[JAWS-Users] jaws 17 win 10 not starting automatically?

2015-10-30 Thread Adam Morris

Hi all,

have jaws 17 on two machines running win10.
Neither of them start jaws automatically.
I have to start it manually.
Have gone into settings and enabled jaws start at the logon screen and
start always for this user (which is admin on both machines).

Ideas?

[JAWS-Users] installed Jaws 17 but license not recognized

2015-10-30 Thread joanne
I have twice had to system restore because when attempting to install Jaws 17 I
am asked for my license code. Even if I switch to 16, something in the
installation of 17 seems to erase the license and the only way to use Jaws in
regular mode is to restore the system and use 16. I went to the page to
activate it and the page found it just fine. Then it gave me another code to
use, and not sure why this other code was given but I tried activating my
license pasting the original key and also trying this generated one but it
keeps giving an error message that it doesn't recognize the code. Now the
generated code is 3 lines long and I don't know if the words at the end are
necessary--like version 00, etc. I don't know why the FS page recognizes it
but neither code will work when Jaws tells me I need to type in my key. Is
there something I can do that's not being done so I can use 17 in regular and
not 40-minute mode?

Thanks for assistance.

Not only is it wrong for MS to force Windows 10 or any other OS , for that
matter, on its customers, just think of the nightmarish scenarios that would
confront those JAWS users who accidently or otherwise inadvertently updated to
Windows 10, but were still running versions of JAWS earlier than JAWS 16.
It could be a real mess.

[JAWS-Users] A couple of questions about setting up a page in Facebook using JAWS 16 or 17

2015-10-30 Thread Christopher Sabine, ONH Consulting
Hello all. I am in the process of setting up a Facebook page for a group I'm
involved in and have a couple of questions. Is it possible to accessibly
invite friends to like my page? I know you could do this under JAWS 15, but
the tab doesn't seem to be accessible with JAWS 16 or 17 using either
Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 11. Also-I need to change the mailing
address on the page; this seems to be a clickable element under Page Info
that won't activate properly. Again, this is under JAWS 16 latest build as
well as JAWS 17 with IE and Firefox. I know Freedom Scientific did a Webinar
on JAWS 16 with Facebook, so maybe I need to buy and review that before
posting to the list.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Beware! Microsoft Plans to Push Windows 10 OnEvenMore Windows 7 and 8 Systems

2015-10-30 Thread Holger Fiallo
So far I still have w7, 64. I am planning to get it in April or May. I
figure by them most bugs will be taking care. Also by them I am planning to
get jaws 17. I heard there will be a update for w10 in November that will
fix some of the problems that those who have w10 are dealing. So I am using
all of you as test subjects.

Not only is it wrong for MS to force Windows 10 or any other OS , for that
matter, on its customers, just think of the nightmarish scenarios that would
confront those JAWS users who accidently or otherwise inadvertently updated
to Windows 10, but were still running versions of JAWS earlier than JAWS 16.

It could be a real mess.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Beware! Microsoft Plans to Push Windows 10 On EvenMore Windows 7 and 8 Systems

2015-10-30 Thread Gerald Levy

Not only is it wrong for MS to force Windows 10 or any other OS , for that
matter, on its customers, just think of the nightmarish scenarios that would
confront those JAWS users who accidently or otherwise inadvertently updated
to Windows 10, but were still running versions of JAWS earlier than JAWS 16.
It could be a real mess.

[JAWS-Users] Customizing the Start area in Windows 10 TXT

2015-10-30 Thread jim
Hi Jaws users list.
Here is my latest guide on Windows 10.
I will send David a zipped copy to post if he wishes.
Customizing the Start Area in W-10.

This Tutorial is the property of the Windows 10 and Jaws Yahoo group, Anyone
can freely distribute this free Tutorial to all interested Blind computer users.

Overview.

1. ***Personalizing the Start Area in W-10.

2. ***The All Apps region in the Start area of W-10.

3. ***The Power button in the Start area of W-10.

***Means, Main Heading.

*Means, Sub category.

