Any Help from you or anyone else would be vastly appreciated.

Hi leonard and all.
Thanks for the info on getting an icon of OneDrive to show up on my desktop.
I did some research on Google last night, and this might be useful for those
with Windows 8.1. Here is what I found.
I found an article that says that OneDrive is preinstalled on Windows
8.1 and there is no desktop program to download for Windows 8.1, because it
is preinstalled. You have to go to files explorer, and there is a folder
there called OneDrive. You put all of your material in that folder, and you
can even save your documents straight to that place on your computer. With
Windows 8.1, it is as though OneDrive is another drive built right into your
computer. You can manage your stuff from this OneDrive in files explorer
just like on your C-drive.
Just thought I would let you know what I found out about that. Take care
all and have a great day.

JAWS to start

[JAWS-Users] using an alternate voice during say all

2015-06-30 Thread Jason Smith
Hi list, I am using Jaws16 on a Windows7 desktop. I downloaded one of
the premium voices from the FS website. However, I am having trouble
working out how to use the voice when doing a say all command in Jaws.
I have tried the learning tutorials for Jaws, but not had any luck. I
remember getting it to work a few years ago with an earlier version of
Jaws. But don't seem to be able to work it out now. There also used to
be a command, so you could switch between using the higher quality
voice and using eloquence. Is that still possible?
Thanks Jason

It's called marketing. The best way to replace a producrt is to take it off

That is what I am thinking that will eventually happen - Microsoft not

Then the time will come that they'll want to dump 10. No telling what we'll

Not much to write down just good guidelines and you won't have much to
remember. The new inter browser wont't work with jaws write away so it
might be better to wait a little while before upgrading to windows 10. Also
you might need sighted help when it is done upgrading to windows. Jaws

That is what I am thinking that will eventually happen - Microsoft not
supporting Windows 7 and then 8.

Then the time will come that they'll want to dump 10. No telling what we'll
have by that time.

Responding off list means to respond only to the one who sent the e-mail
being answered, so that the message sent goes to the sender of that e-mail,
but not to the rest of the list. If I hit Insert, Shift R, Jaws tells me
that I am sending directly to the sender.

Have you checked to see that your computer's sound is not muted? There
should be a set of 3 keys on the F key row: one for muting and unmuting the

[JAWS-Users] restoring a computer is not totally clean

2015-06-30 Thread Lenny McHugh
This is interesting. My grandson’s computer had some problems and Microsoft
support rolled it back to factory then reinstalled windows 8.1. I have it at
a computer shop because he needed a better video card and power supply for
that card. Now his Steam games will not run. The shop just called after a
day trying to play the games and looking for the reason for the crashes it
is because of the roll back. Here the registry is not completely replaced as
well as the install of windows 8.1. Now there are old and new registry
entries for the game Steam. In order to fix it they have to wipe the hd
clean and do a complete new install of windows.
I hope that his girl friend’s computer will still run Steam after I did the
roll back and install of windows 8.1.

Hi,

How do you make excel read columns as you navigate through them.
What I mean is if I'm keeping score during a game, how do I make it
read the names when I scroll down the individual columns? What's the
keystroke for that? I have excel 2013 and a windows 8.1 machine
running jaws 16.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Office 2013 help needed

2015-06-30 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Cuong,

If you are just finding a word and not replacing it then you can use shift
with F6 to move to the document pane, use Alt with delete key to get your
position, and then use F6 to move back to the navigation pane. Press
spacebar on the Find Next button, use shift key with F6 and read the
position with Alt and delete. You don't have to keep jumping between the
panes using shift with F6 to move to the document and F6 to move back to the
navigation pane. Once you find an occurrence of what you are finding and
move to the document pane you can just use CTRL with page down to find the
next occurrence or CTRL with page up to find a previous occurrence and check
position with the Alt and delete key.

