Hit alt+h, then go up to about internet explorer and hit enter. It will
tell you which version of IE you are running.

[JAWS-Users] Windows Live Mail

2013-12-05 Thread DGCNC
I am running Windows 7, Jaws 15 latest release and Windows Live Mail. Recently,
when I press Alt to enter the menus or Ribbon, it now says “blank” and none of
my keystrokes I normally would use work. Everything looks normal on the screen
according to a sighted person. Has anybody else experienced this? Is there a
fix? Did I miss some new way of operating in Windows 15?

Re: [JAWS-Users] what is the key combination to turn speech on and offwith jaws.

2013-12-05 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi Sugar. That combination is the default hotkey combination for
re-launching Jaws. I use that on Jaws 14 but as I use Jaws 15 mainly now I
can't use the same combination, I now use Control/shift and J. When it
comes to temporarly stopping speach such as when the phone goes or someone
talks to you or you want to listen to some music and don't want your screen
reader to start chattering right in the middle then you can just mute the
synthe and that saves the hassle of closing down Jaws and then the same when
launching it. As I said, I use the Screenshot key for this purpose as it is
a key I never use so when the phone goes or I want to listen to some music I
just hit that key and it says speech off and then speech on. If you
already know this then sorry for being a pain. Walter.

Walter.

Jim,

As Janie pointed out correctly, in order to Toggle the synthesizer to mute in
order to silence JAWS speech, use the following command:
Press JAWS key + SpaceBar, and then the letter S by itself.
Where the JAWS key is INSERT while in JAWS Desktop Keyboard Layout or when in
JAWS Laptop Keyboard Layout, you can use either CapsLock or INSERT for the JAWS
key.

2013-12-05 Thread Teresa Arroyo

Hello,
I too had that problem, except that Jaws said ribbons, but there were none.
Does this occur in other applications such as Word? It did to me.
So, Being in WLM I went to the Jaws quick settings insert + v and unchecked
the virtual ribbons. Yes, and it worked. I did the same in Word where the
problem existed as well.
My idea is that perhaps because the virtual ribbons were checked in Jaws 14
you have to uncheck int in 15. I found that this unchecking also worked in
other situations, like in Jaws starting automaticaly when loged on.

I hope this helps.

I find that when certain keystrokes don't work in WLM I Use the alt spacebar
and then x to maximize the page and things work again most of the time.
Don't know why the window does not stay maximized.
The biggest change I have noticed with Jaws 15 and WLM is that the labeled
graphics like attachment, expanded, etc. don't work. I am unable to label
them in Jaws 15 because I can't navigate to the graphics anymore. I have
tried many various ways, Jaws cursor, mouse cursor, virtual cursor off, and
everything else I could think of but could not navigate to the graphics to
label them.

So now I have just memorized the numbers.
656 is unread
294 is read
249 is collapsed
304 is expanded
160 is attachment
661 is also some kind of attachment, I think
I have deduced these from much trial and error.

I did not update the settings from Jaws 14 because I had 14 screwed up with
a different voice for the say all and the spell rate was way too fast so I
just like the basic defaults in the Jaws 15. Guess I am set in my ways but
I like my old Jaws buddy's voice. We have spent over 11 years together and I
like him.

[JAWS-Users] Changing keyboard configuration-re:IE 11

2013-12-05 Thread John R Vaughn
Maria, In the jaws basic menus, do you have the keyboard set to laptop or
desktop? Try changing from keyboard to laptop and that might solve the
problem. Since i use one of my laptops without a keyboard and the other
laptop with a keyboard, I found it less confusing to have both keyboards set
to laptop.
Alt J for jaws interface
O for options
B for basic and then tab to keyboard and down arrow to laptop and press
enter.
If it is already set to laptop, then try changing the keyboard to desktop.
One or the other may work.
If not, I do not have another suggestion.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to go back to the previous page?

Have you tried going to a different version of jaws first as an
example if you have jaws 11, you should be able to go to the page
then go and check to see whether the check mark shows if this check
mark shows, then you should have no problem but if there is no check

a work around for this situation? Please let me know what happens!

installed successfully. I didn't try tabbing to those buttons as Ryan

Oops, sorry, I meant the Context menu key, which is between the right
Windows key and the right Control key on most full-size keyboards. If your
keyboard lacks a Context menu key, you can launchthe the context menu by
pressing Shift-F10. Back should be the first option on the list. Just hit
Enter on it, and you should be returned to the previous page.

Jim,

As Janie pointed out correctly, in order to Toggle the synthesizer to mute in
order
to silence JAWS speech, use the following command:
Press JAWS key + SpaceBar, and then the letter S by itself.
Where the JAWS key is INSERT while in JAWS Desktop Keyboard Layout or when in

close the current window/tab and return you to your previous page.
However, it may sometimes close your browser entirely.)

