Kevin, Oh, how I agree. Jaws has started doing some really odd things
and I don't know why. I can be typing and Jaws just stops talking.
This happens in internet explorer and Word Pad. Sure is frustrating!

Ok, Jaws 14 is talking my ears off. When I type characters in Word
Pad on this HP laptop running Windows 8.2, Jaws says the character and
100%. When I open the program, Jaws takes off reading everything on
the menu. I don't know if there was some kind of update or what but
the ghost have even decided to make me log in when this computer is
left alone for a while. Since I have rethought using a hammer on it,
what else can I do to put this back to normal? Thanks so much!

Try pressing, Insert + S, until you hear Jaws report, highlighted, to see if

Also press, Insert + 2, on the number row above the main keyboard until Jaws

[JAWS-Users] issue using my HIMS braille display with JAWS 16

2015-01-24 Thread Jesse Tregarthen
Hello again, I am wondering if somebody could please help me solve a
braille display problem. I got my BrailleSense U2 from HIMS connected
via Bluetooth and set it up in my new JAWS 16 and braille was showing
up on the display but after only a few seconds, the whole computer
would seem to jam up. Nothing I did seemed to yield a result. I
thought it was just JAWS but using my hotkey proved fruitless and
nothing else I did to the laptop made any change. The only way I was
able to rectify this was by shutting down the computer and starting it
again. This does not happen normally with JAWS but it happens every
time I try using the display. Am I doing something wrong or is it a
JAWS issue? Thanks in advance. Best, Jesse Tregarthen

[JAWS-Users] using the Enlite simulation lab with My IT lab from Pearson education

2015-01-24 Thread Jesse Tregarthen
Hello all, I am taking a course where we are learning the Microsoft
Office Suite of applications on an advanced level and we are using an
online training site called my IT lab made by Pearson Education. The
website is mostly navigable however one of the things we have to do
are Windows-based simulation labs. We complete these sim labs in my IT
lab using something called the Enlite simulation lab. When I enter it,
it comes up with this my IT lab desktop window which is supposed to be
the simulation environment but navigating with my arrow keys yields no
results with my JAWS 16. I activated the JAWS cursor and then all I
get are unlabeled graphics. I happened to use the left mouse button on
one of these graphics and it caused JAWS to read the task I was
supposed to complete. No amount of hitting enter or left mouse button
or right mouse button on the task or the graphics surrounding it in
JAWS cursor or PC cursor yields any result. I was just wondering if
anybody here has had any luck with this my IT lab simulation
environment or if there are any scripts anybody knows about. This is
for my class so I am trying to solve this problem as soon as I can so
I thought I would ask the list. Thanks in advance for any help. Best
regards, Jesse Tregarthen

Re: [JAWS-Users] Program for saving Phone numbers?

2015-01-24 Thread Mike Boyd

There is a free program called Rodex, which of course is like a Rolodex
file. With this program, you have a card for
each contact, and you can write their information in any manner that you
want. I always put the name, theaddress, phone number, and then
email address. You can create a new card file for different types of
contacts, such as personal friends, family, and business contacts. You then
save these card files to your computer, and name them according to their
contents. When a card file is opened, you can then flip from one card to
another, or choose to have all of the names listed on your screen to be able
to click on the one that you want to view the information on. You would have
to do an internet search for the download, because I do not remember who
makes the software.

Yes, you can start Narrator using the Windows + Enter key combination. It
will do the job of at least getting the file downloaded and put in an
accessible location, like the desktop.

I would assume you could get the process started by using Narrato which, in
Windows 8.1, is supposed to be easier to work with than in previous versions

Thank you for a more in-depth description of the process. Imagine me
wondering how I would navigate to a web page, download a file to give my
tablet speech without having any in the first place. If I could do that
myself then you folks would be looking for another JAWS list because it
would be of no further use to me.

So my thoughts that there would be no way at all a blind person could do it
themselves is basicly confirmed. I figure you have to place an ILM key on it
as well, he stated hoping for confirmation on that as well.

