Hi Jim,

It all depends on what version of Word 2010 you're running. I'm running the
standard version of Office 2010, & I don't have a Review tab in Tools / Options.

It's most likely that you've unintentionally enabled "track changes". If "track

Try pressing control-shift-e to turn off track changes. It's a toggle that

Re: [JAWS-Users] Folders List View Question

2017-01-05 Thread Mike B.
Hi Tom,

When the, None, option is checked it doesn't show when you expand / open the
Group By submenu. These are the options that show:
Name
Unavailable Ascending
Unavailable descending
More

The steps I gave earlier are basically how I have my View menu options set.
Whenever I open a folder they're in Items view, in a list, & Jaws speaks the
number of items. Once you get comfortable with making settings changes in
the View menu you can tweak them all sorts of ways. But, when I open a
folder I only want to hear how many items, want them in List view, want to
be able to navigate by 1st letter navigation, etc. I don't want to hear all
the details of each item as I arrow down through the list of files &
folders.

You may not like your settings this way, so that's why it takes some
experimentation to get the settings where you want them.
Take care.

Hello, all.

I have just discovered an issue with my Windows Explorer folder list views.

When I open a given folder, Jaws now no longer tells me how many files are
in that folder. In other words, it lists the first file, and simply says
"one of one", even though there are multiple files in the particular folder.

How can I get Jaws to announce the number of files in a given folder?

I tried maximizing the screen, but it is already maximized.

I'm using Jaws 17 and Windows 7 here.

Locate your cursor on the row you wish to delete, then highlight the row
you want to delete by pressing shift and the spacebar together. Then press
your application key, arrow down until you hear delete and press enter and
your row will be deleted.
You may want to take note of the other selections there, they can be useful.
Just a tip if you want to highlight a column you can locate your cursor on
the column you want to work with and press control and the spacebar. Then
using your application key there are several useful choices you may find
helpful in the future.

Here's a suggestion, the one time I installed the Amazon Assistant,
thinking I might want it, I had no problems removing it and it never
came back, so I have no clue if this will help.

Before uninstalling it, go to the control panel, then to internet
options, then to the programs tab, then to the add ons manager. In the
manager, locate the Amazon Assistant in the list of add ons, and disable
it, then exit out of the manager and internet options. Then try
uninstalling it.

You might also want to try contacting Amazon, if this is a recurring
problem, they may have a solution.

Cheers!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading the IE notification bar

2017-01-05 Thread Gene Warner
The web site I used to try the suggested way to read the bar isn't such
a problem as the notification bar gets read soon after the page title is
read. On other pages JAWS keeps reading and reading and reading and
seems to be avoiding the notification bar as much as possible.

I was simply reminded of the problem when I visited the web site for the
V I P talking thermostats, which tries to run Windows media player.

Most of the time I just started a download, so I know what the
notification bar is about, but sometimes, when the download is done, I
get a different set of buttons that tell me that some issue has come up
with the download, and getting that message read in a timely manner can
be a real chore.

In short, I am sometimes reminded of how much I wish Microsoft had left
the dialogs in Internet Explorer, what ever happened to the notion that
if it isn't broken, don't fix it?

Cheers!

Insert + B does get the notification bar read, but first JAWS starts reading
the contents of the Internet Explorer window but only reads the window's title
before reading the notification bar, I will need to try it with more web sites
to see if that is by design or specific to that web site.

The left and right arrows don't seem to do anything, to navigate the buttons in
the notification bar you have to use tab.

I did find a possible way to do it though, but like insert +B, it needs more
testing to see if it works for most, if not all web sites. Press Alt + N to
give the notification bar the focus, then switch to the touch cursor, then
right arrow once to hear the notification message, then switch back to the
virtual PC cursor to continue navigating the buttons.

I've sent Freedom Scientific a suggestion that JAWS should read the
notification message after Alt + N is pressed and before the buttons are
presented.

Cheers!

Alt + N doesn't work.

While Alt + N does bring focus to the notification bar, all JAWS reads at that
point is the button caption that is currently selected. It does not read any
message or query that might be in the notification bar.
Attempting to tab to the text to get JAWS to read it only moves the focus away
from the notification bar requiring another Alt + N to get back to it.

Thanks anyway.

As you're finding out, what we call the information bar acts inconsistently,
and I have sometimes found that the arrow keys work instead of tabs. But for
the most part, it works fine with tabs. Would you care to have other people on
the list look at the webpage that's giving you a problem?

I've sent Freedom Scientific a suggestion that JAWS should read the
notification message after Alt + N is pressed and before the buttons are
presented.

Cheers!

your application key, arrow down until you hear delete and press enter and
your row will be deleted.
You may want to take note of the other selections there, they can be useful.

I haven't gotten to the step of moving any of my music or play lists to my
iPhone. I first have to get the items into iTunes and then make a play
list. Actually, I have accomplished getting the tracks into iTunes, with
the acception of one track. I'm pretty sure that the track is in iTunes,
but it is not grouped with the rest of the tracks from that CD. I've
attempted to go in and edit the info for that track, but iTunes will not let
me edit it. I was able to edit the other tracks. I haven't a clue what is
going on. I really have a love hate relationship with iTunes.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Accessing iTunes with JAWS18

Hi All iTunes Users,

iTunes is driving me crazy. I am trying to add new content to my iTunes
library so that I can make a Play List and then put that Play List on my
iPhone. I am using the latest version of iTunes and JAWS18 on a Windows7
machine. I find that sometimes using Tab or Control+Tab or F6 all do the
same thing for navigating, and other times they do not. When I land on most
buttons, JAWS announces to use the Space Bar to select, but I find that if
it is going to let me select it, I will have to use the Enter key.

I thought that when you selected Add to Library from the File Menu iTunes
would go out and find any new content, i.e. MP3's on your hard drive and add
them to the iTunes folder, and to the iTunes library. This is not
happening. I've even tried pasting the new MP3 files in the iTunes folder
and then going through what I think are the steps for adding them to the
iTunes library, and they still do not show up. I am selecting Add to
Library, and then in the dialog box that pops up I am thinking that I am
selecting one of the items in the list, and I do hear the iTunes sound that
usually indicates it is finished.

Can anyone help me with this?

Annette

Hello;
Well, here's how I do this,

1, ctrl+shift+b=addressbook,
In the search field I type in the group name,
Now I tab and enter on the group name,
2, to add a contact, which you know the information,
Press the alt+h, then releasing the alt key, press m/e,
You will be placed into the
Name edit field, then tab to the email address field.
After you press alt+h, release alt key, then press m/e, no need to press
enter.
If you don't know the email address,
You could
Again, contacts, ctrl+shift+b,
Type in the name in the search,
Tab and enter on the group name, tab once, now press enter, you will be in
the list of contacts.
Hopefully this helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Adding a new email to a group list in Outlook 2010

Hi Jaws Group.

I want to be able to add a new email client to a group email list. When I
go to the add members tab Jaws announces the keystroke to get there as alt H
M E. So when I hold down the alt + H then press M then E and hit enter
nothing happens. I have tried just pressing alt + H then M then E and
nothing happens. So does anyone know what I am doing wrong with this key
combination of letters using Jaws 18 and Outlook 2010.

Mr. Ed