If you are wanting to use "replace" option but not the "replace all" choice
then you first use CTRL with H to move to the page of the dialog where you
can do replacements. It is a good idea to start at the top of the document
first. After typing in what you want to find and what you want it replaced
with you can use Alt with F to activate the Find Next button. Press escape,
use Alt+Delete to get position, and then use CTRL with H again and use the
Alt+R to do the replacing. You can then use escape key, find position using
alt with delete, use CTRL with H followed by Alt with R to replace it or alt
with F to find the next occurrence.

In Word 2013 there doesn't seem to be a way to switch between the navigation
pane and the document pane the say you can if just finding something. Also,
in the dialog box the Alt+delete only gives pixel position for the control
in focus so you have to be in the navigation pane to get the position of
something using Alt key with delete key.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] using an alternate voice during say all

Hi

The option for using an alternative voice for say all disappeared somewhere
in JAWS 15. However, you can manually change to an alternative voice by
pressing JAWSkey+s and choosing the voice profile you want before doing the

Hi list, I am using Jaws16 on a Windows7 desktop. I downloaded one of the
premium voices from the FS website. However, I am having trouble working out
how to use the voice when doing a say all command in Jaws.
I have tried the learning tutorials for Jaws, but not had any luck. I
remember getting it to work a few years ago with an earlier version of Jaws.
But don't seem to be able to work it out now. There also used to be a
command, so you could switch between using the higher quality voice and
using eloquence. Is that still possible?
Thanks Jason

Re: [JAWS-Users] using an alternate voice during say all

2015-06-30 Thread John Justice
As Mike has already noted, Say All was abandoned. Personally, I wish it was
still available for the very reasons you pointed out. Below, you will find
some suggestions and detailed instructions.

First of all, the premium voice you downloaded is still there. However, it
is listed under a different synthesizer. If you downloaded the voice from
the Freedom Scientific web site, it is listed under the Vocalizer Expressive
synthesizer. You can, as Mike mentioned, change to that voice by choosing
it from the list.

1. While focused on the application you want to use, press INSERT+CONTROL+S

2. This command opens a list of voice profiles. The one you want is
Vocalizer Expressive
3. After choosing the profile, tab to Okay and press Enter

Now, if you would like that voice to be called up automatically when you
switch to that application, you can do that. Here's an example of what I
mean. If you are using Microsoft Word and you would like Ava Premium to do
all of the reading in that environment, follow the steps below.

1. Press INSERT+J to open the Jaws interface
2. Choose the Options menu by typing ALT+O
3. Choose the Voice menu
4. Locate and press Enter on the Voice Adjustment option
5. Tab to the Profile list and choose Vocalizer Expressive
6. Tab past the Delete Profile and Language options
7. Tab to the Adjust Voice dialog and leave it set on All Contexts
8. Tab through the settings and adjust the voice to suit your personal needs
9. There are a couple of settings referring to Spell Rate and Upper Case
Pitch. Avoid those
10. Tab to the Save As option and press Enter.

Here, you can choose a different name for the profile and save the settings
you have made. I usually create a profile named after the application I'm
using. For example, in this scenario, I'd choose Microsoft Word. Type that
in and press Enter.
1. Now open Microsoft Word or whatever word processor you are using
2. Press INSERT+CONTROL+S. Use your up and down arrows to choose your new
profile
3. Note: There is an option to use your new profile as the Default. Don't
do that unless you want that same voice used in every application or
environment
4. After making your choice, tab to an option which asks you what profile is
to be used for the word processor
5. Place focus on the new profile you have created
6. Tab to Okay and press Enter

>From this point on, every time you open that application, the correct
profile will be automatically chosen.
There is an advantage to making a profile change on the fly. The change is
temporary. You can choose another voice to edit the document. If you exit
and reopen the application, the program will be loaded with the Default
profile.

I hope that this helps.

Really, I tried to figure out the first command:

In this laptop there is no single + key, unless I press the shift key to

So, how are you performing this command?

So the alt would work in facebook?

I'll save the command you posted, just in case???

Hi

I seem to remember Jaws reading the sequencial hot keys that office started
to use I believe in 2007 version. You would find file save as and jaws would
say alt followed by F A. It doesn't do that any more so I wanted to know if
this is something with office 2013 or if there's a setting I can change that
will make Jaws tell me these key tips.