**Means, Tips and Reminders.

1. ***Personalizing the Start Area in W-10.

Press the Window key to open or close the Start area.

Just press the Windows key or press Enter on the Start button to get to the
Start area of W-10.

The Start area in W-10 is divided into two sections, the Left side and Right
side.

For users of Screen Readers, the top or the bottom of the Search edit box.

So, the left side or the top, of the Start area cannot be changed.

This upper part of the Start area, contains, the All Apps and the Power button.

The Right side, or Bottom side of the Start area, is totally customizable to
you.

If you press the Spacebar on the Toggle navigation menu, located below the
Search edit box.

You will hear, Account picture for, followed by your name, button.

Pressing the Application key on your Account picture icon here will bring up a
Context menu of the following items, Change Account settings, Lock, or Sign out.

Now, when you down arrow from your Account picture, you will see different
items.

This depends on what buttons you have checked, or what folders, you have
checked in the Settings, Personalization, Start, in the settings area of w-10.

Let’s go take a look at the options for the Start area in W-10.

1. Press Windows key+I, Open settings.

2. Right arrow to, Personalization, press Enter.

3. Arrow down to, Start, press Enter.

4. Tab to, Occasionally show suggestions in Start button, press the Spacebar to
check or uncheck.

This means Microsoft can give you suggestions for Apps and other stuff.

5. Tab to, Show most used Apps button, Check or uncheck.

This will show your most used Apps, in the start area if this is checked.

6. Tab to, Show recently added Apps button, Checked or unchecked.

Any Apps you have downloaded lately, will show up at the top of the All Apps
list, if this is checked.

7. Tab to, Use Start full screen, Checked or unchecked.

This will make your Start screen look like w-8.1, good if you have a little
vision.

8. Tab to, Show recently opened items in jump list on Start or the Taskbar
button, Checked or unchecked.

9. Tab to, Choose what folders appear on Start Link, press Enter.

Tab across here, press the Spacebar to check the folders you wish to show on
Start.

This is a list of your choices, File Explorer, Settings, Documents, Downloads,
Music, Pictures, Videos, Home group, Network, and Personal folder.

Check each folder, that you wish to appear in the Start area.

They will appear under, Places list box.

If you choose, Personal folder, This is a shortcut to, all your user folders,
very handy and quit way to go to all your personal folders.

For example, my Start area looks like, this:

Search edit box.

Account picture button.

Places list box, Documents, one of three, shortcut.

Downloads, shortcut.

Personal folder, shortcut.

*Wrapping back to top.

Power button.

All Apps button.

Search edit box.

Press the Right arrow, from Account button.

Start Apps list box, News group header list box.

To the right of News, Weather group header list box.

Below Weather header list box, is my local Weather live tile.

Below my News, group header list box.

My News, live tile.

Below this is, Sports group header list box.

Watch ESPN live tile.

Sports, live tile.

Watch NFL, live tile.

So, think of these as left and right.

On the Left, I have:

Search edit box.

Account button

Documents.

Downloads.

Personal folder.

*Wrapping around.

Power button.

All Apps button.

On the right, I have:

News group, Right of that Weather group.

Below News group, my Sports group.

So, in all my Group headings, I have a total of five live tiles.

Pressing the Application key on just about any program or App, will give you
the option to pin to Start.

So, Programs or Apps that you pin to Start, will show up with your live tiles
on the Right side.

You can totally personalize your Start area, from the live tiles, to the
folders, and the pinning of Programs and Apps.

You can even change the name of the group headers, to match your interests.

*How to change the name of Group Header list boxes in the Live Tile Region.

