Hi Pauline,
I changed the subject line to reflect what we are talking about.
There is an updated version of Auto-Sizer that works with Windows 7, but not
with Windows 8 at this time.
The last time the program was updated was August of 2011, version 1.7.

Please do not misrepresent software that you have no idea how it works with

jaws.
We, who use mcafee on this list, freely choose to do so.
We are not trying to push it on anyone, we are just saying that it works
well with Jaws.
after opening mcafee, tab once to the interface and use your up and down

Personally I have been using mcafee products for years and I am very happy
with them.

McAfee
doesn’t work for me, because when I bought my brand new machine last year,
my brother Jason helped me uninstall it, because it’s not accessible! and I

don’t care what some of the indaviduals say about it, because I had
experience with it myself, not only that, I’ve listen to a training on
antivirus software from the training department at freedom scientific,
and they also said that McAfee isn’t accessible either! so yes in deed! I

[JAWS-Users] Modifying the quick access toolbar in word 2013

2015-06-11 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

If you don't use the qat in word you can skip this message.

For anyone who is still reading. I got a new installation of word
recently, which means I lost the modifications I made to my quick
access toolbar. For example, I used to be able to press control 1 and
get the word count of my current document. Control 2,3,4, and 5
allowed me to accept and reject changes. I miss these functions!

It's been so long since I changed the qat that I forget how to do it
and googling doesn't seem to be helping very much.

Could somebody give me a quick tutorial on modifying the qat in word

Hi Kimber,
There is an easier way to do this, but I can't remember it right now. What I
did was to tab to the qat and press the applications key on each button.
There is a remove option in there. Then I went into the ribbons and found
the buttons I wanted to add. When you press the applications key on each
button, there is an "add to quick access toolbar" option in there. there's
also a custumize button at the end of the qat, but I haven't used it. Hope
this helps.

2015-06-11 Thread Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
Either Alt or right mouse click opens the menus of VLC. I have the new version,
and my only problem so far is finding the promised resume feature.

Also, be careful not to over generalize about DVD's on Media Player. I don't
know what error message you get, but, apparently, the driver set in that
program is not all it could be; some disks will not budge, others play like a
charm, and give you access to WMP's full-featured menus and shortcut keys. It
startled me the first time I put a disk in and got an error; I thought I'd done
something stupid to damage the program. I should say that I run under Windows
7, but it is probably the same WMP, as I understand Ms has abandoned the
program.

·

· Windows 10 is a well-meaning effort by Microsoft to mollify Windows 8
haters and coax Windows 7 loyalists to upgrade — all while stubbornly sticking
to its goal of a single OS for every possible platform. And by framing the
problem that way, Microsoft has given itself a nearly impossible task.

· To the company’s credit, each new build lurches closer to being
usable, although with new bugs every time, it is difficult to evaluate how
smooth the final release version will be. Best case: It may earn the grudging
acceptance of Windows 7 users who refuse to move to Windows 8. And part of that
acceptance will come not from sudden enthusiasm for a new way of interacting
with the desktop, but from a desire to take advantage of the clear core
benefits Windows 10 provides in performance, security, administration, and
memory usage over Windows 7 and even Windows 8.

· So why is it so hard to convince users to move to a brand-new, free,
feature-packed, more efficient OS?

·
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/205320-microsoft-windows-10-will-be-the-last-version-of-windows

·

· Apple does it all the time. Simply put, because Microsoft didn’t
build Windows 8 or Windows 10 for Windows users. It built them to further its
own business strategy of using the power of the once-ubiquitous Windows
platform to extend its dominance into the rapidly growing mobile space. The
result is an OS whose features are now flipping and flopping with each new
build — as Microsoft tries to fix problems of its own creation.