Re: [JAWS-Users] putting in headings

2015-06-30 Thread Pablocm 2014
HI,
If you press control + alt + 1, you will create a heading level 1, and
so on, until heading level 3. Now if you want to create more levels of
headings, then you can modify it like this.

been on a heading, press alt + shift right arrow, then you will be
increasing the level of the heading, you can go forward until heading
level 9.
Now, remember that heading level 1 is the most important thing in that
document, and a heading level 9 is going to looks smaller, and it
visually looks less important.
Now, if you are working on Microsoft Outlook, you don't need to write
the email on word, you can use the same keystrokes on Outlook, and it
will work fine.

Since Excel always reads the contents of a cell when arrowing down I assume
you want to set up your Excel schedule to read row titles and column titles
as you arrow around. Try the below. It takes a little practice to set up
your work sheet. Once you have figured it out you can save it that way and
then just change the names from time-to-time.

How do you make Excel 2013 read the names of columns when you're navigating
it?

What I mean is say you're keeping score for a game and you want to
navigate down the columns to see what each person has. What's the
keystroke you press to make the names be read as you navigate down the
column.

Responding off list means to respond only to the one who sent the e-mail
being answered, so that the message sent goes to the sender of that e-mail,
but not to the rest of the list. If I hit Insert, Shift R, Jaws tells me
that I am sending directly to the sender.

That is cool. I didn't know you could do that, but tried it, and it removed
the JAWS list address. So I put in another one that came up on auto
complete.

Hi,
This is another way to reply back,

I don't know, if your doing it like this?

Press control + R,
Shift tab back to the to field.

Erase the address with the back space.

Type in the new address and continue.

Let me know, if it works.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about Excel and JAWS

2015-06-30 Thread Jim Pursley
You can make JAWS read column, row heads or both. The following works
in Win7 and Excel 2013. Try it.
Put the PC cursor (I don't know if the JAWS cursor works here) in the
left most column cell and the top most row cell.

Insert v gets you to JAWS quick settings.
Arrow down, keeping the excel choice open.
To save time close all files you pass until you reach Workbook,
Worksheet and Region settings. Open it.

Pass a couple of choices until you reach Title Reading
Arrow down until you find Define name, column and row titles. Select On
for the current file.
Now arrow down a couple of choices to Title Detection. You can choose
rows, columns or both.

arrow down another line or two and spacebar until you hear OK.

Now go to your worksheet and your secondary reading voice will read the
titles for you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] using an alternate voice during say all

2015-06-30 Thread leonard morris
Sorry for not reading the entire thread regarding this issue before I
replied.

On 7/1/2015 2:24 AM, John Justice wrote:

The option for using an alternative voice for say all disappeared somewhere
in JAWS 15. However, you can manually change to an alternative voice by

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about Excel and JAWS

2015-06-30 Thread Michael Boyd
That key stroke would be: Insert + Control + Alt+ C. If your column headings
are in row 2, then you will want to have cel A2 highlighted when you perform
this key stroke. II f you wanted to hear the rows announced as you scroll
through the spreadsheet, then the letter C in the above string would be
replaced by an R.

Take care.

Hello Jorge,

It sounds like you have another method. However, Alt+delete key in a Word
document gives you the position of the cursor in the document. It does not
take you to the next occurrence of what you are finding. If I am using the
Find command I find it easier to press escape and immediately read the
cursor position. I can then go to the next occurrence using CTRL with page
down or the previous occurrence using CTRL with page up. However, if a
person would rather keep the Find page of the dialog open then using Shift
with f6 brings focus to the document from the navigation pane where the
cursor position can be checked, and F6 puts focus back in the Find page of
the dialog on the Find Next button. Again I prefer doing a find, pressing
escape
and then using CTRL with page down or CTRL with page up to move to next or
previous results respectively.

Cuong asked how he could use JAWS to read cursor position while in the Find
and Replace dialog. I find the quickest way is to use escape key after you
find an occurrence and you can immediately use Alt with delete to get the
cursor position.

Take care.
