Hi, yesterday and today when my computer is on I have a Norton security
dialog going on and I cannot get rid of it. It won't read me anything that
is on the page. The jaws help key, insert f1, says there are dialog boxes
but I can't get it to read anything on the page. I tried the jaws cursor to
no avail. Any thoughts? Judy & Tallie

Reparing jfw in this case, will not work, as he stated, he reinstalled jfw,
in this, i would recommend a system restore point from a previous day.

i dont think nav is the cause, as nav usually does not lock systems.

When I try to open a file in MS Word, Excell and Word Pad, I key in the
commands, find the file, and enter on it.

At that point JAWS stops speaking, and the computer hangs up.

This does not happen when we turn Jaws off.

I can open the files from File Explorer.

This configuration was working fine until Wednesday this week, and then
the

problem started.

I am using JAWS 14, Windows 7, and Office 2007.

Here is what I have done.

I uninstalled JAWS 14, and reinstalled it by download from the Freedom
Scientific website.

I have uninstalled a trial version of Norton, to make sure I am running
only

one antivirus program -- Microsoft Security Essentials.

I have run msconfig and disabled everything on start up, except for my
Drop

Box.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Tom

How to Keep Microsoft Security Essentials from Slowing Down Your System

Updated 19. September 2011 - 6:33 by v.laurie

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is Gizmo's Freeware Product of the
Year
for 2010. Recently, a new version came out and it has a setting that can
be

very useful to owners of older, slower PCs or netbooks.

Even when an efficient antivirus program does a scan, it can use enough
system resources to cause a noticeable slowdown of older machines. Version
2

of MSE has a setting that can cut down the impact that a scan has on the
system. The amount of CPU time allocated to the scan can be limited. While
it won't make much difference in a new quad-core machine, it can keep an
old
single-core system or a netbook from bogging down and allow you to
continue

to work during a scan.

There is a tradeoff-using less CPU time means taking longer to finish a
scan.

To configure the settings, open MSE and select the "Settings" tab. As the
figure below shows, you can adjust the amount of CPU time devoted to a
scan

in a drop-down menu. The default setting seems to be 50%. If limiting the
CPU is not important in your particular system, remove the check by "Limit
CPU usage during scan". That will speed up your scans.

By experimenting with this CPU setting, you should be able to find one
that

is best for your particular system.

When I try to open a file in MS Word, Excell and Word Pad, I key in the
commands, find the file, and enter on it.

At that point JAWS stops speaking, and the computer hangs up.

This does not happen when we turn Jaws off.

I can open the files from File Explorer.

This configuration was working fine until Wednesday this week, and then the
problem started.

I am using JAWS 14, Windows 7, and Office 2007.

Here is what I have done.

I uninstalled JAWS 14, and reinstalled it by download from the Freedom
Scientific website.

I have uninstalled a trial version of Norton, to make sure I am running only
one antivirus program -- Microsoft Security Essentials.

I have run msconfig and disabled everything on start up, except for my Drop
Box.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

delete it from the attachment field which, in my version, is just

Hi Jorge,

I do not use Outlook 2007 but, here is a note I've saved in case I do in the

future:

In Outlook 2007 do the following to have the BCC field showing in Email
messages you create:

1. Start a new message.
2. Press the Alt key to move focus to the ribbon.
3. Use right arrow key until you find the Options tab.
4. Press the tab key repeatedly until you find the Show BCC choice.
5. When you find the Show BCC option press enter key to activate it.
The BCC field should continue to be present in new messages you create.
6. Once the BCC field is showing you can hear its contents by pressing Alt
key with the number 6 (that is the number 6 located above the Y). Holding
down the Alt key and quickly pressing the number 6 twice will bring the
keyboard focus to the BCC field.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Attachments and forwarding in Windows Mail?

Can anyone tell me the keystrokes for bringing up the attachment and for
forwarding an email in Windows Live Mail? I am using Jaws 14 or 15 on a
Windows7 computer.

Thank you very much in advance!

Vicky

Hi Nicole,
To show/hide file extensions in file explorer:
1. press alt to move to the name of the active tab in the ribbon.
2. press right arrow until you get to the name of the view tab.
3. press tab to move through the controls on the view tab until you get to the
file name extensions check box.
4. set as desired.

More info about File Explorer in Windows 8 can be found in this guide for jaws

Last night, I checked a bocx to announce the file types. Now I'd like to
uncheck it, and can't find it.
Can anyone help? It's not coming up in search.