1. Press the Windows key.

2. Down arrow to

2015-10-30 Thread jim rawls
Hi all,

I had to reinstall outlook 2010 to my computer. HOW do I bring over my contacts?
Secondly, if I am in an open message, how to I add that new single contact to my
contacts in outlook 2010? I am running windows 8.1 and jaws 17. Thanks for your
help. Jim

Re: [JAWS-Users] Switching Accounts in Outlook 07

2015-10-30 Thread david
hello; try the following;

1, control panel,

2, m=mail 32bit link press enter,

3, now press the tab key until you hear;
show all profiles press enter,

now tab you should hear something like,
always use this profile,
now if you up arrow you will hear, prompt me,
so, if you choose this item,
each time you open outlook, you will be asked which profile you wish to
access.
this way you will be able to access a particular account.
hope this helps.

Why don't you try windows live mail 2012?
With this client you can add as many as email accounts as you want.
The most important thing that it is as simple as MS Outlook 2003.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Enhancements in official release of JAWS 17

2015-10-30 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

Although there's a lot new in JAWS 17, the version number of 17.0.1010 for
the full version of JAWS 17 indicates that there were only 2 changes in this
version that were not in the last beta release of 17.0.1008. I would guess
that these 2 changes were to remove the word beta.

2015-10-30 Thread Steve
Please put your replies above your signature, Nicole, maybe more people will

In Outlook 2007, you can't create two profiles using the same email server.
With Outlook closed, though, you can go to your mail settings in Control Panel.
Tell it you want to choose which profile to use, and hit OK.

Now, when you re-open Outlook 2007, you can choose which mailbox you want to
use.

In Outlook 2010, you can have more than one account tied to that server, so if
the first method is more inconvenient, then you might consider upgrading. NOTE
that Outlook 2010 does have virtual ribbons.

Tandem has been around for 7 years already and IMO still the best feature to
come along since free delivery of Chinese food.

Neither party needs the pro version but the controlling computer needs to be
authorized where the client can run in demo mode for 40 minutes which
normally is enough time to fix whatever the issue happens to be. I have been
on the controlling side so many times it isn't even possible to guess.

It was initiated in JAWS 10, just be sure you trust the person who takes
control of your system because they have the same ability to do things as if
they were sitting at your desk themselves.

Say you have a problem on your computer. I am running Jaws, so are you.
We could set it up where I can take control of your computer to help you fix
the problem. Ever heard of NVDA Remote? It's sort of similar, but in this
case, both people have to have Jaws on the machine for it to work.
And someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you wanted to initiate the tandem
feature (you want to take control of someone else's machine), I believe you
have to have Jaws Professional.

Just my two cents on this topic.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 17 Download Links & What's New

Hi All,

Below are the direct download links for Jaws 17 for both 32 & 64 bit
systems. Also, what's new is below the download links.

32 Bit:

http://files.freedomscientific.com/WebFiles/JAWS/J17.0.1010enu-x86.exe

64 Bit:

http://files.freedomscientific.com/WebFiles/JAWS/J17.0.1010enu-x64.exe

What's new:

JAWS 17 Features
Smart Navigation, More Efficient Interaction with Complex Web Pages and
Applications

Today and in the future, users will be faced with an increased need to work
with complex web forms, tables, and even applications that run inside of a
web browser. This will impact your day to day interactions with services
on-line such as banking and shopping, in addition to many web apps found in
both
companies and government agencies. For instance, Internet Explorer can be
used to log onto a Microsoft SharePoint server to collaborate with other
co-workers
and create and store documents. The new Smart NavigationT feature is
designed to make it more efficient when navigating web-based applications
with the
Virtual Cursor as the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW or CTRL+LEFT and CTRL+RIGHT ARROW
commands move by control instead of character and word. This makes
navigation
such as moving across toolbars, tab strips, and navigation links more like
navigating around a desktop application. Pressing the Say Character, Say
Word,
or Say Line commands twice quickly changes to the traditional navigation by
character, word, line, sentence, and paragraph so you can review the text of
the control. Smart Navigation resumes when you move to a different control
by pressing UP or DOWN ARROW or TAB. Alternatively, you can use the INSERT+X
command to quickly toggle between Smart Navigation and the more traditional
character and word navigation depending on the type of web site you are
navigating.

