Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and word 2013 sluggish problems
Hi Al, Below is a note I've saved that might help. This helped me in Word 2010: From: Jean Menzies via Jfw Just thought I'd share this for those who want to try it. The symptom. I've often found sluggish performance in Word when searching, or when opening a second document. Jaws seems to either not be able to read a screen without refreshing, or, in searching, it would sometimes take two tries to get to the results. Just plain sluggish. In going through settings, I came across an option to "Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration". I checked that and things seem to be much more responsive now. I'll see how the day goes. But if anyone wants to do this, go into Options, Advanced, and the item is in there. If you use the, Alt + G keystroke, you'll get to it much quicker. From what I read on Google, if you change it in one MS program, it should affect all of them. Hey, I don't need graphics anyway. haha. Hope this works. Jean Note From Mike B.: My settings wouldn't stick until I checked the, prompt to update style, checkbox. To get to this checkbox the keystroke is, Alt + Y. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/turn-off-hardware-graphics-acceleration-office-2013 article region start Turn off Hardware Graphics Acceleration in Office 2013 Microsoft Office 2013 is great software for Windows 8 and I am guessing that quite a few of you may be using it on your system. I know we have had several folks speaking of some or all of the above. Unfortunately only myself and one other person has reported this to Freedom Scientific as far as he knows of. I am also running Word 2013. When I am typing for a period of time in word, suddenly without warning, Jaws will stop speaking. If I wait for bout ten seconds, , jaws will say the last key pressed. If I press another key, I have to wait another 10 seconds or so before that key is echoed. Eventually all the keys pressed will show up in my document. I am just wondering if this might be a jaws problem, or if there might be a setting within word that might have to be changed, possibly something to do with recovery? Also, if I attempt to save a large document first as a doc, and then as a text file, Jaws will crash and sometimes restart. Even after it restarts, sometimes Jaws will not respond and I must use narrator to finish saving my text file within word. This seems to happen with Jaws 17 and 16. Merv, Don't know where you come up with your info here... Unless you are using really intensive video or graphics editing programs, 16GB memory is overkill. I don't see any reason why one would need that kind of memory with Win 10 which is quite an efficient operating system. Second, your reference to Dell and HP techs recommending people not upgrade to Win 10? There was a major update to Win 10 a couple weeks ago, so even if that were valid after it was rolled out at the end of July, I rather doubt that is applicable nowadays. In looking at the article that seems to have precipitated this http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/support-reps-diss-windows-10 it woould appear that many of them aren't knowledgeable about some of the Windows 10 support features. Much of the advice PC Phoneline support techs give is not correct or current. Examples are in that article. Hi Kurt. Download the Windows Live Essensials package from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/download-windows-essentials and install it. If there is program's in the package that you don't want to install, then uncheck the box'es before pressing the Install button. Open Windows Live Mail, and follow the guid to set up your account, by typing your Name, your email address, and selecting the gmail. Than adwise the user name and password, and you should be done. [JAWS-Users] jaws and word 2013 sluggish problems
I am running Jaws 17.0.1214 on a 64-bit 3.2MHZ windows 7 ultimate system with 12 GB of ram. Any clues would be great fully appreciated. Phil For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Phillip, Sounds to me like part of the pause issue with jaws some of us are experiencing. I would suggest submitting a report to Freedom Scientific at: supp...@freedomscientific.com They are closed today or you could call, but if you prefer to talk by phone you could call Monday. Personally, I like the email route for paper and documentation trail as the issue gets kicked up the ladder. They do want to hear about these issue to adequately fix. It is sometime in 2020. Right now, you can still buy systems with Windows 7 Pro, but this option is the only thing available for new systems with Windows 7 now. That ends in October of 2016. But, support goes until January 14, 2020 officially. [JAWS-Users] A Letter for Carolyn.
Hi Carolyn from Ron Kolesar and current Leader Dog Boz. What I'd like to see in jaws especially for reading money is this. Currently what is nice if you have a dollar amount it will read it as example. $55. Example two. If you also have something like $3.25 It only reads as three point two five. Instead of reading $23.25. Example threee I also would like to see the following. For just something smaller than a full dollar. On some websites I run across buttons I can't click on with space or enter. I try routing cursors, turning off virtual cursor, left clicking, just about everything I can think of but the keystroke won't work to get me to the next page. I see it a lot on banking sites and on submit or continue buttons. Due to the configuration of some newer websites with maybe too many graphics--just making a guess--is there just no way to be able to use buttons and therefore the inability to complete tasks on these sites without sighted help? Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] selecting iTunes library?
Yes, I am attempting to open iTunes with a different library. So I am holding down the shift key, as I open iTunes, to choose my library. When I try to select the library, it won’t open. Even when it asks for the name of the library, I type it exactly as it appears, and still no go. > On Nov 27, 2015, at 4:53 PM, Don & Cherwrote: > > It doesn't sound like you are opening iTunes- please explain more clearly > what steps you are performing. > > Cher > > > -Original Message- > From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On > Behalf Of Kliph > Sent: Friday, November 27, 2015 2:11 PM > To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com > Subject: [Bulk] [JAWS-Users] selecting iTunes library? > > Okay, I already have an iTunes library created with media already in it. > And I am trying to choose it with jaws, but whenever I select it, and even > put the exact name of the library in the box, it says library not found. > What is the secret to choosing my iTunes library? > For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: > http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ > > > For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: > http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
