I got it to work. I just did a force-restart after the battery drained
compleetly. First I plugged it in, I hit the power button. The fan came
on, but no signs of life. I did a force-shut down for 10 seconds. I had a
sighted person look at it. I hit the power botton and the person saw the
same windows didn't shut down correctly error. Jaws never speaks that and
they should fix that. So I hit controol-altogether-delete and it took me
to a page to open up. Hit the enter key, closed the page by hitting space.
Then it returned to the same error. Hit enter and the fan just came on.
Nothing else happened. Black screen. Then I did another force-restart and
hst enter to dismiss that error. The fan again came on and the screen was
finally at starting windows. Yes! I finally got it past the cooling fan
sound. - Original Message -

If you do need to replace the cooling fan which that might be the
issue
you might want to consider also buying a cooling fan tray. I
added one
of these devices to my laptop It uses a USB to turn the coolling
fan
tray on. Lastly, if you know you are not going to be using the
PC for a
while consider putting it to sleep. Just some ideas.

No, same computer, black screen, cooling fan on, frozen and
wont
wake up. The main operating system wont start, just the
computer. So basically I hold down the power butnon for 10
seconds. I hit the per button and nothing happens. A
sighted
person saw this error: Windows did not shut down correctly,
would you like to turn it on in safe mode? I hit the enter
key
on start windows normally. Then there is a blincking cursor,
and
stays there for 10 minutes. Then the screen goes black,
however
the cooling faar is steady and loud. Eghen hitting the power
button does nothing. So the main operating system doesn't
start.

[JAWS-Users] Vocalizer Expressive pitch change or possible issue?

2015-06-23 Thread Josh Eubank
Hi all,

The Vocalizer Expressive pitch now defaults to 100% and you can no
longer increase it. Go to the voices sub menu, and then find the
voice adjust combo box, and choose any of the cursors to adjust the
pitch of that particular cursor, and you will see what I mean. Just
wondered if any of you, or even maybe one of the people from FS who is
on the list, know if this is the new behavior for this synthesizer, or
could this be a possible issue? I just wondered, because you can still
increase the pitch, but only if you are using the Eloquence synthesizer.

 Thanks,

 Josh

use my computer mostly to send and receive emails and to read articles of
interest on the web. I go to websites through links in emails that I receive
to read articles and sign petitions. I listen to some videos from those
links and occasionally read PDF documents. I am using Outlook 2003 and Word

doing without learning a lot of new stuff? Is there any problem with reading
emails that come from websites and organizations with Jaws 16?

[JAWS-Users] questions about upgrading

2015-06-23 Thread Miriam Vieni
Hi,

I have been using Jaws 13. Because I'm retired and unskilled technically, I
use my computer mostly to send and receive emails and to read articles of
interest on the web. I go to websites through links in emails that I receive
to read articles and sign petitions. I listen to some videos from those
links and occasionally read PDF documents. I am using Outlook 2003 and Word
2003. If I upgrade to Jaws 16, will I still be able to do what I've been
doing without learning a lot of new stuff? Is there any problem with reading
emails that come from websites and organizations with Jaws 16?

Miriam

Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] Apps for Twitter and Facebook

2015-06-23 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
Okay, I'm using it with Win 7, so the issue may be that it does not
support windows 8, even though I know that there is a fairly recent
update. The developer of QWITTER developed a client called Chicken
Nugget that should work with Windows 8. Also, the official Twitter web
site has gone through a great deal of work to be more accessible. There
is also an accessible web interface offered through www.easychirp.org

[JAWS-Users] previous Jaws installation file?

2015-06-23 Thread Troy Burnham
Hi All,

Does anybody have a Jaws installation file that doesn't include the latest
upgrade? I installed the latest upgrade last night but I'm having trouble now
reading e-mail in outlook express, and I just called Freedom Scientific and
found out that the only way to roll back to a previous version is to have that
installation file but unfortunately I don't have that. I'm up-to-date on my
SMA's and I'm running Jaws 16, but I didn't receive a cd with Jaws 16 on it for
some reason.

Nice one, it does sound as if it has an over heating issue
though, give it a try and see what happens but make sure you take
a backup if you have the chance and make sure that you give it

I got it to work. I just did a force-restart after the battery
drained compleetly. First I plugged it in, I hit the power
button. The fan came on, but no signs of life. I did a
force-shut down for 10 seconds. I had a sighted person look at
it. I hit the power botton and the person saw the same windows
didn't shut down correctly error. Jaws never speaks that and
they should fix that. So I hit controol-altogether-delete and it
took me to a page to open up. Hit the enter key, closed the page
by hitting space. Then it returned to the same error. Hit enter
and the fan just came on. Nothing else happened. Black screen.
Then I did another force-restart and hst enter to dismiss that
error. The fan again came on and the screen was finally at
starting windows. Yes! I finally got it past the cooling fan
sound. - Original Message -

If you do need to replace the cooling fan which that might be the
issue you might want to consider also buying a cooling fan tray.
I added one of these devices to my laptop It uses a USB to turn
the coolling fan tray on. Lastly, if you know you are not going
to be using the PC for a while consider putting it to sleep.
Just some ideas.

