As Kimsan explained, go into JAWS quick settings with JAWS key+v and locate "virtual cursor options," which you did. Now, arrow down to "Select and copy..." It seems your setting is the default, "from virtual cursor." tab once to land in an explanation of this setting and what your options are. You may need to switch to the JAWS cursor to read this text. Then return to the PC cursor and shift-tab back into the choice field. In JAWS quick settings, you rotate through the options by pressing the spacebar. In this case, there are only two: virtual cursor or "full content using screen highlight." It's this latter setting that you want. At this point, you can simply save the setting by pressing escape, as I just confirmed. I think you'll find this setting is a very mixed blessing. For most purposes, I've gone back to the virtual cursor option. But only experience will show you which works best and in which situations. I've found Kimsan's alternative solution, control-alt-p or control-alt-v, works best for me. Hi David, I would be very interested in those recordings. My, that sounds so powerful; just being to press a key. I have been looking into this subject a lot lately, so it is wild that you are doing these tutorials. Version 6 could cover modifying it to run from the virtual environment. That way again all you would need to do is hit enter on it. Now this is getting up there a bit, but if there is an interest I can sure record my thoughts. Note: the last might have to be recorded on my Victor Reader although that is not set in stone. Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting Text in Firefox
Hi, A resounding yes! You can do that in Firefox just as much as within IE. I wanted to tell everyone that I am using the portable version of the latest version of Firefox, running from my flash drive, and it works just as well as the installed version of Firefox for what I do at least. I was able to play YouTube videos with it and everything. Nothing is on your computer. All favorites, settings, and everything else is saved on your flash drive, and you can use this on any computer if you have your flash drive with you. Remember that Firefox is the best browser for using Google Docs and Google Sheets. You can use Google Drive by itself on any browser. Take care, I was just so excited that the portable version works just as well, because I am using a tiny computer with a SSD drive of 32 gigs, so I only have so much room. I am also running a PDF reader portable, so I do not have to have that installed on my computer either. A good link with all portable software is: www.portableapps.com I believe that is right. There are hundreds of accessible apps on there that you can install to your flash drive and run the program from there. Yes you can sure copy like you described with Firefox. Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting Text in Firefox
Hi Kelby, Firefox makes an Add-on called, Copy as Plain Text, that you can install. Removes formatting from copied text. About this Add-on Have you ever copy & pasted something into your email or office program and been annoyed that the text formatting (bold, font size, etc) came with it? Don't you wish you could just copy the text itself, without having to copy it, paste it into a plain text editor, then copy it again? This extension gives you an option to copy text without the formatting. And unlike the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+V), you can even customize how it will copy & paste. Take care. [JAWS-Users] Address Book VS. Contacts List In Outlook 2016?
Hello, everyone. Does anyone know the difference between the address book, and the contacts list features of Outlook 2016? I currently have my most-used Outlook contacts in the address book, accessed via control shift B. Some have suggested to me that these contacts should be in the contacts list, which is accessed via control 3. Are there advantages and/or disadvantages of each list? Thanks as always! [JAWS-Users] comcast spam
This is a good thing but I do not understand. I have this comcast email account for about 18months and have not received one spam. This is wonderful but I have no idea where it goes. I use wlm for my email and no spam has come down. I just went to comcast.net to check my email folders and there were only 2 messages in the spam folder neither of which were spam. One was for this list and the other from a friend. My verizon account had about 60 spams every day. Any ideas where to look, I want to make sure that legitimate messages are not tossed away. --- Please visit my web page It’s motivational, inspirational with a touch of humor There is also a very extensive resource list for the blind http://www.LennyMcHugh.com International Brotherhood of Magicians member #43990 For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not recognizing blank lines in Word
Thanks Annette and Jean for your very helpful info on the blank line issue. I now know I'm not crazy and have a starting point from which to correct this problem. Thanks again, Norma -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jean Menzies Sent: Monday, July 18, 2016 8:46 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not recognizing blank lines in Word Yes, it's a proper form of text formatting where Word puts extra visual space between paragraphs, and a smaller space between lines within the paragraph. It's defined as pts, which stands for points. In the paragraph dialogue, you will see points above and points below. The number varies with font choice. Note that in days of yore, people used to put two returns between paragraphs to add that wanted blank white space. But that can end up causing blank lines where you don't want them, as in at the top of a page. So, the blank space you are seeing is created by Word, and Jaws would indeed recognize a blank space if you were to press the return key multiple times. Hope that helps. If so, then there is a setting that is telling Word to either automatically insert an extra blank line after a hard Return, or the setting might have something to do with the height of that blank line between paragraphs. I can never remember where these changes reside, so you can start by looking in places like the paragraph settings, or in the style settings. Good Luck! These things drive me crazy! Annette -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of The Iowa Gal Sent: Monday, July 18, 2016 8:31 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not recognizing blank lines in Word Hi list, I'm using Word 2010 with Jaws 16.0.4468. I had a sighted person proofread a document and they are seeing blank lines in the document which I cannot detect using Jaws. For example, with Jaws I read This is line 5 of the document. This is line 6 of the page. So, of course, I assume there is no blank line between the 2 lines of text. But the sighted person says there is a blank line there, that is what he sees. Forgive my frustration, but how in the hell am I supposed to create documents like this? I hope this is just a setting I need to adjust, but it seems so fundamental that a mere setting wouldn't cover something so critical to composition. I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. Meanwhile, I'm off for a mental health break. Or breakdown, whatever comes first.