For example, if you use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys to move across a tab
strip, you might hear JAWS announce something like; "Home tab selected,"
"Insert
tab," and "Page Layout tab." If you wanted to review the items on the tab
strip character by character, press the Say Character (NUM PAD 5), Say Word
(INSERT+NUM
PAD 5), or Say Line (INSERT+UP ARROW) commands twice quickly. You can now
navigate by character or word until you press DOWN ARROW to move away from
the
tab strip to another control.

Smart Navigation is off by default. To turn it on, there are a few ways.

The quickest way to enable Smart Navigation is through the Startup Wizard
which automatically launches after JAWS is installed. When the wizard
starts,
select the Next button until you reach the Common Options page. You will be
focused on a group of radio buttons where you can use the ARROW keys to
choose
the Smart Navigation option you want to use (Controls and Tables or
Controls). Pressing TAB moves you to another group of radio buttons that
allow you
to select how Forms Mode activates. For the best experience with Smart
Navigation, it is recommended that users set Forms Mode to Semi-Auto or
Manual.
This prevents JAWS from unexpectedly turning on Forms Mode while navigating
with the ARROW keys. Once you have changed the options you want, continue
selecting
Next until you reach the Braille Settings page and then select Finish to
save your changes. Smart Navigation will now be enabled for any environments
that
use the Virtual Cursor.

Alternatively, Smart Navigation can be configured through Settings Center or
Quick Settings. For instance, you may want to use Smart Navigation in
Firefox,
but not in Internet Explorer.

You can also temporarily toggle Smart Navigation on or off using the
INSERT+X command. For instance, if you have configured Smart Navigation to
be enabled
by default and you encounter a web page where you would prefer not to use
it, you can press INSERT+X to turn it off and use the more traditional
navigation.
JAWS will switch back to Smart Navigation when focus moves away from the
browser or you navigate to a different web site. This command is also useful
if
you do not want to use the Say Character, Say Word, or Say Line commands
twice quickly to switch to standard navigation. It offers the additional
benefit
of not

[JAWS-Users] one drive

2015-10-30 Thread David Ferrin
Something was bothering me about one drive in windows 10 until a little
research solved my problem this morning. I like to move such animals from my
system drive to the data partitions that all of my systems have.

Windows 10 removed the little feature that made it so easy in 7, so I was under
the impression it could not be done. Fortunately it can, look for the
instructions to end up on the tips and tricks page probably today.

Oh yes, it feels good to bring down the 600 pound gorilla.

assuming no external factors such as a glitch in your connection because

Re: [JAWS-Users] Servic Management Software

2015-10-30 Thread Bissett, Tom
You Need to be careful with java. If it is coded correctly using swing classes
it can work quite well but if not it can be totally unusable. You also need to
be aware that the java access bridge must be installed in order to use java
this just adds another item to consider when implementing the application.
Experience is that few ever do it right.

Dear all,

Just wondering if anyone on the list is actually employed in a Servicedesk or
helpdesk type position?
We are investigating a new system and I am wondering if there is anyone already
using a system that can comment on accessability?
We have looked at a few including Servicedesk Plus, this seems to be JAVA,
Service Now and Landesk.

Many thanks in anticipation,

2gb should be fine in my opinion, we have only found issues when using 1gb.
Not saying that 4 wouldn't improve further of course.

Not necessarily. I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Optiflex desktop that has
only 2gb of RAM, and it works just fine, even though the local hard drive has
only 80gb total memory capacity. I don't think adding another 2gb of RAM would
make an appreciable improvement in performance.

Running Win 7 with only two GB of Ram is going to be a frustrating experience.
Can you add an additional two GB of ram to your computer? It will make a huge
difference in the performance of Win 7.

Hi friends,

I have just run a JAWS16 update as it told me that a newer version is
available, 16.44xx.
It is on the updating screen, installing patch and has been there clicking away
for about 45 minutes now, I can't see that this iis right.
I Have had a similar issue when installing from scfratch with the install file
on a usb pen and the FSOCR file in the same directory.
Has anyone come across this issue before?
There is no user account control screen in the way.

Steve.
