Re: [JAWS-Users] File Explorer and ribbons

2015-02-19 Thread Mike Boyd
It does sound a lot like the window is minimized. you can try arrowing down
at the message that pops up and see if there is a maximize option, or you
can use the Windows + Space Bar, folowed by the letter X key stroke to do
this as well. If this is the problem, to fix it permanently, right click on
the desktop icon for File Explorer, and then Properties. Under the General
tab, there will be a set of options called Run, and you should arrow down to
maximized, then tab down to apply, then around again to OK.

I think it is control + F1, not F2, that expands or collapses the ribbons;
you want them expanded. Control F1 toggles the ribbons on and off.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws Virtual Curser not working

2015-02-19 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Hello all:

I have used Jaws for many years but had never encountered this problem
before, would be grateful if someone has and wants to share the solution or
his or her thoughts about the problem.

I teach blind veterans the use of Jaws and one such veteran whom I had
tought a year or two ago how to search and download books from the BARD
website, suddenly found himself unable to navigate it. Since he could before
and cannot now, obviously something must have changed, but he does not
remember any problem or change. I went over there and found:

1. It isn't that particular website, it is all of them, at least in IE.
2. All Jaws shortcuts are inoperative, I.E. Insert-F7 does not give you a
list of links, H does not take you anywhere, neither do L, E or any other.
3. The Virtual curser does not seem to work, except with the Tab key.
4. With Jaws curser everything works.
5. Veteran has Windows 7 64-bit

What I have tried:

1. Updated Jaws 14 to Jaws 16, Pro version, no change.
2. Updated IE8 to IE 11, no change.
3. Thought it could be stuck on the Touch curser, it was not.
4. Tried a different keybord, just in case. No change.

Since he says it has not worked for some time now, I doubt I can restore his
computer to a date far enough in the past. Any ideas?

TIA,

Humberto

Hi Group,

I have a friend of mine that is having a JAWS 16 issue. If you can help or
make any suggestions on this problem, your help would be greatly
appreciated. Below is the email I received from him.

Hello, all. I am still not having any success with my earlier issue
involving JAWS 16. I just thought I would revisit, updating you on what I
tried most recently, and see if anyone at all has a suggestion. Please
pardon the lengthy post, by the way.

I am using JAWS 16.0.1925 on a Fujitsu laptop, Windows 7 64-bit. I have 8 mb
of RAM and a 2.1 processor.

When I read through a document line by line, using the down arrow, JAWS
often rereads the line, even though I have pressed DownArrow. In addition, I
am a fast typer, and sometimes I notice that JAWS messes up email addresses
and subject lines in emails I send through Outlook 2010. I could blame this
on my typing, but I have been a JAWS user since JFW 2.00 and did not see
this issue until I installed JAWS 16.

I contacted FS Technical Support and, upon their recommendation, did a
repair of the install. As that made no difference, I uninstalled JAWS and
all shared components and reinstalled from the DVD. Still no success! I
contacted technical support again, and not only uninstalled JAWS and all
shared components, but removed all JAWS references from the registry. As
soon as I reinstalled JAWS, it worked correctly! However, the very next
morning, we were back to having the issue.

FS seems to think it is not a JAWS problem, but no one seems to be able to
tell me what setting on my machine to check or change. All other versions of
JAWS work beautifully.

Does anyone have any idea at all of something I might try? I find it
frustrating to pay for an SMA and then not be able to use the program to
achieve normal productivity on my job.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Creating A Gmail Account

2015-02-19 Thread Flor Lynch
Have you seen the Create An Account, link? Is this your first gmail account?
You're not running both Firefox and IE on the same page concurrently, are
you?
If you are, use one of them, not both!) I think I'd choose Firefox. Also,
don't rule out using an alternative screen-reader, like NVDA, to get the job
done. The thing is that Google now have their own, Chrome, Browser, so they
are not that concerned with Internet Explorer navigation (as they may in the
past have been).

