[JAWS-Users] a couple questions
I'm using the latest Jaws 2018 with Windows 10 build 1803. Is it my imagination or did the keystroke for bringing up a skim reading summary go away? Also, has anyone got the virtual ribbons to work in Windows explorer? I can't seem to get them working. They work everywhere else so far as I can tell, but not in windows explorer. Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple JAWS versions
I wonder if there's a semantics issue here. To uninstall is to completely remove the program from the computer. to unload is to temporarily disable a program until you're ready to bring it back. So yes, you do need to unload JAWS 18 before loading JAWS 17. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of jyandt.mar...@comcast.net Sent: Monday, May 14, 2018 4:21 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple JAWS versions David: So, if I understand you correctly, I have to uninstall my 2018, correct? Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple JAWS versions
Hi Jerry, No, you don't need to uninstall anything. Being that you said you have Jaws 17 showing in Programs of the control panel, David is trying to see if Jaws 17 is only showing or if it's installed. If you open the start menu and open your Programs folder, arrow down to see if Jaws 17 is there. If it's there, Jaws 17 is probably already installed. To finde out for sure, this is what David is suggesting, open the Run dialogue with the keystroke Windows key + R, and type in the following: jaws 17 Now unload whatever version of Jaws you have running with the, Jaws key + F4, keystroke and press enter. to shut that version down. Now press enter again, and if you have Jaws 17 installed it should start. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. The other day, a certain website owner had taken steps to make everything accessible, only for me to install Firefox 60 and generate a host of new issues. Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox 60
That's good stuff. I've used Chrome before with success, with no extentions. Can you fill us in on some of the ones you like to use, which make your browsing experience superior, in your view? I use Firefox and am generally happy doing so, but am certainly impressed with the speed of Chrome. The only reason I don't generally use it as much as FF is that my girlfriend and I share the pC and haven't yet bothered to set up separate user accounts, and Chrome is the brwoser she uses. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of gary-melconian Sent: May 13, 2018 11:29 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox 60 In chrome there is a button called chrome store, launch it and type accessibility and all kinds of wonderful accessibility extensions are offered to you. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Justin Williams Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2018 6:23 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox 60 With chrome, where can I find the extentions? I, too, am enormously frustrated that browsing has become so time--consuming and sometimes unreliable. I'm constantly switching among three browsers and two versions of JAWS because different combinations work best with different websites, and even then some websites remain hard, if not impossible, to navigate. The other day, a certain website owner had taken steps to make everything accessible, only for me to install Firefox 60 and generate a host of new issues. No wonder some website designers get frustrated with accessibility obligations. Developments on the Web seem to be moving faster than screenreader companies can keep up with. But I wonder why non-screenreader users aren't also encountering limitations with different browsers, since each seems to function differently. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Valiant8086 Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2018 3:20 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox 60 Hi. Morning all. I am having a bit of an issue with Thunderbird. While in my inbox, the most recent incoming email messages are from 3 months ago. Almost as if it was catching up with the keystrokes. Jaws wasn't slow or sluggish per say as when it was moving around, it felt responsive, but the speech silencing thing was getting annoying. That along with an existing issue I've been having with Jaws just randomly losing focus on any site and me having to maximize the window or tab or shift plus tab to get focus back all the time made the user experience a frustrating one. The response I got back was: Thank you for contacting VFO ® Technical Support. I have tried Firefox 60 with the most recent version of JAWS® 2018 and have not really found the issues you mention. At times, I have found that sometimes, when a Web site is still loading, it might get sluggish, but if you give it a minute or 2, you can navigate just fine. I just spent about 5-10 minutes navigating a very resource-intensive Web site and was actually very impressed with performance. Therefore, I am not sure this is a general issue but one that might be specific to your machine. So, aside from me not waiting around a minute or two for every single webpage to load when I didn't have to before, looks like I'm going to have to call tech support so I can demonstrate for them these odd speech pauses and whatnot. Don't know if I'll be able to do so anytime soon as I work during the day, but anyway. I've gone back to V 52.X in the meantime. Regarding the alerts, I was able to disable those with an about:config tweek a while back. I'll have to dig around

1. Open Internet Explorer. 2. Alt+t=Tools 3. O=Internet Options 4. Under the Content tab, in the Autocomplete section, choose the Settings button. 5. Within this window, you can select the fields in which you'd like to store Autocomplete data by using the check boxes. This action turns Autocomplete On or Off based on what boxes are checked. 6.