· Imagine how good a desktop OS Windows 10 could have been

· What if instead, after realizing what a terrible mistake Windows 8
was, Microsoft had made the truly brave decision to come clean and change its
strategy? If Windows 10 had been designed from the beginning to be the best
possible desktop OS, and the thousands of developer years spent trying to make
it everything to everyone were instead spent providing services and
applications for the mobile OS platforms people actually want? If in tandem
Microsoft was willing to let go of its sub-3% market share in mobile, it could
also have spent the cash it used to buy Nokia to build out its cross-platform
services offerings instead. We could have had a really excellent desktop OS —
worth paying for —

·
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/201601-microsoft-desperately-wants-you-to-move-to-windows-10

·

· and great integration with the leading mobile platforms.

· Certainly Microsoft has woken up to providing competitive versions of
its applications on Android and iOS. But imagine how much further along it
would have been if it had put real work into the effort starting years ago.
Perhaps we wouldn’t have to use third-party utilities to sync our information
between Google and Outlook, for example. Or OneNote might have supported
syncing on Android during the first several years it was available, instead of
only recently. Pick any Microsoft desktop technology you access from your iOS
or Android device and you can come up with a list of features that would make
it much more useful.

·

· It’s not like there isn’t anything to fix in Windows

· Anyone who thinks Microsoft didn’t focus on desktop users as it
evolved Windows 8 and 10 because its desktop OS has “no need for improvement”
hasn’t spent enough time wrestling with the inscrutable hex error codes from
Windows Update, or debugging driver version mismatches, or finding information
they’re sure is somewhere on their disk. While Windows 10 isn’t final, judging
by the builds so far, all of those problems are still there. Even support for
high-resolution displays is still spotty. Windows 10 adds some new Zoom
options, but there is still no serious scalable-font solution that works across
the full range of possible displays.

· As a good example of how this alternate direction would have worked,
let’s look at the Control Panel. No one doubts that it is an old, crufty system
for managing a computer. A desktop-focused OS project would have overhauled it
completely while preserving its functionality. Instead, Microsoft seems
determined to replace it in bits and pieces with new “touch-friendly” settings
that aren’t much more intuitive, and that become even more frustrating when you
need to go back to the old system for pieces that are still missing. Windows 10
is supposed to address this problem, but weâ€

Re: [JAWS-Users] Old Window's Updates Removed?

2015-06-11 Thread Trish
I see. Well, I didn't have the "old updates" option. Did have the "window's
update" it was already checked. This is similar to disk cleanup, with the
exception of the window's update.
I performed the steps, freeing up 389/mb. However, when I went to window's
update, there still is the very long 200+ list of updates going back to 2011.
So, I guess my way of thinking what is "old" doesn't mesh with what window's
thinks apparently,lol

Thanks again for all your help!

. Windows 10 is a well-meaning effort by Microsoft to mollify
Windows 8 haters and coax Windows 7 loyalists to upgrade - all while
stubbornly sticking to its goal of a single OS for every possible platform.
And by framing the problem that way, Microsoft has given itself a nearly
impossible task.

. To the company's credit, each new build lurches closer to being
usable, although with new bugs every time, it is difficult to evaluate how
smooth the final release version will be. Best case: It may earn the
grudging acceptance of Windows 7 users who refuse to move to Windows 8. And
part of that acceptance will come not from sudden enthusiasm for a new way
of interacting with the desktop, but from a desire to take advantage of the
clear core benefits Windows 10 provides in performance, security,
administration, and memory usage over Windows 7 and even Windows 8.

. So why is it so hard to convince users to move to a brand-new,
free, feature-packed, more efficient OS?

. Apple does it all the time. Simply put, because Microsoft didn't
build Windows 8 or Windows 10 for Windows users. It built them to further
its own business strategy of using the power of the once-ubiquitous Windows
platform to extend its dominance into the rapidly growing mobile space. The
result is an OS whose features are now flipping and flopping with each new
build - as Microsoft tries to fix problems of its own creation.

