Oggetto: [JAWS-Users] jaws and yahoo mail

Hello all, I use outlook for my email at home, but I have another yahoo
email address that I use for other things. When I signed into Yahoo I always
had the classic yahoo mail setting. A week or so ago when I tried to go to
yahoo mail at home here with that other email it didn't work properly. I
can't do anything with it. It looked to somebody who looked at it that it
had updated to the new yahoo mail. I can't get jaws to do much of anything
with it and in reading up on this I am not the only one. I know this will
affect more than jaws users, but that is who we all are on this list. There
seems to be no way to change things to get yourself back to the classic mail
setting. If not, it seems this is an accessibility issue with yahoo that
needs to be addressed. I did not change anything, they did it. What has been
others experiences with yahoo mail? Again, I am using windows 7 and jaws 13.
Thanks in advance. Judy Tallie

[JAWS-Users] JDF file and Irish language.

2013-07-18 Thread Damien O'Connor
Hi everyone.

Does anyone know if the jaws dictionary manager will only allow a certain
number of entries in a jdf file. I'm using jaws 11 and for the last 17
months I've been inputting Irish words and their correct pronunciations into
a jdf file. All of a sudden, the jdf file seems to have stopped accepting
and saving any new entries.

Any thoughts.

Damien.

Hey gang,

I'm using JAWS 14 (Latest build) with a TripleTalk USB under Windows
7 64 bit Home.

I need to know how to stop JAWS from always saying the message
feature only available in virtual document. Whenever I use a
feature in Internet Explorer that requires the Virtual Cursor to be
active. I tried editing the common.jsm file and placing a ; in front
of the statement, saved it, and then recompiled the Internet
Explorer.jss file, but JAWS still keeps speaking the message.

Can someone give me instructions on how to make this happen? Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and yahoo mail

2013-07-18 Thread Scorpio

Hi David,

In some case, this isn't always a choice.

For example, my ISP uses Yahoo servers, as does A T T and SBC Global, all
of which use Yahoo servers for e-mail provision.

This means that these services also have spam folders that need to be
checked every so often.

Granted, the spam feature can be turned off, and all mail can routed through
to the inbox, but unless one stores their mail on the server, and then is
able to surf the site to mark certain messages as spam or not spam, any spam
features your client has is virtually useless, since all it will do is
simply divert any messages it thinks are spam to the deleted items folder or
junk mail folders, and that usually doesn't help at all, since spammers
hardly ever use the same e-mail address twice.

In any case, regardless of whether you want to turn off the spam feature or
not, one still must surf the site in order to turn this setting on or off,
and believe me, that's not so easy to do in this new Yahoo Mail
configuration.

Scorpio, I do not understand how this new Yahoo mail is completely accessible.
Others on this list have also said they are having trouble, so it's not just
me. My problem with all this is that I am an average computer user, and many of
you on this list are much more technically savvy than I will ever be. I do not
want to have to jump through seventeen hoops, stand on my head and do whatever
else just to read my emaiol. Sighted people don't have to go through all these
changes to do so. I couldn't figure out how to get the Yahoo mail to do
absolutely anything. So even with my several years of knowledge with computers

2013-07-18 Thread David Ferrin
My wife can see fairly well and she is a professional database administrator
yet she found the Yahoo page for their new interface less than an enjoyable
experience.

If she were not able to use the mouse on a minimal basis then it wouldn't
work for her either. Never the less I purchased her a subscription as well
to minimize the hassle.

It is interesting that over the past several years web masters have been
placing a never ending amount of useless junk on their pages to make them
look more appealing and now people are reverting back to a more simpler time
with pages that only seem to contain what is needed and very little else.

You can configure your email client of choice for example Outlook 2007 on
this system to receive your Yahoo mail directly in to your inbox.

Then if you want to every now and then visit the page to see what is in your
Spam folder you can but for daily needs you can get your mail the same as if
it were any other email service, GMail, com cast, road runner ETC.

I have been using it for over 3 years already for a secondary account and
eventually it will probably become my main address if at such time I ever go
out of the web site business.

[JAWS-Users] Mouse over

2013-07-18 Thread Joni Colver
I have been using JAWS 13 and just downloaded 14. I have tried everything I
can think of to activate a mouse over link and cannot seem to do it.
Unfortunately, this is a work website that requires a log in so I can't have
anyone look at it for input.

I tried insert Windows key and semicolon. It said something about mouse
over, which I can't remember, and there was an okay button, which did
nothing.

The mouse over element says it is a heading. It is called Departments. I
need to go from there to several other layers to see a policy. The page
says this:

To choose a department, just click on the drop-down box and then on the
department name.

I see no kind of drop down box or anything else that I can work with.

Can anyone give me advice on activating something that says mouse over with
either 13 or 14?

I am using I E 10 if that matters.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Mouse over

2013-07-18 Thread East, Robin
Hi, not sure quite what you are wanting to do but here is info from Freedom...
OnMouseOvers
Keystroke: INSERT+CTRL+ENTER
Information below can be found here:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/training/Surfs-Up/OnMouseOver.htm

Web page authors use OnMouseOvers to display text or images when a visitor
moves the mouse pointer over a particular part of the page. The Freedom
Scientific Product Overview sample page provides an example of a way in which
OnMouseOvers are often used. On this page, when a user moves the mouse pointer
over one of the product names, which are actually graphic links, the page
displays a brief summary of the product. When the user clicks the graphic, the
page takes them to the Freedom Scientific Web site to provide additional
resources.

