Re: [JAWS-Users] DVD copy

2014-04-01 Thread Michael Boyd

You really should try Ashampoo Burning Studio Free. The name is a little
misleading, but you can both burn and rip CD's and DVD's. It can
be found at http://www.ashampoo.com, and it is totally accessible and free.
Some of the commands are not completely obvious at first, but I would be
glad to help you with them, so feel free to contact me with any questions. I
use it on my Windows 8.1 pc with JAWS 15, but it will work on your system as
well. Once you get the hang of using it, it will be a breeze, and it beats
paying for Roxio or Nero, or some other expensive software that does the
same thing. Good luck.

2014-04-01 Thread Shane Hecker
Lets put it this way. I can burn cds as well as dvds. If you want to
make an ISO image that's easy enough to do. No mouse is needed to do
those functions. The blueray player it comes with has keyboard shortcuts
for most items, but since I don't have bluerays, I haven't been able to
test that. I primarily use burnin rom.

If you are talking about software, I use Nero 2014. Nero Burnin Rom
works nicely. If you're talking about hardware, that doesn't matter too
much. The software is the primary concern when it comes to
accessibility. Having said that, over all, I've had good experience with
Plextor and Liteon dvd burners.

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to be safe when shopping on line

2014-04-01 Thread Michael Boyd

Hi Kathy,

Most web sites provide some sort of protection for you to keep your
personal information from getting into the hands of criminals. Always look
for the blurb stating that the site uses an SSl protection (Secured Socket
Layered Protection). , and also check the web sites certificates. They are
supposed to have certificates that you can access through their web site,
showing that they have the proper protection in place. If the certificates
are not up to date, then I would be leary about using that particular site.
Stay on sites like Amazon, Ebay, New Egg, and other reputable sites like the
major stores that you shop at at your local mall. These are reputable sites,
and the chances of getting hacked on them is relatively low. I have been
shopping online for years now, and I, luckily have never had trouble because
of it. Besides, you won't beat the prices on Amazon, Ebay, or New Egg , and
all the major store sites do charge sales tax and shipping online.

[JAWS-Users] monthly guidelines

2014-04-01 Thread David Ferrin
About JAWS-Users-List
English (USA)

Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain
task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal
place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no
matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the
confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the
list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that
help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last
than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then
let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma.
Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if
there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with
JAWS is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I
suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are
over 660 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on
here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your
account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and
follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after
receiving a number of such messages then the Mailman program will remove
your email address automatically.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech
swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or
services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given
subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the
subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and
members should only post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be
short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules
to go by the to: field often times such rules get fouled up and in effect do
not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at
the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and
every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly
please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help
dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article
or message of interest which relates to the

Nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it
will be posted to the list. Additionally if you

want to make an announcement about another list send it to the list owner
for consideration. Do not post it to the list before obtaining approval.

2014-04-01 Thread Siobhan
Hi Kathy: here are a few common sense tips for not just you but us all. First,
know the site you want to shop from. I use amazon a lot, but i've shopped
extensively online for years. Second, with a new site, look for things such as
this site is protected from hackers, over 99% protection, or something I can't
quite remember the wording. From a screen reader standpoint, when you're ready
to submit things like your credit card, always look for the address to start
with http://s this means that your information is encrypted. If you're still
cautious, you can always call the customer service number, and explain you'd
like to shop online but are a bit wary of doing so. Hope I helped somewhat.

Hi

To hide the reading pane, while you're in a folder, press alt+v for the view
ribbon. Then, if you're using the JAWS virtual ribbons, arrow down to the
layout group and right arrow and arrow down to reading pane and press space.
If you're not using the JAWS virtual ribbons, tab to layout pane. Arrow
down to off and press enter. I can't tell you how to tab immediately to the
navigation pane. But when I want the list of folders, I just press
control+y. I personally like the JAWS virtual ribbons.

1. How do you hide the reading pane?
2. Can you set it so when I tab from the messages list the first column I

3. Have people found the regular Outlook virtual ribbon menus to work or are

[JAWS-Users] FS Clipboard / Appending To Clipboard

2014-04-01 Thread Mike B.
Hi all,

I got this from the Jaws help files:

Using FSClipboard
FSClipboard extends the functionality of the Windows Clipboard. When you use
the Windows Copy (CTRL+C) or Cut (CTRL+X) commands to place text on the
Clipboard, it replaces any text already there. When using the FSClipboard
feature, text that you copy is added to any text that you have previously
copied to the Clipboard. This allows you to continue adding text to the
Clipboard until you are ready to paste it into a document. You can only copy
text with the FSClipboard feature.

