Hello Jason,

I am not sure of the version of JAWS you are using but I am using JAWS 16
latest build and I can use tab and shift+tab in the Manage Sources dialog
box. You might try using the following shortcut keys for the various
controls in this dialog box:

Alt+N New entry. This will present a dialog where you can pick the type
Alt+of
reference and fill in properties such as title, author, etc.

Alt+S Search box. Gives a search box for searching the master list.

Alt+s followed by tab moves to a combo box for choosing how the list is
sorted. Use up or down arrow key. The top of the list is author. If you
arrow down and JAWS doesn't speak the change in the combo box you can use
Alt+r to move to the master list or Alt+u to move to the current
Alt+document
list to check the sort order being used.

Alt+B browse. Allows you to browse for the source file.

Alt+R Master list.

Alt+u Current document list.

Alt+C copy. You can copy from master list and paste to current list.

CTRL+V Paste

Alt+D to delete a selected entry.

Alt+e for the edit button to edit the selected entry.

Alt to bring up the system menu and choose close to close the box.

Under the reference tab of the ribbon you have the citation and bibliography
group. If you use the citation submenu you can add an individual entry and
it will be added in a citation field. If you tab past the Manage Sources
button you will find the bibliography button. Use spacebar and in the
submenu you can use the bibliography menu item to insert the sources or use
the reference menu item. If you choose the bibliography menu item the
sources will be listed and the list has the word Bibliography as a heading 1
style used. If you choose reference from the submenu then the list will
have the word References at the top of the list and will also use the
heading 1 style.

When in the document you can use f11 to move to fields or shift+f11 to move
to previous fields. Insert f5 will list form fields in the document and
citation and bibliography fields will be included.

The sources.xml file is found in
c:\users\username\AppData\Microsoft\Bibliography

Take care.

MS-Word 2013

How do I use MS-Word's Source Manager with JAWS? When I select Source
Manager to add a reference, I am presented with a dialog. Using
tab/shift-tab simply says Source Manager, and arrow keys don't navigate
among the controls or fields. The braille display at least presents the
field names but I haven't succeeded in entering data.

Suggestions?

I normally use LaTeX for this kind of work, which is obviously completely
accessible as it's based entirely on specially marked up text files and
BibTeX files for citations. Of course, LaTeX is my preference, but some
journals or colleagues may require MS-Word format, so it's useful to know
what my bibliography handling options are in this environment.

hello Tom;
well, I'm wondering if the unsaved/saved drafts are being placed into the
outlook data file folder.

do you see such animal at the bottom of your folders?
this is the actual outlook pst file.
perhaps the default is the outlook data file folder.

Thanks for this info, Tim.

A call to the Microsoft Accessibility Office might be what is really needed
here.

Hopefully, if they can fix the issue, they can tell me how they did it,
since it happens on both my main home computer, and my new work laptop.

I suggest calling the Microsoft Accessibility office at 800-936-5900. They
can remote in to your computer, and should be able to figure this out. I
have been impressed with the diligence of the folks in that office. The
last time I called them, I had an issue that they could not figure out, and
got hold of upper level tech support that did figure out the answer. It all
happened in that single phone call. They always send me a subsequent email
asking for feedback on how they did.

Louise:

I just tried your approach by hitting Alt F4 to exit outlook. It asked me
if I wanted to save my message, just as it did when I used the escape key
normally, to which I responded Yes.

Unfortunately, even with this approach, my message was not saved. I could
not find it in either my local or g-mail draft, junk, saved, or spam
folders.

I simply can't imagine where these messages are going, especially since I
told Outlook to save them in the drafts folder.

On your second note, I, like you, find it easier to find relevant folders in
Outlook by simply shift-tabbing to my folder list and accessing my desired
folder either via the arrow keys or by first-letter navigation.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions, though. I'll keep plugging away at
things here. Hopefully others will have additional things for me to try.

I'm also going to try to get some sighted assistance here to help determine
what might be going on.

Hello, everyone.

I am experiencing a problem with Outlook 2010, that I can't seem to resolve.

If I am writing an e-mail, and find the need to leave my computer before
sending the message, I often like to save my message in the drafts folder.
My usual way of doing this is to hit the escape key, at which time I will be
asked whether I want the message to be saved. Of course, I respond by
answering yes, thinking that all should be well. However, after I do
this, I look for the supposedly saved message in my drafts folder, and it is
not there. I check both my local drafts folder, and the drafts folder under
my expanded outlook folders. The last time this happened, I even checked my

Re: [JAWS-Users] reccording to computer from tapes

2014-12-29 Thread Paul Shallbetter

Hi Theresa,

Many questions again. Okay...here goes.

