Hi All,

I just reinstalled Windows7 Pro yesterday, & I'm running Jaws15. I'm told
that I've got new updates, but when I click on the system tray icon it takes

me to the desktop. When I go to the control panel / windows updates I can't

find the Important or Optional updates links either. What do I do to get to

these updates so I can install them?! Thanks much.
Take care.

you have administrator rights to the computer, if it's registered in your
name then this is your rights to call the shots.
A computer can have multiple identies that is shared by other people, so
when you logged into your side of it, it's all your rights to whatever is
there, you should be able to remove programs and etc, unless somehow the
program in question you wish to remove is also admin to another user of your
computer, then both parties have to log in and remove it or make changes.
I'm not 100% sure about this, just guessing here, since a computer is
different from like a checking account with 2 people on the same account and
one can't make independent decisions without the other aware of it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws & Avast, incompatible?

Hi Folks. A few years ago I had my PC reformatted and Avast was installed
as my anti-virus. This caused quite a number of problems with Jaws not
performing properly and my computer not functioning as it should. Avast was
removed and AVG was installed and things then worked fine. I subsequently
bought a new computer and as AVG wasn't as good as it once was; it became
increasingly less accessible I thought with newer versions of Jaws that
perhaps Avast would be fine now. Well this has not proved to be the case of
late. With Jaws 14 and Jaws 15 every now and then I would lose speech and
could not re-launch it, at times I had to restart the PC. This would happen
at random times without a pattern and it became irritating. When my speech
failed I couldn't even launch NVDA to inquire of what might be the problem.
This would happen when backing out of folders or when going back to a
previous web page. I used to use the backspace for this command but this
problem occurred much too often. I then started to use the alt/left arrow
to back out of folders and move backwards on web pages and that helped to a
limited degree as it happened less often, but it still happened too
frequently. Avast has now been uninstalled and my PC is working like a
dream, so fast reacting and I can work at speed with confidence that the
computer and Jaws will keep up and not have a seizure. I have come to the
conclusion that Avast and Jaws are not really on good terms. I can't speak
for other screen readers but I know there is a problem with Jaws and Avast.
At this moment I have no anti-virus but I'm going to install Spybot as they
now also have an anti-virus version but you must pay for that. Has anyone
else had a similar problem with Avast? Walter.

[JAWS-Users] QuickTime setting with Jaws 14

2013-06-11 Thread Alana Jovanovski
Hi,

I have tried to set the file associations differently in QuickTime running
Jaws 14, under windows 7 64 bit so that files that I stream won't open like
a web page without a player, in other words, handled by QuickTime and/or
iTunes. How can I change this setting? I have tried under mime settings in
the preferences section, but I can't even check any boxes to attempt changes
to the settings.

Thanks for your help.

[JAWS-Users] Convenient OCR

2012-12-03 Thread Alana Jovanovski
Hi,

I am using convenient OCR on adobe reader. When I use it with any pdf
document, I find the text runs together and I have a feeling it skips pages
with the most recent document I'm using. Can I fix this? I use the zoom
feature, I have tried it at a maximum of 200% which makes the text separated
somewhat, but I would like it to read more accurately. I have also maximised
the window. I have even pressed control 1.

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws repeating text in Microsoft word

2012-09-26 Thread Alana Jovanovski
Hi,

I am using Jaws 13, the latest build. I am running windows 7, on a 64 bit
laptop with office 2010. I used a windows 7 laptop, 32 bit, also running
office 2010 and had the same problem on it. When I press control with down
arrow in Microsoft word, Jaws repeats the current paragraph. Sometimes when
I use the arrow keys, Jaws can occasionally be unstable. I have repaired
Jaws several times and adjusted zoom settings to 50%, but that doesn't fix
the problem. A restart doesn't help. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Smartart

2012-08-06 Thread Alana Jovanovski

Hi,
To my knowledge, Jaws does not work with pictures. I tried using
paint once, just to find out if Jaws could do anything, but none
of these programs work. It would be good if Jaws could read
diagrams and anything else of that nature.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Smartart

Hi all,

I am a new member to the group, and am a mother of a 9 year old
totally blind bright kid. He has been a jaws user at various
levels since the age of 4.

In school he needs to make several diagrams and I was trying to
use smart art for food cycle and pyramid diagram. I saw that it
is pretty simple to create these diagrams using keyboard
commands, and happens really beautifully.

However, when I went to read the diagram, I found that jaws only
said graphic of size? Does any version of jaws support such smart
art reading as in table reading commands. Will jaws read as a
food cycle- object 1 grass, object 2 rabbit, object 3 lion?? Was
wondering since all data is available, since that's how we
created it in the first place.

Eager to hear from you.

Thanks and regards,
Ruchi

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 and windows live 9

2009-04-13 Thread Alana Jovanovski
Yes.
It is hard to view the previous message in a conversation with alt 1 through
0 commands. A few days ago, Jaws would not even read what I had just typed
by using the arrow keys.
When I started my laptop, it read correctly using the arrows, but eventually
I had trouble using the alt 1 through 0 commands, though I may have had this
trouble another time before I had difficulty with Jaws using the arrows in
the conversation window.

Hello Alana,

I went to the site you mentioned and I was able to listen and download from
that site. Just under the edit box where you enter the captcha is where
there is a button that JAWS refers to as "unlabeled 0." Pressing enter on
that button causes the speaking of the characters that need to be typed in
the edit box. You can press enter on the same button to hear the captcha
again. The speech is clear and it is easy to hear the characters to enter
in the edit box. When you know the characters then move to the edit box
(press shift with the letter E to return to the edit box from the unlabeled
button). Make sure forms mode is on and type in the characters. You can
then use down arrow until you find the button for enabling you to listen.
You will then be able to listen to additional songs or download them without

having to enter the characters.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Mp3raid.com code

2009-03-20 Thread Alana Jovanovski
Hi,

Does anyone know how to get the code for mp3raid.com to listen to music?

It's one of those image things where you have to look at it to get the code,
but it says on the website that if you cannot read the number in the image
there is a play button in the image.

After the edit field, Jaws says "Flash file," and then the download and
enable listen button displays, but when I press enter on flash file, it does
nothing, Jaws does not even say that flash file is a button.

Any ideas on how to work with such a page?

Hi Marvin,
Try this.
Load Jaws 10 after you exit Jaws 9.
Go in to basic settings and then the settings for starting Jaws
automatically.

Under the combo box where you specify when Jaws starts for your account
select always.
Hopefully that will fix the problem.

Hi.
was playing around with real tech audio manager, and lost all my sound.
a sighted friend got my sound back for me.
now the questions below.
well, got my sound and jaws back, but was not able to use the updatte
feature, as i had uninstalled jaws 10.
now, had to download it, and got jaws 9.0 as well.
but when my system starts and jaws starts, instead of loading version 10, it

is still loading version 9.
so how can i make version 10 the default on my windows vista system.
tried looking in default programs and setting defaults, but cannot find any
thing.
is uninstalling version 9, would this fix this problem.
or tried loading jaws 10, from the desk top and the programs folder, but
refusing to go to version 10 and had a look at the version number.
still version 9.
really strange, after the real tech audio manager software, was blocking all

sound and speech.
anyone had this problem before in windows vista and how to fix this one.
cheers Marvin.
