no,
There should check somethink like this file: vfsxxx.dll and the version
should be newer, but can't find the file at this time and the mail from FS.
It has happened to me, when I installed to the windows 7. jf 14, because
some component wasn't updated. The same happened as well in win 8.x.
If you will wait till tommorow, I will try find in the old archive the mail
from FS.

Hello. I am replying to the message about whether Windows 8.1 is
harder to use than Windows 7. I really think that Windows 8.1, make
sure you have 8.1, is much easier to use than Windows 7. Here are
some reasons why. There are many more search edit boxes where you can
put a few words in and find what you want. You don't have to go
through all of the drives and folders to find things. Also, the
desktop is exactly the same as Windows 7. Also, there is a setting
that you can easily find that will put the computer on the desktop by
default when the computer is first turned on. The files explorer is
much easier to use, because you look for this PC in the tree view,
and everything you need is right under that, like documents, music,
and so on. There is a search field in the control panel. You don't
have to look for anything in the control panel. You can go to the
control panel and put a few words in the search and find what you are
looking for in the search results. The start screen is much better,
because there are all kinds of apps on there that you can use with
JAWS. Starting with JAWS 15, the touch cursor is available which
simulates touching the screen by using the keyboard. Also, I have had
no better security than I have experienced with 8.1. It is much
faster. Also, there many more windows key commands which can get you
to where you want to go much faster. I really suggest 8.1 over
Windows 7 any day. Go and get it now.

John,
I completely agree with you. I have always recommended to my clients (both
sighted and blind) that they wait at least until service pack one is
released for any new operating system or major software package. It blows
me
away how many people want to jump right in to a new operating system (be
it

Microsoft or Apple) on the first day that it is released. And then for
months, they bombard the lists with complaints about things not working as
they expected. As I have said for more years than I care to mention, if it
is doing the job that needs to be done, leave it alone.
That is why I am still using Jaws 14 on my main desktop, even though I
have

the SMA to upgrade it. I did not like some of the issues I found with Jaws
15 and 16, and 14 is working just fine for me.
Also, there are plenty of high-end Windows 7 laptops and desktops
available

from sources such as NewEgg and eBay, that can be purchased for a fraction
of their original price. I recently purchased two beautiful Lenovo
Thinkpads, for about 15% of what they sold for new just three years ago.

The opinions expressed in this document are my own and do not necessarily
reflect those of Freedom Scientific or the list management.

After reading The FS-Cast podcast and studying other informatory
resources,
I have reached the conclusion that Windows 10, at least in its original
form, is not a good choice for those who use screen readers. Please
note.
Windows 10 is still a work in progress. Freedom Scientific will
certainly

keep tabs on things as they develop and make the necessary changes.

THE EDGE WEB BROWSER:

Microsoft has already made massive changes in this new web browser and
they
admit that it is not as good as was hoped. The software was designed
like
Firefox and Google Chrome but it doesn't function nearly as well as
either

of those programs. Unfortunately, it does not work well at all with
screen
readers. The Windows 10, scheduled for a release on July 29, is
definitely
not a comfortable fit for Jaws.

THE NEW WINDOWS 10 CONFIGURATION:

Microsoft has heard us and is trying to bring back the older
configurations
like Windows XP and Windows 7. According to an article published by
Microsoft, their attempt to design a Start menu which worked well with
smart
phones and IPads, resulted in numerous complaints from PC users. The
version of Windows 10 scheduled for release can give you a taste of what
is
coming but that too is currently in a fluid state. I asked a Microsoft
representative why they are sending out a product which is still
imperfect

customers at home with this new software. Some will buy it because it is
new. Our free upgrade will add many more customers to our list. What
we're
trying to do is get away from 8.1. We have had so many problems with
that
version of Windows. We almost had to do this to keep from losing too
many

retail customers to the Apple software. People like you and other
customers who use screen readers or magnification are a tiny minority
when

compared to the rest of our customer base. That doesn't mean we won't
work
to fix these issues but we won't be able to do it right away.

I asked him how we should proceed in the meantime. His suggestion was to
maintain our current versions of Windows or, ideally, load Windows 10 but
change the Default browser to Internet Explorer, still available in this
new
release.

Windows 10 is currently being tested by Freedom Scientific and this
latest

Jaws update has indeed addressed some of the problems. However, many
issues
still exist. To quote Jonathan Mosen, If you enjoy

Re: [JAWS-Users] Copy attachment

2015-07-13 Thread John Justice
Hi D J,
Karen gave you one way to do it. In my opinion, this one is a bit more
navigable for someone who isn't familiar with the process.