1. Cassette tapes are in an analog format. To be saved on the computer,
they must be converted to a digital format. Since your laptop has no audio
inputs, you'll have to digitize the audio before transferring it to the
computer via the USB port. Therefore:

a.) You can buy an interface which has the ADC (analog to digital converter)
built in. Or,

b.) you can as you said, use a digital recorder, then simply transfer the
files.

2. Either way, you'll end up with a recording where 2 of the 4 tracks will
be present in the right and left stereo channels. If this happens, there's
no way to separate them. However, if you transfer one side of the cassette
at a time, you can then select either the right or left channels and make
each into a separate audio track (i.e. saved as a separate file). Again,
using either Audacity or Goldwave (Goldwave is better for this task), you
can easily separate out the tracks.

Again, I'm presuming that you're attempting to copy Library of Congress
audio book format cassettes. For normal stereo (i.e. music) cassettes, the
job is a bit easier.

Best Buy and DAK Electronics both sell little plug-in audio interfaces for
laptops. They typically feature a male USB connector to put into the
computer on one end, and a 1/8 (3.5 millimeter) female audio port of the
other side. Again, Goldwave is the best solution for software, both in
terms of accessibility and functionality. However, you might want to search
the Internet to find other applications that might be cheaper and/or easier.
But Goldwave is what I use.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your repply.

Would it be possible to record a four-track tape with Audacity, wihich is
free? If the old cable that conected old tape recorders doesn't work, I
wonder if I could do the recording without conecting the recorder to the
computer. Like in the old days when those cables were not around.

I was also thinking about using a digital recorder and then transfering
the content to the computer form there, but is it posible to do the
four-track? I am new to all of this, so that is why I need detailed
information.

Thanks again. Happy new year,

Hi Theresa,

Lots of questions.

First off, see if you can find a USB to audio adaptor. I've seen a couple
that use the 3.5 m.m. (1/8 inch) connector, but I haven't seen one that
uses

the same RCA phono connectors that were used on old tape decks. You might
need an adaptor cable as well.

Yes, using Goldwave you could record each side of the tape to digital,
then

cut/copy the left track or right track to a new sound file. If you don't
have crosstalk between the channels, this will work fine. Same thing

Same thing
goes

for Library of Congress format tapes, which are at half normal cassette
speed; just record them into Goldwave, select the Pitch option from the
Effects menu, then select (down one octave) to normalize the speed.

A larger problem I have had with interfaces is that they fight over the
ACEO

drivers with JAWS, and JAWS usually loses. So, you might find yourself
without speech.

I don't know if any of this helps; I bought a $79.00 cheap
direct-to-digital tape player that connects directly into a USB port.

Paul

think we're becoming so politically correct, many of us are afraid of saying
merry Christmas in case we offend someone who doesn't believe in it. I, for
one, think that if people don't want to read such messages, they should just

I doubt it. There are some English words like putting or read that will
pronounce differently based on context - i.e. based on adjoining words.
However putting can be pronounced as though you are tapping a golf ball into
the hole, vs. placing an item up on a shelf.

Read can be pronounced in the present or past verb tense.

One idea I've not tried is to put some of those contact word pairs into the
default dictionary with forced pronunciations, to see if that helps. Give it a
try.

I am still using JAWS 14, but am currently on the same Word and Windows
programs as you. There are a wealth of formatting options, just as in Word
2003, but the quickest way to get to the most frequently changed parameters
from Word is to highlight the portion you wish to modify (or all of it with
Ctrl A) then use Alt O then P to get to the Paragraph formatting options..
That paragraph should work the same as in the XP and 2003 version.

If you have recently upgraded to Windows 8.1, you will probably be finding that
searching the internet using the new Internet Explorer app is quite different

Windows 8.1 comes with two different versions of Internet Explorer:
IE11 which is the new ‘metro’ style app and is opened by clicking a tile on

1, press the start menu button, your placed into the search area,

2, type in;

now, down arrow enter on,

you are placed into the internet properties,
ctrl+tab until you hear;

now you will see;
let internet explorer decide,
Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop
Always in Internet Explorer on the desktop

can remote in to your computer, and should be able to figure this out. I
have been impressed with the diligence of the folks in that office. The
last time I called them, I had an issue that they could not figure out, and
got hold of upper level tech support that did figure out the answer. It all
happened in that single phone call. They always send me a subsequent email

Unfortunately, even with this approach, my message was not saved. I could

If you have recently upgraded to Windows 8.1, you will probably be finding that
searching the internet using the new Internet Explorer app is quite different
from using previous versions.

