If you have Windows 7 64-bit or higher, Goldwave 6.10.
If you have 32-bit or Vista or XP, Goldwave 5.70 is the highest version.
The Goldwave folks improved access to their help screen in 6.10 if you see

Re: [JAWS-Users] Backstage view in Word 2013

2015-02-03 Thread Mike Boyd

The backstage view should be called the front and center view, because that
is what it is if you don't disable it, front and center everytime you open a
new word document. This goes for Excel as well. Then, it is a real headache
to find a simple blank document, so that you can start from scratch.
Personally, I don't need nor want all of those useless templates.

To all-

Dropbox is free, but only provides you 2 gig of space to start.
You gain .5 gig of space with referrals to friends who sign up.

If you Use Dropbox for Business, you can pay $9.999 a month and get a
Teram\byt.

I would suggest OneDrive, as it gives you 15 Gigs to start, and if you
synchronize with your iPhone you can obtain an additional 15 gigs by having
your camera backed up to it in place of iCloud.

I suspect that Apple will change its pricing structure for its iCloud
storage, what it could be is yet to be seen, but with all the free storage
available by competitors they might change.

Hope this all helps

Are there any known issues with using JAWS14 with Windows 8.1?
Unfortunately, JAWS16 has not been approved in my work environment and I've
got some JAWS users who have been moved over to Windows8.1 and are
experiencing problems. None of them are experiencing the same problems. FS
has been contacted in each situation and has told the user and the IT rep
that there is no way to resolve the problem other than moving to JAWS16. IT
is convinced that because no 2 users are experiencing the exact same
problem, that the issues can be resolved and there is no need for JAWS16.

Some problems that have been experienced are:

. Inability to use Alt plus a number key to read header info in an
open Outlook2010 e-mail message

. Unable to navigate the Outlook2010 calendar

. Unable to read the contents of an Excel2010 cell after using the
F2 to enter into Edit mode of that cell

. Many problems with using spell checker in MS-Word2010.

Are there any known problems like the ones listed above that can be
attributed to the use of JAWS14 that can only be resolved by moving to
JAWS16? Are there any other issues not listed here that can only be
resolved by moving to JAWS16?

Thanks,

This is not encouraging information. Are you sure the

2015-02-03 Thread Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
Sounds like problems 11 and 12 had with Office under XP. As I recall, the
fault lay in the video handling that changed under JAWS 11. Frequent
complaints to the other JAWS mailing list, to John Carson, to anyone who would
listen, finally got the problem resolved under JAWS 13, but I was never able to
use 11 or 12 productively at home and never brought them into my office, where
Access and Excel were fairly important.

Unfortunately, JAWS16 has not been approved in my work environment and I've got
some JAWS users who have been moved over to Windows8.1 and are experiencing
problems. None of them are experiencing the same problems. FS has been
contacted in each situation and has told the user and the IT rep that there is
no way to resolve the problem other than moving to JAWS16. IT is convinced
that because no 2 users are experiencing the exact same problem, that the
issues can be resolved and there is no need for JAWS16.

Some problems that have been experienced are:

. Inability to use Alt plus a number key to read header info in an
open Outlook2010 e-mail message

. Unable to navigate the Outlook2010 calendar

. Unable to read the contents of an Excel2010 cell after using the

. Many problems with using spell checker in MS-Word2010.

Are there any known problems like the ones listed above that can be attributed

Annette,
I would be curious. After working in two different areas. One running my
son's Stone-Hill-Business and Working for AAA Emergency Road Service as a
Call Receiver. With AAA, I had my own license Pro running my son's business
and just received permission from Freedom Scientific to use at AAA, now 15
years ago. Anyway, at the AAA job I had a lot of script writing done to
accomplish some of the task in doing Emergency Road service calls. In the
scripting I can tell you if it was working fine and then there is issues.
The area set up for the scripts (Sorry don't know the term knowledge used)
yet if those frames have been moved or there has been an up-grade to the
system, it will throw off the scripts. The other is is the company willing
to drop back to Windows 7 where maybe the Jaws in question was working or
willing to wait till Windows 10 comes out in Late March so I've been told.
As I've been told it will be one more secure and similar to windows 7..
The question might end up coming to what is the company willing to spend in
the Jaws..
Geno

I am in agreement with you, but I need concrete information to build my
case. Given that my users are having such varied experiences, I'm hoping
that someone can point me in the direction of a known and consistent problem
that I can replicate, and then use as supporting evidence.

[JAWS-Users] suggestions for braille displays and j-say and thunderbird

2015-02-03 Thread Joey Lamperis
Hi list,

I have two questions for you.
OI need a suggestion from you.
I am trying to purchase a braille display.
The issues would be size, cost and as you can tell, I am not as
careful with one.
What should I get?
Also, why would anybody use j-say if you are fluent in typing?
A lot of errors can occur.
For example, Joey was never said right in Dragon.
It kept telling me Doey or Joley.
In addition why does John Martyn forcefully say to get thunderbird,
when we all know that Gmail is totally better in the case of email.

The problem of numbering the page numbers yourself is that if you then need to
edit the document and your page breaks change you would then have to go through
the document and make all necessary changes. Not very efficient.
Set up automatic page numbering solves this and only has to be done once per
document.
Under menu item insert arror to header and footers and there you will find a
page number option.

Window-eyes folder. Once you've installed the driver, plug the Edge into the
computer and let it finish installing. Once it's all done, go to the
utilities menu in JAWS and choose the synthesizer and Braille manager. Tab
to the button that says add, remove or change devices. Follow the prompts
to select the display from the list. It will ask you to set options. Set it
to usb. You will also want to choose the Edge as the default display when
prompted to do so. Once all that is done, you just need to restart JAWS, and
you should be good to go.

Not as bad as placing footnotes, something I haven't had to do in more than 30
years, but I take the point. It should be possible to set up the project the
way you want it, and just go. The only thing on your mind, once you begin,
should be saying what needs to be said in the best way possible. I haven't
fooled with page numbers for a while, but sounds as if I need to look at that

One of the advantages of working on a computer is that you have the ability to
get something done with a keystroke rather than making some monotonous project
out of it. When working on a multi-page project you have enough on your mind
without numbering pages.

Hello Liuda,
You may wish, or need to create a new template.
Create a New Template
1. Press alt then f for file, then n for new, 2. Tab down to Blank Document.
3. Press right arrow to My Documents and press enter.
4. arrow around to find blank document
6. tab down past okay button to create new template button 7. Here, anything
you do to the document, (such as inserting page numbers,) becomes part of the
template.
8. press enter and then insert t to confirm it is a new template.

Let me add a couple things and ask another question
First control shift f will fast forward rapidly. Control shift G goes
about half as fast giving you more control if you are looking for a
particular place in the audio file. Also to slow it down is control shift S.

My question is why control shift B does not rewind it on my machine. I also
tried control shift R If it makes a difference I will goe back and chec
my WMP version. But I am running windows 7 and Jaws 16 so I would think
that it should work.

This is not encouraging information. Are you sure the
restore point you used was in fact prior to updating to
12.1? My understanding of this process was it rolled one's
system back to a point prior to the installation which in
this case should have brought you back to iTunes 12.0126 or
whatever the initial version 12 was.

Yes, you are right. You can read the dates/time with regular
cursor but the name that follows is not read unless you use
the JAWS cursor. I read through some of the FAQ's on using
this. If I understand correctly, say I install the most
recent version of ITunes, which many are saying is not
working well with JAWS. Now say I don't like it and select a
restore point prior to installing it. Will the version I was
currently using of iTunes be back when I restore?