Ultimately, I would try contacting Google by email, as they do have an email
contact (contact us, or whatever it's called) somewhere on the sign-up page.

Its been a long time, but I think that Gmail will just send you back to

make any suggestions on this problem, your help would be greatly
appreciated.

David, you know I do check my emails daily, and take all of them out of the
spam folder and either delete them or mark them "not spam" to go to the

are they bouncing? Anyway, it was easily fixed and I agree that this is a
very well run list. Thanks. Judy & Tallie

Subject: [JAWS-Users] more about bouncing email messages and what to do

First let me explain what a bouncing message is and the 2 types there are.

Now this list generates a huge amount of email during the course of an
average day. For example once I send this message out to the list the server
will send a copy to everybody who is set to receive mail currently over 600
members.

Now as we all know the internet is perfect and nothing ever goes wrong. I
almost couldn't keep a straight face while writing that last sentence. So
let's say the impossible happens and somebody's message doesn't get
delivered because their ISP is down or some other imaginary condition. Then
that message bounces back to the server. At that point the Mailman server
program makes a note of it and after a few such bounces stops sending out
messages to you. Then it sends out reactivation notices which I will post a
sample of at the end of this long email.

The other type is when somebody does not check their email for a time and
their inbox fills up and can't hold any more messages. Kind of like when you
go to leave a voice message only to hear the voice mailbox is full and can't
receive any more messages.

Of course as we all know everybody on here checks their email 14 times a day
so that can't possibly happen either.

So say that it is at a point where 40 people post in a short period of time
when somebody else's' email starts bouncing. All of a sudden the server is
getting 40 messages bouncing from person X, so it disables that account. All
that means is at that point it is going to send out notices.

If you simply hit reply and send on the notice your account is reactivated.
If you don't after a few days the server will simply remove you because that
is how it is programmed to react.

Believe me boys and girls having done bounce handling manually on Yahoo
groups it was like a birthday present to have the server do it for us. I
remember Rick saying "oh no, say it isn't so" when I told him about it.
Pretty nice for us all right.

Even if you get removed by the server for bouncing messages you are still
free to sign up again.

Although we have done it the fact is unless you do something pretty bad you
can still join up again hopefully after reviewing the guidelines more
closely, but I digress. Yes in case you're wondering we can block somebody
from returning to the list if need be, but it's been quite a while since the
last time we did that particular thing.

So now it is time for an example message from the Mailman server. I hope
everybody has followed along, I'm getting $0.10 for word.

you want them expanded. Control F1 toggles the ribbons on and off.

end so, I'm re-sending. I've been trying for the last 3 hours to create a
Gmail email account. I click on the, Sign In link, then go to, Create An
Account. I enter my name, what I want my email to be, password / verified
password, birthday, did not put in a mobile number, checked the box to
accept the terms, & entered the solved Captcha by webvisum. But, when I
press the next button I'm taken right back to the top of the, Create
Account, page. The password fields are empty so, I create a new password &
verify it but, after making sure that all the information is inserted
correctly & solve another captcha & press spacebar on the next button it all
starts all over again! I'm running XP, Outlook Express, Firefox 35.0.1, &
Jaws13. What am I doing wrong?! All help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much
Take care.
Mike

Hi Holger,

No, Bit Defender is not compatible, right now, I would probably recommend
AVG. Normally, I would say Vipre, but Threat Track has changed the
programming language for Vipre, and they are having to work out the
accessibility bugs.

Holger,

When running the free version, the program will not install onto your PC,
but if you purchase the Pro version, it should. If you call Microsoft
Accessibility, they will only run the program for you, not give you
technical support for using the program yourself, as they only support
Microsoft products. After the scan completes, just be sure to switch to the

I checked my printer, because I am running Windows 8.1, and it makes no
sound while the computer is booting up, but it still prints, scans, and
copies. So, I guess this is how it is with Windows 8.1. Is the printer
refusing to work in any other way? When the computer is already running, and
I manually turn the printer off and then back on again, this is when I hear
the print head resetting itself.