1. Press ALT+F to open the File menu
2. Tab down to the Save Attachments dialog and press enter
3. Locate the Okay button and press Enter again
Note: You have now isolated the attachment.
4. If you press Enter on the Save button, Windows will save the attachment
to the default location, usually Documents
5. To specify a saved location, tab over to the folder tree and locate the
one you want it placed in
6. Back space to the Save button and press Enter.

That seems more complicated but it is easier to work with. I have found
that Karen's method sometimes works while at other times, for whatever
reason, the attachment file doesn't show.

THE EDGE WEB BROWSER:

Microsoft has already made massive changes in this new web browser and they
admit that it is not as good as was hoped. The software was designed like
Firefox and Google Chrome but it doesn't function nearly as well as either
of those programs. Unfortunately, it does not work well at all with screen

not a comfortable fit for Jaws.

THE NEW WINDOWS 10 CONFIGURATION:

Microsoft has heard us and is trying to bring back the older configurations
like Windows XP and Windows 7. According to an article published by
Microsoft, their attempt to design a Start menu which worked well with smart
phones and IPads, resulted in numerous complaints from PC users. The
version of Windows 10 scheduled for release can give you a taste of what is
coming but that too is currently in a fluid state. I asked a Microsoft
representative why they are sending out a product which is still imperfect
or incomplete. His response was, Look, we're going to hit most of our
customers at home with this new software. Some will buy it because it is
new. Our free upgrade will add many more customers to our list. What we're
trying to do is get away from 8.1. We have had so many problems with that
version of Windows. We almost had to do this to keep from losing too many
retail customers to the Apple software. People like you and other
customers who use screen readers or magnification are a tiny minority when
compared to the rest of our customer base. That doesn't mean we won't work
to fix these issues but we won't be able to do it right away.

I asked him how we should proceed in the meantime. His suggestion was to
maintain our current versions of Windows or, ideally, load Windows 10 but
change the Default browser to Internet Explorer, still available in this new
release.

Windows 10 is currently being tested by Freedom Scientific and this latest
Jaws update has indeed addressed some of the problems. However, many issues
still exist. To quote Jonathan Mosen, If you enjoy experimenting with
software and trying to find ways to make it work, Windows 10 is going to
work for you. For those of us who use our computers to do work or reach
out to other people throughout the world, the last thing we need is a system
which might or might not work in any given situation.

Lenny,

I guess that I should never write an email when I am tired. About using the

be recognized for the recovery process?

John,
I completely agree with you. I have always recommended to my clients (both
sighted and blind) that they wait at least until service pack one is
released for any new operating system or major software package. It blows me
away how many people want to jump right in to a new operating system (be it
Microsoft or Apple) on the first day that it is released. And then for
months, they bombard the lists with complaints about things not working as
they expected. As I have said for more years than I care to mention, if it
is doing the job that needs to be done, leave it alone.
That is why I am still using Jaws 14 on my main desktop, even though I have
the SMA to upgrade it. I did not like some of the issues I found with Jaws
15 and 16, and 14 is working just fine for me.
Also, there are plenty of high-end Windows 7 laptops and desktops available
from sources such as NewEgg and eBay, that can be purchased for a fraction
of their original price. I recently purchased two beautiful Lenovo
Thinkpads, for about 15% of what they sold for new just three years ago.

Re: [JAWS-Users] WINDOWS 10, OBSERVATIONS AND ANALYSIS

2015-07-13 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Just about my plan. I think I am going to get IE loaded and Outlook. This
list has been a life saver to help me get some kind of understanding about
what I am facing and things to do about it - oh yes, Adobe, PDF and
Installer. I might have thought of Adobe and PDF, but for this list, I would
not have known about Installer, and I want to read my cousin's book, which
are available online. So I have compiled a list, which I adjust from time to
time. Then after the first of the year, I'll get JAWS 17, then trot myself
to the local computer builder, printed list in hand (punch sheet, as it
were), and have a little talk to see what we can do. I can always get a
computer from another supplier, if I can't get the help here that it appears
that I will get. One thing favorable is what my husband knows, and he'll be
with me, but thinks I need to get professionals to set things up to make
sure that JAWS is king, even though he did load JAWS on this rebuilt one,
which has done fine.

Remember, life is what you make it,

Carolyn
