Hello:

From within the address book, which you may navigate to by pressing CTRL

shift B, activate the file menu with alt f and arrow down to new entry and
press enter.
In the list box, focus on new contact group and tab once to the contacts
combo box and select the folder to which you would like to save your group.
You can press enter or tab to the ok button and spacebar on the ok button.
Next, you are in the contact group dialog. The first field you will have
available is the name field, so type in the name of the new contact group.
Now you must add members to your contact group, which
You can select members from Outlook contacts, the address book, or add email
addresses manually. For the sake of avoiding writers cramp, I will only
explain how to select them by addressbook.
Activate the home ribbon by pressing alt h then press m for the members
list. In the dropdown list, arrow down to addressbook and press enter.
Now, select the members, as many as you'd like. Keep in mind that you will
land in a search field first, so tab to the extended list and arrow until
you find who you are looking for and press enter and that person will be
added to the contact group. Just repeat this process until you have
everyone that you'd like to be in the group. Once you are complete, press
alt s to save it.
I hope this helps.

with jaws, not telling how many unread messages there are in each folder
when cybling through them, the auto fill not reading when your typing the
first few letters of a frequently emailed address, and not to mention in
word, and excel, when changing options, you have to read current line when

[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2013-09-08 Thread Moderator
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with
scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know
works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or
want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how
new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be
there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck
then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current
dilemma.
Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if
there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with
JAWS
is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest
you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted
to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment
but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 550
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that
are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you
will
find the group web address along with some other relevant information
pertaining to contacting the management team ETC.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your
account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and
follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after
receiving
a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be
a member of the list and remove your email address.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech
swap shop
or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off
topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should
only
post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be
short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules
to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do
not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at
the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and
every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly
please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help
dying
kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article
or message of interest which relates to the

nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it
will be posted to the list. Additionally

Well running vista 32, IE8 and jaws 14 latest and de sided to try that site,
http://blindbaseball.org
The page opened and gave its title then jaws went silent. I could tab
to other windows that spoke, but that window was silent every time. I
tried to close it and jaws locked up for all. Opened up narrator and
did a shut down. No good, jaws was keeping the system up and now
locked the keyboard. So its a hard shut down. The interesting thing
when I do a normal start jaws takes about 3 to 5 minutes to come up
talking. However, when narrator started up after windows start sound
so did jaws. Now that proves to me that the jaws lag on start has
nothing to do with anything starting, but with jaws. I did that
little trick 3 times to see if no instant start for jaws and it
followed narrator like a good puppy every time. Aren't long term bugs nice?

Yeah, Tim, Thanks for confirming that second oddity too. On my machine,
Windows boots up to the desktop and it takes another two minutes for Jaws to
come up. If I take Jaws out of the startup and put a competitive
screen-reader or Narrator in, it comes up about fifteen seconds after the
windows sound.

This problem has come up on the list in the past. Unfortunately, my aging

the Word default template. Maybe someone is willing to dig back through the

find it.

MSE is alright and there is nothing great about it, that's why it's free.
When Bill Gate makes you buy it it will work much better..

Hi Cher,

I have MSSE installed on all of our computers & we are very happy with the
job it does. For example, if we attempt to download & MSSE notices
something peculiar about it ,it stops the download & scans it before
downloading it. Depending on which computer we have we also run
SuperAntiSpyware or Malware Bytes but, not at the same time but, we'll run a

full scan with 1 of these independently to catch something that either MSSE
is not made to catch or something that MSSE might have missed. We run SAS
or Malware Bytes on a schedule scan just like we run MSSE on a scheduled
scan but, they don't run at the same time. They run independently of each
other so there is no conflict. We have tried AVG & Avast in the past but,
they became too much of a hassle to navigate with Jaws, where MSSE can be
navigated quite easily with Jaws. Well, this is my 1 and a half cents worth

& I'm sticking to it! LOL LOL

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I am getting error coad 0x80070648 when trying toinstall MSE.

2013-09-08 Thread Scorpio

Hi Mich,

I found a large number of resources doing a Google search.

I've listed the basic steps to trouble shoot the problem below given the
search results and their accompanying suggestions.

I've also pasted a link to one of the search results that indicates that
this may be an issue with not having a genuine Windows issue, so make sure
you're not running a pirated version of Windows, as this can happen if you
purchase a computer from a less than reputable shop. I'm not saying that's
the issue you're facing, just mentioning one of the possibilities listed.