Can't you hear the printer positioning the printing head when you first

The easiest thing would be to try printing something and see what happens.

Hi Anna,

You can get this message if you have just started a transfer of files
from one place to another on your computer, especially if you have sent
them to the
recycle bin, and then you try to empty the bin before the transfer has
completed. Everything that you were moving will be canceled , so you
should wait

Hi Mike,

Maybe, you have to give a mobile phone nummbber, because it needs one. LOL!
Try making up one, if

that's possble or you won't give your existing mobile number. See, I know
that Google *require* that you have a mobile number, for two-sep
verification purposes so that you can sign into your account on different
computers when necessary. And as it happens, apart from some privacy
concerns (though the number is handled by a computer not a human) it works

hello there;
perhaps your password doesn't meet the requirements.
or, perhaps the username/loggin name is already taken.

Choose a Password. Gmail requires that your password be at
least 8 characters long, and can be any combination of lower
and/or uppercase letters, numbers, or symbols that you choose. You will
need to enter your password every time you log into your account,
so make sure you choose a password that you can remember
easily!

If you are unsure of how to create a secure password, click on
Password Strength to the right of the Password box for more
information.

As you type in your password, Gmail will measure its strength. The
stronger your password is, the more difficult it is for
someone else to guess, and the safer your email account is!

I don't think you should use the sign-in link at this stage, until your
account has been verified. However it's been a long time since I signed up.
(There might be a 'sign up' link or button, for you to use. It's probably,

Hi david,

Thank you very much for your input / reply. Google did tell me that my

name. I must have tried 7 or 8 different passwords using a minimum of 8
characters, using both capital & lower case letters, a number, & symbol but,
every time I spacebarred the next button I was taken back to the top of
Create An Account. I would arrow down & the password fields were empty. I
was enttering my birthdate & filling out all required fields except for the
mobile phone field & was using webvisum to solve the captchas. I was able
to solve & enter every captcha & I still don't have a frickin clue as to
what else I could have done to get an account started! LOL LOL

I never did see a, password strength, option to click on & I did use the

hello there;
perhaps your password doesn't meet the requirements.
or, perhaps the username/loggin name is already taken.

Robert, I have noticed this too. It makes no sense. Also, I've noticed that if
you want to come to the end of a song and want to repeat it, if you press
control b, it goes back to the previous track, rather than the beginning of the
track just played. Does that mean you have to press control t (repeat), even if
it's just to repeat one song once? I always thought "repeat" was more for
repeating a whole album or repeating a single track over and over again.
Perhaps I'm stupid but hey! I'm often slow on the up-take where technology is
concerned (grin).

At any rate, I'd be interested to know if you found a solution to the rewinding
issue within a track.

Cheers!

Let me explain something folks, in order to change the name of the list it
would require setting up an entirely new list. The name cannot simply be
changed at all like I did once on Yahoo groups. Also to move it to another
domain name and web provider would cost around $200 a year for the server
space and domain.

Donations to the cause are so far covering my costs but they in no way could
handle another domain.

I am sorry that at times subscriptions run in to difficulty and you need to
reactivate your respective accounts, but that in the grand scheme of things
sounds like a small price to pay. I currently own this domain until 2020, is
the list going to go that long you might wonder. The short answer is I don't
know, we're coming up on 10 years in business which I personally can't
believe myself.

I have received around 70 notices this morning of members who's subscription
have been disabled for bouncing. If any of you out there who are still
receiving messages know anybody on com cast, SBC Global, hot mail and a
number of other providers who have had their membership disable pending
reactivation by the server to have them contact their ISP and explain that
this domain is not a source of Spam that would be fantastic. Otherwise this
list might shut down a lot faster than I ever figured it would.
Granted the members in question have to follow the directions from the
mailman server to reactivate their accounts, I'm sure most of them will do
just that.