NOTE: Two different things happen here depending on whether you simply move the
mouse cursor over the graphic or actually activate the link.

JAWS says, OnMouseOver when you move to an element with an OnMouseOver.
OnMouseOver is an attribute that Web page authors add to HTML elements to
enable OnMouseOver functionality.

Open the Freedom Scientific Product Overview sample page. Read through the page
first. It is relatively short. Notice that after the first heading, there are
four OnMouseOver links which JAWS identifies. Continue reading and you will
hear a brief bit of text that begins This page is designed to demonstrate the
use of the OnMouseOver attribute. When a mouse user moves the pointer over the
image links ... Go ahead and read through this text. When you activate an
OnMouseOver in the next series of steps, this text will change on the screen.

Activating an OnMouseOver with JAWS actually moves the mouse cursor over the
graphic for you. You do this by pressing INSERT+CTRL+ENTER when you hear JAWS
announce OnMouseOver links. To see how JAWS interacts with OnMouseOvers on Web
pages, do the following:

Go to the Freedom Scientific Product Overview sample page and press DOWN ARROW
until you move to the one of the graphic links with an OnMouseOver.
Press INSERT+CTRL+ENTER to activate the OnMouseOver for that link.
JAWS announces that the page has changed at a certain line. On the screen, the
brief descriptive text that summarized how to use the page with a mouse is
replaced by text that describes the product.
Press J, type the line number JAWS spoke, and press ENTER. JAWS moves you
directly to the place on the page where the new text is displayed. Using the
Jump To Line command (J) in this manner allows you to read new information that
appears on the page when you activate an OnMouseOver. Take a moment to read
through the new text.
Press SHIFT+J to move back to the graphic link. Holding down SHIFT when using
the Jump To Line command moves you back to your previous location on the page.
Press ENTER to activate the link. This takes you to the Freedom Scientific Web
site. You can press BACKSPACE to return to the previous page.
Try moving to the other OnMouseOver links and following these same steps for
more practice.
JAWS Tip: Notice how pressing ENTER and pressing INSERT+CTRL+ENTER can produce
very different results with some Web page elements. Pressing INSERT+CTRL+ENTER
simulates the effect of moving the mouse pointer over the element, while
pressing ENTER simulates the effect of clicking the element.

Thanks.

Judy Tallie

I even called Best Buy at the Geek Squad for their input and they won't even
deal with it,
Now that is something huh?
I guess we have to try to work around it to the best way we can
Hopefully Yahoo will get get it and change or make it a bit easier for us

Scorpio, I do not understand how this new Yahoo mail is completely
accessible. Others on this list have also said they are having trouble, so
it's not just me. My problem with all this is that I am an average computer
user, and many of you on this list are much more technically savvy than I
will ever be. I do not want to have to jump through seventeen hoops, stand
on my head and do whatever else just to read my emaiol. Sighted people don't
have to go through all these changes to do so. I couldn't figure out how to
get the Yahoo mail to do absolutely anything. So even with my several years
of knowledge with computers and jaws it isn't enough. To me that is too
complicated. Thanks to all for the mobile yahoo site. I tried it and I can
use it just fine. That is weird to me, but I won't question it. (smile)

Hi Judy,

The reason Yahoo doesn't do anything about it is because it is 100%
accessible. The only problem is that people aren't taking the time to learn
it, but from what I can tell, it is completely accessible with Jaws.

Having said that though, you can use their mobile version at the following
link:

http://m.yahoo.com/w/ygo-mail%3B_ylt=A0KjqcaaV.dRJWsANg8p89w4?.intl=CA.lan
g=en-ca

Unfortunately, you're only left with a list of 10 messages you can view at
a time, and you have to enter on the folders link to view the rest of your
folders, such as the drafts, sent items and spam folder, if you have it
activated, but otherwise, it's just as accessible as the other version
you're so used to seeing.

Once you're finished checking the ten showing messages, enter on the older
messages link, and you'll get ten more, and so on until you see all your
messages.

I know, it's a pain in the butt, but there's really no one we can blame for
thise, save for Yahoo themselves, but I don't even think they can be blamed,
since they're giving the majority of people what they asked for.

My wife has nothing but good things to say about the new Yahoo interface,
but she's sighted, and so doesn't experience the same problems we do.

In any case, hope the above information helps you.

Do you have JAWS turned on to indicate OnMouseover links/elements? Did
JAWS say, could not detect any changes, after the 3-in-1 keystroke? Or
did it say nothing, and treat it as an ordinary link? If the latter,
then you may not be doing the keystroke correctly, (thus my NOTE on it:
The JAWSkey [or Insert key] first; then the control and enter keys
together, in the three-in-one.) If possible, find some other OnMouseOver
link, which may be more amenable, on which to practise. If JAWS detects
a change after the onMouseover click, it will say, change detected at
line xx and will (I think) position you on that line or near it.

[JAWS-Users] Dropbox use?

2013-07-18 Thread Rich
Hi all,
I have XP and 14 and Internet Explorer 8.
I've just downloaded Dropbox.
I'm not sure how to use it.
I copied and pasted everything that was in My Documents in to Dropbox.
It took a while.
My assumption is that Dropbox will keep all of these files/folders in the
cloud and I could retrieve them from another computer or if I had a crash in
the future.
I'm not sure how to automatically save all of my e mails on to dropbox.

The Dropbox site had a link to use the most current version of a browser. Is
that necessary?

Also, the computer is working extremely slow now.

Please give advice on these issues.

Thank you so much.