2013-12-05 Thread Flor Lynch
In the case where they are not explicitly announced, you may hear, for
instance, 'button' and, tabbing again, 'q button'. (The unlabelled
button would then be the Accept button, while the 'q' button would be
the Quit button, which cancels the operation.) Similarly for any of the
other buttons in the installation dialogue, of which 'i button' means
the Install' button. (Normally at each stage you have a choice of two
buttons.)

Hello,

If you use screen‑reader software, are blind, are at least 18 years of age, and
if you have an interest in helping to improve the quality and consistency in
text-based descriptions for the blind (such as alt-text/long descriptions), I
would very much like to include your opinions in my dissertation study. My
study focuses on improving text-based descriptions for the blind. The survey
consists of 12 questions and is designed to be completed in less than 15
minutes. It has also been tested to ensure screen‑reader compatibility and
keyboard-based navigation.

The survey can be completed anonymously, and you will not receive any follow-up
contact from me—or anyone—about the survey or your responses. However, for
those who indicate that it is okay to do so via their survey responses, please
note that I am planning to conduct follow-up one-on-one interviews (30 to 60
minutes) and a group teleconference about improving text-based descriptions (60
to 90 minutes). If you have an interest in participating in that conference
call, please be sure to provide contact information where requested in the
survey. Compensation in the amount of $15.00 will be provided in the form of an
Amazon gift card (or other like retailer) to those who participate in the
individual interview. Due to technical limitations, not everyone can be invited
to participate in the group teleconference. For those who do participate in the
teleconference, additional compensation of $25.00 will be offered through gift
card.
If you have any questions about the survey, its aim and potential use, or my
dissertation, please contact me. Your participation is completely voluntary and
all information gathered will be used exclusively for my research. This survey

Hello,

If you use screen‑reader software, are blind, are at least 18 years of age,
and if you have an interest in helping to improve the quality and
consistency in text-based descriptions for the blind (such as alt-text/long
descriptions), I would very much like to include your opinions in my
dissertation study. My study focuses on improving text-based descriptions
for the blind. The survey consists of 12 questions and is designed to be
completed in less than 15 minutes. It has also been tested to ensure
screen‑reader compatibility and keyboard-based navigation.

The survey can be completed anonymously, and you will not receive any
follow-up contact from me—or anyone—about the survey or your responses.
However, for those who indicate that it is okay to do so via their survey
responses, please note that I am planning to conduct follow-up one-on-one
interviews (30 to 60 minutes) and a group teleconference about improving
text-based descriptions (60 to 90 minutes). If you have an interest in
participating in that conference call, please be sure to provide contact
information where requested in the survey. Compensation in the amount of
$15.00 will be provided in the form of an Amazon gift card (or other like
retailer) to those who participate in the individual interview. Due to
technical limitations, not everyone can be invited to participate in the
group teleconference. For those who do participate in the teleconference,
additional compensation of $25.00 will be offered through gift card.
If you have any questions about the survey, its aim and potential use, or my
dissertation, please contact me. Your participation is completely voluntary
and all information gathered will be used exclusively for my research. This
survey has been approved by the TTU Institutional Review Board.
Please feel free to forward this survey link onward to other individuals you
think might have an interest in participating.

I installed Jaws 15 on this laptop and had already removed about six
versions from 7 to 12 off before, I don't have a lot of old versions
available and as this is an older laptop downloading will take time. It
should work in 15 just as it does in 9 or 11... I know the laptop flash is
out of date but it will stay that way for now.

Trish, just install Adobe Flash Player from the following page and be sure
to uncheck the box for installing Google Chrome and Tool Bar, which is
checked by default. This should install Flash Player for IE without any
unwanted software. However, if you use this same page to download and
install Flash Player for Firefox, you will automatically install a little
utility called McAfee Security Scan Plus. There is no way to deselect
 this
program when you install Flash Player for Firefox, so if you don't want it
on your computer, you will have to uninstall it manually. Actually, I
 find
it to be a very useful tool for performing quick malware scans, so I left
 it
 on my computer.

Use the letter g to navigate to the graphic's that attend to the Adobe

Be aware of the install of additional toolbar's and software.

The install progress has changed, so it can be a bit frustrating to

I really object to installing and uninstalling. I had multiple problems
after Chrome was installed on my dead computer, took me a lot of work to fix
several issues. This box should be accessible and we all should be able to
do it, regardless of the jaws or IE version used.
It will have to wait until I get a pair of eyes, and that may be a while.