In any case, here is the checklist, and the link I was referring to:

Verify that you have removed/uninstalled all other real-time antimalware
products that were ever installed on your PC, including free/trial products
that
were installed when the PC was purchased (Norton, Symantec, McAfee, TM,
AVG, Avast, Avira, Malwarebytes (paid), etc).

Then, use the cleanup tools here:
List of anti-malware program cleanup/uninstall tools
If yours is not listed, go to the manufacturer and get it.

Verify that your PC clock is correctly set (date, time, time zone). If not,
correct it.

Verify that Windows Defender is uninstalled (if XP), or Disabled (if
Vista/W7).

Verify that you are up-to-date with SERVICE PACKS and updates (including
.NET and IE). Yes, it can take some time to do this.

Verify that the Windows Firewall is on, and set to defaults.

Remove Zone Alarm if you have it and use the Windows Firewall.

Verify that you are not using a proxy server.

In IE, reset all security zones to default level.

Then, restart your PC.

You may need to remove and reinstall MSE as well. If so, you can use the
procedure(s) here to uninstall MSE:

Uninstalling MSE.

Then, use IE or Firefox, and go to
www.microsoft.com/security_essentials
and click DOWNLOAD. Do not navigate and download via TOOLBARS.

I didn't understand your remark on Norton?

Norton is not jaws friendly, it actually sucks...

Thanks everyone for the votes of confidence. BitDefender has great ratings
and has worked very well for me for a number of years- but I'm ready to have
something I can totally access without sighted assistance. Totally agree
about Norton, Marilyn!

I have tried Avg and Avast. Don't like either of them so went to MSE. It
works fine. Be aware if you tell it to do a full scan it may take a
while. It takes considerably longer than Avg or Avast, but the quick
scan is pretty good. I also use Malware Bytes Antimalware. You do have
to use the mouse to switch between tabs. In MSE, you don't need to use
the mouse at all. Hope this helps.

2013-09-08 Thread Michael Capelle
Hi Jorge,

Well, AVG must have changed their interface back to being accessible with
Jaws because I stopped, along with many others, to MSSE after AVG became
inaccessible. I also run Malware Bytes & Super Antispyware as secondary
scanning programs & I'm very happy with our results. When I turn 100 years
old I'll let you know if AVG can be used! LOL LOL
Take care.

Hi Mike,
MSE is alright and there is nothing great about it, that's why it's free.
When Bill Gate makes you buy it it will work much better..

I run Mywarebytes Pro and that seems to always pick up something.

And AVG is so simple to use that a 100 year old guy can run it, LOL!!!

Later Bro.

LOL LOL

Take care.

MSE works just fine for me and has for years. I hated Norton and AVG plus a
couple of others I tried over the past 15 years. Norton is a gift horse
that has to be bundled with new computers to get any business. Avoid!

Re: [JAWS-Users] ms word 2010

2013-09-08 Thread Michael Capelle
Hi Angelina,

Try the following:

While in Word, if you go to Tools, Options, Advanced tab there is a checkbox
that you can uncheck, prompt before saving normal template. If you uncheck
this checkbox, any changes to the normal template will be saved
automatically without bringing up that dialogue. While on the Advance Tab,
Alt + O, is the keystroke that will get you there more quickly. Note: you
may have to invoke the Alt + O keystroke more than once to get you there.
Then, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save your changes & close options.
HTH

Take care.

I just hope they fix the outlook issues. Not being able to edit signatures
with jaws, not telling how many unread messages there are in each folder
when cybling through them, the auto fill not reading when your typing the
first few letters of a frequently emailed address, and not to mention in
word, and excel, when changing options, you have to read current line when
tabbing through in order to know what the option is. These are big deals to
me. I paid to much for this license, for these things not to work. JMO

[JAWS-Users] Can not find the drive with new devices.

2013-09-08 Thread Rich Hamel
Hi all
I hope the subject line is accurate.
I have XP pro and 14.0.
I am unable to find devices I plug in to my USB port .
I go to "my computer" and I see a list that includes "C" drive and CD, etc.
but , not, the new device I plug in to the front of the PC through a USB port.
There is a USB hub.
When I go in to control panel and add new hardware, I see a bunch of USB items
with useless labels.

I've looked through the items in the "C" drive but nothing looks like the device

The software has been installed, and I hear the "ding" when I plug the
different devices in.
I assume that whenever a device is plugged in to the USB, I would see it listed
as "F" drive or something like that, in "my computer".

I don't see anything listed when I hit insert F 10 or 11 either.
Thanks for any help.

I don't have this problem on my other PC that is XP home.