. Imagine how good a desktop OS Windows 10 could have been

. What if instead, after realizing what a terrible mistake Windows 8
was, Microsoft had made the truly brave decision to come clean and change
its strategy? If Windows 10 had been designed from the beginning to be the
best possible desktop OS, and the thousands of developer years spent trying
to make it everything to everyone were instead spent providing services and
applications for the mobile OS platforms people actually want? If in tandem
Microsoft was willing to let go of its sub-3% market share in mobile, it
could also have spent the cash it used to buy Nokia to build out its
cross-platform services offerings instead. We could have had a really
excellent desktop OS - worth paying for -

. Certainly Microsoft has woken up to providing competitive versions
of its applications on Android and iOS. But imagine how much further along
it would have been if it had put real work into the effort starting years
ago. Perhaps we wouldn't have to use third-party utilities to sync our
information between Google and Outlook, for example. Or OneNote might have
supported syncing on Android during the first several years it was
available, instead of only recently. Pick any Microsoft desktop technology
you access from your iOS or Android device and you can come up with a list
of features that would make it much more useful.

. It's not like there isn't anything to fix in Windows

. Anyone who thinks Microsoft didn't focus on desktop users as it
evolved Windows 8 and 10 because its desktop OS has "no need for
improvement" hasn't spent enough time wrestling with the inscrutable hex
error codes from Windows Update, or debugging driver version mismatches, or
finding information they're sure is somewhere on their disk. While Windows
10 isn't final, judging by the builds so far, all of those problems are
still there. Even support for high-resolution displays is still spotty.
Windows 10 adds some new Zoom options, but there is still no serious
scalable-font solution that works across the full range of possible
displays.

. As a good example of how this alternate direction would have
worked, let's look at the Control Panel. No one doubts that it is an old,
crufty system for managing a computer. A desktop-focused OS project would

see any "old Windows updates" item, but if I tab once beyond this list
to "view files"

additional items that did not appear in the first list, like service

and Pam's question was is, it, safe, to cleanup (delete) old windows

Hello Kimber,

Below are steps for controlling the quick access toolbar in Word 2013.
First though, use Alt with the numbers to launch the particular item on the
QAT and not CTRL.

1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. In the list of categories press Q or use down arrow to the quick access
toolbar category.
3. Tab to the list of the groups of commands to choose from or press the
first letter. If you want to choose from all commands then press A.
4. Tab to the list of commands in the group you chose and either use down
arrow key or first letter navigation to get to the command you want.
5. Tab to the add button and use spacebar.
6. Tab past the remove button and make sure in the next box you select the
command to be used in all documents.
7. Tab again and you find the list of commands that have been added to the
toolbar. If you select one by using up or down arrow key until focus is on
the command you can tab a few times and use the move up or move down buttons
to adjust their position in the list. Of course, if the command is at the
top of the list already there will only be a move down button and if it is

Re: [JAWS-Users] PDF

2015-06-11 Thread Shai
Hello,
Are you sure that the pdf is being processed? I have noticed that
sometimes when I press enter on a link or open a pdf file that JAWS
will state pdf is being processed when I have the pc cursor active but
when I route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor and press the up and
down arrows that the accessibility options will appear. I then have
to left mouse click to get these options to be in focus with the pc
cursor or I could left mouse click on either option while still
staying with the JAWS cursor.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and the QUBE

2015-06-11 Thread David Moore
Hi all! For some reason, I cannot get the Qube to send my message
when I press enter. When I press enter, it just goes to the next
line! I just noticed this behavior a few hours ago. I updated to
0.7.1, the very newest, but my messages still wil not send. Are there
any of you out there experiencing this same behavior and have you
heard what is wrong with the Qube all of a sudden? Thank you so much
for any info. My Cavs lost tonight, but I still wanted to tweet about
how Cleveland will come back and win game 5 aginst the Warriors. By
the way, I can receive tweets fine, I just can't send out my own
tweet, or I cannot reply to a tweet. Take care.