I understand that Microsoft will be replacing Media Center, but only to a
limited extent. There will be some sort of DVD playing program included in
Windows 10. I haven't heard of any other truly accessible programs for
watching tv and recording programs though. Perhaps when Windows 10 comes out
tv card makers will be forced to make their native software more user

1. Open preferences from the Google page.

You will be on the search settings tab. The list will look kind of like this:

SafeSearch filters
SafeSearch
can help you block inappropriate or explicit images from your Google Search
results. The SafeSearch filter isn't 100% accurate, but it helps you avoid
most violent and adult content.
Turn on SafeSearch.
Turn on SafeSearch.
Lock SafeSearch

Google Instant predictions
When should we show you

Only when my computer is fast enough.
Always show Instant results.
Never show Instant results.

Open each selected result in a new browser window.
Open each selected result in a new browser window.

Search history
When signed in, you can receive more relevant results and recommendations based

2. Below the search settings you will see other tabs that you don't want right
now: i.e. Search results, Languages, Location, Help.

3. The first thing is Safe Filter results which you can check if you don't
want explicit or violent sites.

4. The next thing is instant predictions. Here, to turn them off, you want
the third radio button.

5. If you want to change the results per pade, you can do so with the slider.
It is a bit challenging to adjust with a screen reader, but it can be managed.

Finally, when you have things set up the way you want, click the Save button.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Hi all,

The Vocalizer Expressive pitch now defaults to 100% and you can no longer
increase it. Go to the voices sub menu, and then find the voice adjust
combo box, and choose any of the cursors to adjust the pitch of that
particular cursor, and you will see what I mean. Just wondered if any of
you, or even maybe one of the people from FS who is on the list, know if
this is the new behavior for this synthesizer, or could this be a possible
issue? I just wondered, because you can still increase the pitch, but only
if you are using the Eloquence synthesizer.

 Thanks,

 Josh

As I understand it, there is soon to be an update of JAWS that will. I am
waiting until JAWS 17 comes out this fall, then plan to get 10 and 17. But

  1. Open preferences from the Google page.

You will be on the search settings tab. The list will look kind of like this:

  Search Settings

  Search results

  Help

  SafeSearch filters
  SafeSearch

results. The SafeSearch filter isn't 100% accurate, but it helps you avoid
  most violent and adult content.
  Turn on SafeSearch.
  Turn on SafeSearch.
  Lock SafeSearch

  Google Instant predictions
  When should we show you

Only when my computer is fast enough.
  Always show Instant results.
  Never show Instant results.

  2. Below the search settings you will see other tabs that you don't want
right now: i.e. Search results, Languages, Location, Help.

  3. The first thing is Safe Filter results which you can check if you don't
want explicit or violent sites.

  4. The next thing is instant predictions. Here, to turn them off, you want
the third radio button.

  5. If you want to change the results per pade, you can do so with the
slider. It is a bit challenging to adjust with a screen reader, but it can be
managed.

Finally, when you have things set up the way you want, click the Save button.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

You are not the only one experiencing this issue. Google users on other
lists have also reported this error. Apparently, Google is no longer
supporting the accessible search site, so you may want to consider
  adifferent search enginelike startpage.com:

Re: [JAWS-Users] Hi- upgrading

2015-06-23 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Yes, Microsoft has stopped supporting XP. I can't update Internet Explorer,
because of that, and when I got Outlook Express, because this bigger one had
Office 2010 on it, the two did not recognize one another, Outlook Express
also being extinct. So our computer guy had to tell us where we could
download a Spell Check that would work in Outlook Express, and the crazy
thing didn't know that Barrack and Obama were spelled correctly, had to add
them to dictonary.

home up to the beginning of a message in Outlook Express:

Edit mhtml:{4383C9D8-43B0-4FDF-9351-F21AA1964515}mid://0014/

It also speaks when I first tab to the message body from the subject line.
This did not happen with the previous JFW 16.0 build, and I checked with JFW
15 and it does not happen.

This string is different for each message created whether new from scratch,

No, same computer, black screen, cooling fan on, frozen and wont wake up.
The main operating system wont start, just the computer. So basically I
hold down the power butnon for 10 seconds. I hit the per button and
nothing happens. A sighted person saw this error: Windows did not shut
down correctly, would you like to turn it on in safe mode? I hit the
enter key on start windows normally. Then there is a blincking cursor,
and stays there for 10 minutes. Then the screen goes black, however the
cooling faar is steady and loud. Eghen hitting the power button does
nothing. So the main operating system doesn't start.