The keys control + alt + delete only brings up
the lock screen and change logged in user.
You want to look in the task tray and see if nero
is running and see if you can close it. Then go
to programs and features or add/remove and see if
there is any nero listed there. Try to remove it
there before deleting it from the program files.
Deleting from that folder will cause you problems
if not done from add/remove or programs and
features. The reason it won't let you delete it is because it is still running.

You should try removing sweetupdater its part of
firefox it keeps track up updates for firefox.
That bug not only wanted to install more spy crap
but when removing asked for the number in the
graphic. i showed it who was boss of this box and
plucked it from the registry and then from its
nest on the program files. If firefox wants a
update for something it can nag about it!

drive listed.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can not find the drive with new devices.

2013-09-08 Thread Shai
Hi,
Try doing a windows e and after you have reached the c drive doing a left or
a right arrow to try and find those devices. Perhaps you have a view enabled
that does not list the devices in a list.
If you still can not locate those devices perhaps try disconnecting any USB
hub you may be using and plug the device directly into the USB port. If you
can still not see the device, you may need to use software to access the
device and not windows itself.
Hope that helps

It may not be F could be another letter. Unplug the drive and see
what is listed. Then plug back in and see if any thing new shows. I
have one external that shows up as extension drive and it can have
any drive letter windows assigns it.

Hi,
Try doing a windows e and after you have reached the c drive doing a left or
a right arrow to try and find those devices.

Hi Angelina,

Try the following:

While in Word, if you go to Tools, Options, Advanced tab there is a checkbox
that you can uncheck, prompt before saving normal template. If you uncheck
this checkbox, any changes to the normal template will be saved
automatically without bringing up that dialogue. While on the Advance Tab,
Alt + O, is the keystroke that will get you there more quickly. Note: you
may have to invoke the Alt + O keystroke more than once to get you there.
Then, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save your changes & close options.
HTH

Take care.

Hi,
Even if you delete a program out of the add & remove; some programs leave a
foot print in the programs files in the C drive.

I just removed a roxio folder by pressing the delete key only to test myself..

But,that command worked for me, Control + Shift + delete, if the delete key
didn't work in removing a left over foot print in the program files in the past
in XP, after trying the delete key first.
I wished Roxio didn't delete and I would have tried this command.

Later.

The keys control + alt + delete only brings up
the lock screen and change logged in user.
You want to look in the task tray and see if nero
is running and see if you can close it. Then go
to programs and features or add/remove and see if
there is any nero listed there. Try to remove it
there before deleting it from the program files.
Deleting from that folder will cause you problems
if not done from add/remove or programs and
features. The reason it won't let you delete it is because it is still
running.

field is to name your distribution list, tab once, you will be in a list of
your contacts, press spacebar on all of the contacts you want to be in the

Now you must add members to your contact group, which You can select members
from Outlook contacts, the address book, or add email addresses manually.
For the sake of avoiding writers cramp, I will only explain how to select
them by addressbook.

Hi all
I hope the subject line is accurate.
I have XP pro and 14.0.
I am unable to find devices I plug in to my USB port .
I go to "my computer" and I see a list that includes "C" drive and CD,
etc.
but , not, the new device I plug in to the front of the PC through a USB
port.
There is a USB hub.
When I go in to control panel and add new hardware, I see a bunch of
USB

items with useless labels.

I've looked through the items in the "C" drive but nothing looks like
the

device

The software has been installed, and I hear the "ding" when I plug the
different devices in.
I assume that whenever a device is plugged in to the USB, I would see it
listed as "F" drive or something like that, in "my computer".

I don't see anything listed when I hit insert F 10 or 11 either.
Thanks for any help.

I don't have this problem on my other PC that is XP home.

If you still can not locate those devices perhaps try disconnecting any

Nothing has changed for a long time. No doubt once the beta is installed
then future updates along with the full version will come down using check
for updates, but not before.

no.

David.
Sorry, but for the past couple of years, I do recall that the beta shows
in JAWS updates when it is available, if you have the current full JAWS
version installed.

I just keep hoping they can fix some of the bugs that seem to keep being
carried forward. I can go to certain websites and Jaws locks "application
file for Jaws has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

I almost wish they could make a separate version for corrent OS and a
different one for Win 8. I prefer Eloquence for its rapid speech so I
don't
get overly excited about the new expressive Vocalizer, although it does
sound better; and my Windows 8 computer doesn't have touch screen
capability
since I upgraded two-year-old laptop.

Hi all

I'm looking for a free sound recorder which is jaws friendly and very simply
to use. But it must be accessible and able to record in .wav.

Something like the windows sound recorder but able to record in .wav.

Can someone help here?
