[JAWS-Users] Not Receiving My Posts' To The List

2018-05-16 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

I'm asking this for a friend. She's running Windows 10 latest 1803, J18 &
J2018 latest, Windows Live Mail 16 with a Gmail address, & running as POP3.

How can she configure WLM / Gmail so she can receive her own posts' to our
esteemed email establishment? I have old notes and don't know if there are
updated settings that work better than the old settings did. All help will
be greatly appreciated. Thanks mooy moocho.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Since updating to 1803, sporadically Jaws refuses to read the body of some
emails. Generally I can close the email and re-open it and Jaws read it just
fine.

It also seems that this occurs after having an open Word 2016 doc?

List, have a Toshiba 5500 series laptop moving toward end of its life.

Anyone purchased a current Toshiba or Dell laptop that works well with Jaws
and is not a touch screen computer?

How about any other newer purchased laptops?

Thank you for any thoughts.

Hi All,

The following was told to me by Rick Justice, and I just do a sorry job of
typing it up! This is done with Jaws 16 thru J2018 latest and Windows 7.

Note: If you have the file path of the browser already pasted into a text
file, and also the website's URL you're creating the shortcut for also
pasted into the same text file it makes doing the following much easier.
Otherwise you'll have to browse for the browser file path. The example I'm
going to use is with Chrome and the Jaws-Users website.

1. Go to the desktop and make sure that nothing is selected. Either press
F5 when on the desktop or hold down the control key and press the spacebar
to deselect anything that is already selected.

2. Press the, applications / context menu key, / right mouse click, to bring
up the context menu items.

3. Choose new from the menu and then choose create shortcut from the sub
menu.

4. A 2 stage dialogue opens. The default field says type a location. Paste
the Chrome file path right here.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

Take notice of the quotation marks at the beginning and end of the file
path. At the end of the file path put a space with the spacebar to the
right of the ending quotation mark. Now put the website URL you want this
shortcut to open, but you, do not, need to put the, http:// orr www., you
only need to put everything after the, http:// or www., text. See example
below.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" jaws-users.com

5. Tab to the, Next, button and press the spacebar to open. This is where
you put in a name for this shortcut. After typing the desired name tab to,
Finish, & press enter.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi All,

Okay, a long way of doing it, but here are steps for creating desktop URL
shortcuts. Note: If the shortcuts are made with Firefox, the shortcut will
only work if Firefox is your default browser. I'll post steps for shortcuts
that can be assigned to open with a particular browser at a later time.
There may be an easier way, but here is what I do to create a desktop icon
for a web page.

1. Open your browser to the desired website.

2. Press, Alt + D, to move to and highlight the address bar , or pressing,
F6, works as well.

3. Press, Control + C, to copy the URL to the clipboard.

4. Move to the desktop and make sure that nothing is selected. Either press
F5 when on the desktop or hold down the control key and press the spacebar
to deselect anything that is already selected.

5. Press the, applications / context menu key, / right mouse click, to bring
up the context menu items.

6. Choose new from the menu and then choose create shortcut from the sub
menu.

7. A 2 stage dialogue opens. The default field is address. Paste the
address from the desired web page into the address field and tab once to the
next button and press space bar.

8. A second page opens and the default field says 'type a name for the
shortcut.' Type in a recognizable name for the shortcut and tab to next and
press space bar.

9. A finish button should appear. Press space bar or enter on it and you
are done.

This is a bit convoluted, but it seems to work quite well.

I found nothing in the program or a web search to show any provision for
saving a website shortcut to the Desktop.
You will have to use the method I described to you earlier.

Running Windows 7, Firefox ESR 52.8, & J16 thru J2018. When you want to
create a desktop shortcut from a website you visit regularly, how in the
heck do you do it?! In IE11 you can get create desktop shortcut options in
the context menu, or from the file menu, but with Firefox I can't find
anywhere in the context or file menu that will allow me to create a desktop
shortcut while on the website. So again, how is this done? All help will

I'd be curious which of these extensions helped you. A number claim to help

For anyone interested in the Chrome Store, I got there by opening the menu with
alt, then typing "accessibility" into the resulting edit field. Arrow down to
the chrome Store when the next page comes up. As I recall, it isn't labeled as
a button or link, but clicking on the title opens the store.
This is one of many reservations I have about Chrome: that many controls are
not labeled as such.

Aaron,

Thanks for posting your detailed rant. I, too, am enormously frustrated that
browsing has become so time--consuming and sometimes unreliable. I'm constantly
switching among three browsers and two versions of JAWS because different
combinations work best with different websites, and even then some websites
remain hard, if not impossible, to navigate. The other day, a certain website
owner had taken steps to make everything accessible, only for me to install
Firefox 60 and generate a host of new issues. No wonder some website designers
get frustrated with accessibility obligations.

Developments on the Web seem to be moving faster than screenreader companies
can keep up with. But I wonder why non-screenreader users aren't also
encountering limitations with different browsers, since each seems to function
differently.

pages need to appear and be readable, and how responsive navigation keys arrows

Re: [JAWS-Users] Desktop Shortcuts With Firefox

2018-05-16 Thread Mike B.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi Mike,
It appears that the only way to accomplish this is with drag and drop,
at least in this version of Firefox.
I found nothing in the program or a web search to show any provision for
saving a website shortcut to the Desktop.
You will have to use the method I described to you earlier.

Hi,
Recent developments made this a bit complicated:
1. JAWS will not run on Windows 10 S, or these days, called Windows 10 in S
Mode.
2. Not all tablets are powered by Windows nor x86 processors.
3. There are devices that runs Windows 10 but are powered by ARM processors,
and for this, JAWS may not run well.

Cheers,

some may have a version of windows specific to that tablet and it may be
posible to install jaws on something like that. the android tablets can have
a program

works quite well.
the only thing about android devices is that the os is specific to each

Hi Cristóbal,
It appears that the only way to create a website shortcut for Firefox is to
create a new shortcut on the desktop,
and paste the URL for that site into the shortcut.
Keep in mind this shortcut will only work if Firefox is your default

I actually looked up something similar regarding how to put a webpage link
on the windows taskbar with Firefox. From what I remember, it was somewhat
straight forward with Chrome, but Firefox required some additional steps and
command prompt this and tweek that. This is with Windows 10 by the way.
Anyway, I got busy with other stuff and sort of left that task linger and I
almost forgot that I wanted to do that until I came across this thread. So
yeah, Anyone got any ideas?

Hi, Mike.

I also have Windows 7. This should work.

Press the Windows key and arrow up once to "all Programs."
Press enter, then when a list appears press the up arrow key once.
Then press f until Firefox appears.
On hearing Firefox verbalized, press the applications key.
Arrow up to "send to submenu," press enter again.
Then press the down arrow key until you hear "Desktop" and press enter yet
again.

I use a lenovo thinkpad2 tablet with my current jaws 2018. Maybe others will
differ but I do not find windows10 on a tablet with jaws so pleasing than I was
hoping when I purchased the Lenovo. In many instances I still need to use a USB

would not go for this option. If I just compare how independantly and without
hassels I can operate my iPad mini with voiceOver then I would not have
invested in a tablet with jaws.