Re: [JAWS-Users] computer wont wake up, cooling fan on

2015-06-23 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Nice one, it does sound as if it has an over heating issue though, give it a
try and see what happens but make sure you take a backup if you have the chance
and make sure that you give it plenty of ventilation around the fan grill.

I got it to work. I just did a force-restart after the battery drained
compleetly. First I plugged it in, I hit the power button. The fan came on,
but no signs of life. I did a force-shut down for 10 seconds. I had a sighted
person look at it. I hit the power botton and the person saw the same windows
didn't shut down correctly error. Jaws never speaks that and they should fix
that. So I hit controol-altogether-delete and it took me to a page to open up.
Hit the enter key, closed the page by hitting space. Then it returned to the
same error. Hit enter and the fan just came on. Nothing else happened. Black
screen.
Then I did another force-restart and hst enter to dismiss that error. The fan
again came on and the screen was finally at starting windows. Yes! I finally
got it past the cooling fan sound. - Original Message -

If you do need to replace the cooling fan which that might be the issue you
might want to consider also buying a cooling fan tray. I added one of these
devices to my laptop It uses a USB to turn the coolling fan tray on. Lastly,
if you know you are not going to be using the PC for a while consider putting

Actually we haven't loosened up the rules. The thing is once in a while this
thread does talk about the system when it is up and running and then
sometimes it doesn't. There for parts of the thread are all right and parts
are not. With well over 100 emails coming across my desk every day sometimes
they tend to get a little fuzzy a bit. You have a good point never the less,
so let's shutdown this thread please folks.

[JAWS-Users] This Did Not Happen With the Previous JFW 16.0 build

2015-06-23 Thread Dave Carlson
After I installed the latest JFW 16.0.3048 I hear a string like this when I
home up to the beginning of a message in Outlook Express:

Edit mhtml:{4383C9D8-43B0-4FDF-9351-F21AA1964515}mid://0014/

It also speaks when I first tab to the message body from the subject line.
This did not happen with the previous JFW 16.0 build, and I checked with JFW
15 and it does not happen.

This string is different for each message created whether new from scratch,
or as a reply.

Any one else hearing something like this if you use OE in Windows 7?

the check your PC on a Windows 7 PC. Besides telling me that some older
versions of JAWS that are installed might not run under Windows 10, it told
me that Windows Media Center would be uninstalled and that it could not be
reinstalled in Windows 10. I have used Windows Media center with a TV card
on my computer to watch and record live TV for quite a while. So does
anyone know of another program that can be used to watch and/or record live
TV shows in Windows 10? Hopefully, there is an alternative that is more
JAWS friendly than Windows Media center, or at least as accessible with JAWS
as Windows Media center is, which is not much

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi again friends,

I have installed Windows 8 Professional now and was very disappointed to find
that it doesn't seem to come with Windows Media Centre.
I checked on the web initially and it seems that you have to purchase this on
line, as an add on, has anyone been through this process that could give me
some guidance?
I am just wondering that once you have made the purchase, what happens if you
have to re-build your machine, do you have to purchase Media Centre again?
I have not yet activated the Windows 8 as I am still trying to decide on
whether I will keep it or go back to Windows 7 but I would like to try to get

Hi again friends,

I have installed Windows 8 Professional now and was very disappointed to find
that it doesn't seem to come with Windows Media Centre.
I checked on the web initially and it seems that you have to purchase this on
line, as an add on, has anyone been through this process that could give me
some guidance?
I am just wondering that once you have made the purchase, what happens if you
have to re-build your machine, do you have to purchase Media Centre again?
I have not yet activated the Windows 8 as I am still trying to decide on
whether I will keep it or go back to Windows 7 but I would like to try to get
used to it.

[JAWS-Users] window 10

2015-06-23 Thread Holger Fiallo
For those who are planning to get window 10, jaws 16 is a must. The new
podcast from FS, mention that any old jaws need to be remove to before
installing 10. FS will create a link so people can go and make sure
everything is remove from any old jaws version. The new Edge will not work with
jaws 16 so they suggest that you go to default program and setup IE as
default after installing 10.

Hi

When the get windows 10 thing finally showed up in my system tray, I ran
the check your PC on a Windows 7 PC.

Thanks a lot, David for telling us your experiences. So far, I have
OneDrive and DropBox. I will now check out a drive and send space! I did
not know there were so many of these services!
Take care, David

As has been mentioned on this and other lists repeatedly, as of
now no, but
FS is working on making JFW 16 compatible and 17 will be.

Hi All,

Does anybody have a Jaws installation file that doesn't include the
latest
upgrade? I installed the latest upgrade last night but I'm having
trouble

now reading e-mail in outlook express, and I just called Freedom
Scientific
and found out that the only way to roll back to a previous version is to
have that installation file but unfortunately I don't have that. I'm
up-to-date on my SMA's and I'm running Jaws 16, but I didn't receive a cd
with Jaws 16 on it for some reason.

Troy