Hello, someone else already described an option. Someone sighted,
helped me do it. I did download the program and put the file on a SD card
and hooked it up to the tablet and installed through this process.
You might also turn off the user account settings, where you have to give
permission to install new programs. My friend found where to do this and he
did it. I do not recall how he did it.

Would you mind describing the procedure for installing JAWS on a tablet. I

Hi first I do use windows 8.1.1 and I find two things that help me and yes I
use JAWS 16.

One first using the desk top I have put the programs on it that I use all
the time.

Two I have put the most important ones on the task bar and use windows 1 up
to windows 9 to get the ones and I put them in order of importants this
makes it easy.

I always have email in one and getting my documents there was hard but it is
in two and then in three is Firefox and on and on.

I love that I can open them in anywhere I am so in email I can open new word
document or go anywhere else and go back by hitting email one again or use
alt tab.

I put on desk top things that are only used less often.

I find that tab or shift tab is very helpful in some areas.

If you have any questions ask for information and I will try to answer. One
more thing that I use a lot is application key or on lap top computer shift
f10. This is one of the areas you will find things to help you.

Pearson education

Hello all, I am taking a course where we are learning the Microsoft Office
Suite of applications on an advanced level and we are using an online
training site called my IT lab made by Pearson Education. The website is
mostly navigable however one of the things we have to do are Windows-based
simulation labs. We complete these sim labs in my IT lab using something
called the Enlite simulation lab. When I enter it, it comes up with this my
IT lab desktop window which is supposed to be the simulation environment but
navigating with my arrow keys yields no results with my JAWS 16. I activated
the JAWS cursor and then all I get are unlabeled graphics. I happened to use
the left mouse button on one of these graphics and it caused JAWS to read
the task I was supposed to complete. No amount of hitting enter or left
mouse button or right mouse button on the task or the graphics surrounding
it in JAWS cursor or PC cursor yields any result. I was just wondering if
anybody here has had any luck with this my IT lab simulation environment or
if there are any scripts anybody knows about. This is for my class so I am
trying to solve this problem as soon as I can so I thought I would ask the
list. Thanks in advance for any help. Best regards, Jesse Tregarthen

Hi, I just wondered what email servers any of you use that work well with
jaws as far as accessibility? I have given up on Yahoo, and don't want to go
to something just as bad. Thanks. Judy Tallie

2015-01-24 Thread Mike Boyd

Sounds to me like your computer needs a good scanning for malware. I have
seen this happen before, and there is usually something infecting your
computer to make these things happen. The JAWS items are not related to the
sign in thing, but could be caused by the same thing. If you cannot find the
culprit using your own virus and or malware software, then call Microsoft
Accessibility and ask them to scan it using some of the tools that they have
available to them.

Or you could use JAWSKey+3, the JAWS bypass command.

I only had to run it as admin the first time. I have noticed the change
in the follow command. I believe that someone said it is now
CONTROL-WIN-S. You can also hit CONTROL-WIN-K which will give you a
menu, and you can choose follow from that menu. Also, I have noticed
that sometimes JAWS will capture a Qube key command. One example is when
I hit CONTROL-WIN-K to bring up the key command menu, JAWS thinks I want
to go to a place marker. I have found that when using the Qube with
JAWS, it is better to ALT-TAB away from an application where JAWS
commands would be used.

way to fix these things? Using jaws 16 with windows 7.

Ctrl+windows+l is now a JAWS16 keystroke, so to use it in theQube, first
press the JAWS pass-through keystroke JAWSKey+3. Pressing enter twice on
open as administrator on the first use should have solved the not-running
issue. There is a beta of a newer, different version of theQube on another
site, whose URL I don't have to hand.

I'm looking on the freedom scientific website for the manual for the focus
14 blue braille display.

I activated the combo box in the menu and chose focus braille display and
activated the submit button.

This returned no results.

Perhaps I just plain don't know how there menu works.

Maybe one of you good folks could give me a hint.

Have a fantastic new year!
