Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and braille display not communicating (urgent)!
Yep, this is one of my assumptions that Pronto's firmware is may be too old, if it communicated on XP but not on 7. However, if a new firmware is not freely available for our language, than he will probably either need to download english firmware or contact our local Baum distributor. Hi everyone, I'm a new member on this list, and I'm speaking in the name of a person who is using braille display with JAWS at his workplace. The situation is serious and any feedback is urgent, so please try to help as much as You can. He's using Windows 7 64-bit, JAWS 15, and Baum Pronto 40 braille display/notetaker. The problem is, Braille Display is not detected even when drivers are installed for both display and JAWS! It also doesn't work with other screen readers. Here's what I've tried so far and it didn't work: 1. I've downloaded official drivers from baum's website. 2. I've connected braille display into the computer and I switched from notetaker to computer mode. 3. In addition to the official Baum drivers, I've also tried all built-in JAWS Baum drivers, and none of them worked. The problem is that even no errors were displayed. 4. I downgraded to JAWS 14, and still not working. 5. I've tried bluetooth connection instead of USB. Paring was successfull, but display wasn't detected by JAWS. 6. The display even wasn't detected by other screen readers, but according to Windows, the driver is installed correctly. So, what can be the problem? May be 64-bit Windows incompatible with Baum Pronto, or Pronto's firmware to old. The Baum manual says that the JAWS version must be 10 or greater, and it certainly is. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and braille display not communicating (urgent)!
Thank you, but this is what I tried already, and it didn't work. I also tried with different ports, but the display is simply not detected. I even think that the problem is with Baum driver for Windows, rather than JAWS driver, since it will also not work with any other screen reader such as NVDA as well. Just the note that the Baum Pronto's driver instructions are quite poor. It seams they are not updated for a long time, since they still mention JAWS 10 and Windows XP. Try downloading JAWS 16 Beta and in the initial set up set up the braille display. I suspect the driver must be clobbered for some reason or there is some weird conflict. It could be that a generic window driver has over ridden the braill driver. robin robin -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Hrvoje Katic Sent: October 6, 2014 11:08 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and braille display not communicating (urgent)! Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and braille display not communicating (urgent)!
Hello, There are only a couple other things I can think of that you might try. Have you tried installing the driver in compatibility mode? This can be done by going into the contextual menu of the installation file to the compatibility tab and making choices. If you try that it might be a good idea to remove the device from the JAWS list first so that you don't have multiple entries. After installing and if it works try adding it again in JAWS and restarting JAWS or even the system. You might consider contacting a tech support rep with Baum. I had a problem with installing a HIMS display with the driver made available on their web site but a technician had a driver he sent me that worked well.