Windows 8.1 comes with two different versions of Internet Explorer:
IE11 which is the new ‘metro’ style app and is opened by clicking a tile on
the Start screen

1, press the start menu button, your placed into the search area, or, you could

2, type in;

now, down arrow enter on,

ctrl+tab until you hear;

now you will see;
let internet explorer decide,
Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop Always in Internet Explorer on the

Hi

When you say you don't have a menu bar, do you mean that the menu bar is
invisible, even to the JAWS cursor, or that pressing alt or alt+f doesn't do
anything? Which browser are you using? If the browser is Internet Explorer,
you might be in full screen mode which makes the menu bar invisible. Try

2014-12-29 Thread Mike Boyd

Tom,

Try this:

1. Open Outlook
2. Go to the File menu, and then right arrow over to the next tab, (I cannot
remember what it is called)

3. Tab down to Open Outlook Data File
4. Press Enter on this
5. You will be prompted for the file name, and type the following:
C:\users\Tom\documents\Outlook Files\Outlook Data file name.
6. The name of the Data File should be something like Outlook1. You can
navigate to this location before doing this to double check the file name.
7. On the resulting page that opens, you will find links to view lists of
the emails from the folders like Inbox, Drafts, and Deleted Items.

8. Maybe you can find your lost messages here.

Goodluck.

Tom,

Thinking a bit outside the box now. What if you put some unique characters
in the subject line of a test email, like XX - whatever is
unique. Then do your usual ctrl S or your preferred save to draft
method. Then do a search using the alt key to bring up the Windows 7 Search

search will disclose the location of your saved messages and solve the
mystery of the missing (or AWOL) draft folder. Good luck!

I am experiencing a problem with Outlook 2010, that I can't seem to resolve.

If I am writing an e-mail, and find the need to leave my computer before
sending the message, I often like to save my message in the drafts folder.
My usual way of doing this is to hit the escape key, at which time I will be

Re: [JAWS-Users] Regarding Adwcleaner

2014-12-29 Thread Steve
Mauricio,

It might be safe to proceed with all items checked. But, it is a good idea
to try to look over the list. Periodically, some programs are incorrectly
identified as malware that aren't; I remember a while ago, the System Access
screen reader had some components that were identified by Malware Bytes
version 2 as malware. Obviously, if that happens, you could have some
issues.

So, to the extent you can, it is a good practice to look over the list.
Obviously, you probably won't be able to know what the alphanumeric strings
are that it might find in registry keys, but you can see what files,
processes, browser help objects and toolbars it finds, and you can use a
search engine to see if they are regarded as harmful.

My experience with this program as been good on the five computers I've run
it on so far. But, it isn't all-inclusive and I can't guarantee that it
wouldn't hose something you might use.

Hi Steve,

The fact that this program is accessible using JAWS has me very interested.
However, in your instructions for using Adwcleaner, you mention having to
check items we would like to have purged from our computers: What I would
like to know is how will we know which items are necessary to remove and
which should remain? Can the casual computer user cause harm if they choose

Re: [JAWS-Users] Regarding Adwcleaner

2014-12-29 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Mike,
It appeared to me that the files outside of the quarantine folder are just
reports, and I deleted mine.
If you leave the Quarantine folder alone, you can restore a program from
within the ADWCleaner program interface.
I too found that it removed the Sendspace Wizard, as well as the Mozilla
Firefox folder.
I did restore them, and all is well.

HTH,

Hi Steve Mauricio,

If you use the Send Space Wizard make sure to uncheck it! LOL LOL

I left it checked just to see what would happen yes, I had to reinstall
it. LOL

However, the AdwCleaner creates a folder on the root of the C drive , is it
safe to delete it's contents? The contents seem to tell you what has been
removed I assume, am I correct / safe in my assumption? I do like the ease
in which the program can be navigated with Jaws. Thank you very much for
letting the list know about it.

Take care.

Can the casual computer user cause harm if they choose
to check all items without actually knowing what each item refers to, or is
every item found by Adwcleaner fair game? For instance, CCleaner, which I
recognize is not used for removing malware, seldom, if ever, is so invasive
that critical components are recommended for removal.

Thanks for any additional information you can provide.

Mauricio

Thanks, Bob. Yeah, I did forget the best part--the price!

I'm glad it seemed to work for you. I know my client has had several people
trying to get rid of the crap on her computer. When I ran across that
program, since a lot of other sites recommended either running in safe mode
or some program where you had to make a purchase for it to supposedly clean
the computer, I wass so excited when I ran it on her PC and it cleaned
almost everything out. I only had to go back in and delete one process that
was scheduoled to run again in four hours. After ten days, her computer
still appears clean, and the program couldn't be more accessible.

Hi Steeve.

I'm always on the lookout for a good computer purger.

I decided to try Adwcleaner based on your recommendations.

First, since neither your message nor the Adwcleaner website mentioned the
price, I was glad to find it was free.

Second, your tutorial told me exactly what to expect.

Third, my results showed me some registry entries I had never noticed so I
decided it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and clean them.

Finally, my computer is still working fine. So I think this is a keeper.

Thanks for your recommendation.

I think we're becoming so politically correct, many of us are afraid of
saying merry Christmas in case we offend someone who doesn't believe in

should just delete them and ignore them. They always mean a lot to me and