To add text to the Clipboard, select it using the text selection commands,
and then press WINDOWS Key+C. The text is appended to the end of any text
already on the Clipboard. To paste all the text that you have placed on the
Clipboard so far, use the Windows Paste command (CTRL+V). The text is
inserted into your document at the current location of the cursor. Each
block of text that you copied is separated by a blank line.

Note: If you attempt to add the same selection of text to the Clipboard more
than once, the text is not added. This feature is intended to reduce
unintentional duplication.

All formatting is removed from text that you copy using the FSClipboard
feature. This can be useful in programs like Microsoft Word if you do not
want to include styles, numbering, and other formatting information when you
paste text into a document.

If you want to replace all of the text on the Clipboard with a new text
selection, use CTRL+C or CTRL+X instead of WINDOWS Key+C. JAWS asks if you
want to overwrite your previously saved items. Choose Yes to replace all the
text on the Clipboard with the new selection.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Enabling MSAA mode

2014-04-01 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Don,

Switching between MSAA modes when using JAWS is application-specific. Start
in the application where you want to use it. Press JAWS key with function
key 6 to launch the settings center. Type MSAA in the search box and then
use down arrow key to the second of two items, which deals with the MSAA
mode. Press spacebar until the enhanced setting is selected. Use the Apply
button and then the OK button. If you get double echoing of text then you
might need to adjust the screen echo. Here is some informational text from
the window where you change MSAA modes:

Use this combo box to select one of the following MSAA modes: Automatic,
Enhanced, or Classic. Select Automatic to use MSAA when it is appropriate
for such menus. Normally you do not need to change to the Enhanced setting.
If you know this application is MSAA enabled, changing this setting to
Enhanced may give better results. This setting in combination with the
Screen Echo setting of highlighted text may provide too much speech (double
echo). If so, change the Screen Echo setting in the User Options dialog to
Echo no Text. Using this setting will not allow Window Class assignments
to take effect as defined in the Window Classes dialog. Classic is known as
JAWS Legacy MSAA handling. This setting in combination with the Screen Echo
setting of highlighted text may provide too much speech (double echo). If
so, change the Screen Echo setting in the User Options dialog to Echo no
Text. Using this setting will not allow Window Class assignments to take
effect as defined in the Window Classes dialog. This option is only
available for specific applications and cannot be set for Default/All
Applications.

I use the hell out of this feature, especially when copying various notes

Brilliant, Mike. I've used JAWS for 14 years and never used the fs
clipboard feature. FS clipboard seems like an efficient way to save
what one wants to highlight from documents.

 Hi all,

I got this from the Jaws help files:

 Using FSClipboard
FSClipboard extends the functionality of the Windows Clipboard. When you
 use
the Windows Copy (CTRL+C) or Cut (CTRL+X) commands to place text on the
Clipboard, it replaces any text already there. When using the FSClipboard
feature, text that you copy is added to any text that you have previously
copied to the Clipboard. This allows you to continue adding text to the
Clipboard until you are ready to paste it into a document. You can only
 copy
 text with the FSClipboard feature.

To add text to the Clipboard, select it using the text selection commands,
and then press WINDOWS Key+C. The text is appended to the end of any text
already on the Clipboard. To paste all the text that you have placed on
 the
Clipboard so far, use the Windows Paste command (CTRL+V). The text is
inserted into your document at the current location of the cursor. Each
block of text that you copied is separated by a blank line.

Note: If you attempt to add the same selection of text to the Clipboard
 more
than once, the text is not added. This feature is intended to reduce
 unintentional duplication.

All formatting is removed from text that you copy using the FSClipboard
feature. This can be useful in programs like Microsoft Word if you do not
want to include styles, numbering, and other formatting information when
 you
 paste text into a document.

If you want to replace all of the text on the Clipboard with a new text
selection, use CTRL+C or CTRL+X instead of WINDOWS Key+C. JAWS asks if you
want to overwrite your previously saved items. Choose Yes to replace all
 the
text on the Clipboard with the new selection.

 Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question on anti virus

2014-04-01 Thread Richard Hamel

Hi Kathy,
It is my understanding that I D protection is different than anti virus
protection.
Anti Virus protects issues on a computer, where as an I D Protection
service protects against identity issues such as getting personal
information like Social Security numbers, bank accounts credit card and
other items outside of the computer.
I have 2 computers one had the free MSE and it got some malware. So, I
switched to a professional anti virus Quick Heel on that computer.

Hope that helps.

You are on the right track, but somethings you cannot add remove.
I had a problem one time removing blank lines and a symbol that didn't
want to go away.
Anyways, I ended up doing it the old fashion way.
It's a MS thing, I think...
Try typing in the tab key or 5 spaces, which equals one tab.
