This is great news. Can you use a USB keyboard with it instead of the one
that you get from MS? This is really good.

Hello,

I have a surface Pro and run JAWS on it just fine. I use the Touch Cover
keyboard. Be aware that this keyboard does not have dedicated function
keys. You have to hold down the FN key to get the function key actions.
The FN key is the second key to the right of the space bar. The Touch
keyboard has some keys for common Win8 functions also.

You can find a list of the function assignments in this list.
http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-US/support/hardware-and-drivers/touch-co
ver-typing

For example, the key in the location of F1 by itself is mute. With the FN
key it is F1.

I haven't used it, but I should think so. It is Win 8 pro you are using on
it. Think of it this way. It's a actual computer in a tablit. So, if ypu've
used a PC with Win 8, then you know how it would work. Note get the type
cover. This is the one that has a keyboard with actuall keys on it. The
touch one has key shapes on it. I've heard the JAWS 15 roomer too. We'll
have to weight and see. But from what I understand from the access talk
podcast, this is what people were posting was being shown at CSUN. They
weren't sure since none of them went to the presentation, but that's what
they raid. We'll see though. I've heard it is true from some friends but the
thing is that it's kind of hard for them to figure out since they can't buy
some of the touch tech they needed from Apple. Selfish apple, some one
should get the whip. But any ways, yeah I guesss it's kind of true, but
we'll just have to see how well it works since Apple won't share. They have
to figure it out from scratch because of their selfishness. I mean, come on
man, we're talking about helping blind people here. Some one has to get the
whip like I said before.

Hi, I was interested in if anyone had heard or used the windows surface pro

the keyboard would be enough for me! I understand that the windows surface
pro will run any desktop application/program that would run on a regular W8
computer. I understand you have to live in the desktop part of the windows
surface pro for desktop application to work. So this makes me think that JFW
would work just fine on the windows surface pro with using the keyboard with
it. I also hear rumors that JFW15 might have touch built into it? I think
I would really like to have a windows surface pro but it would help if I

2012-12-10 Thread Bubba
This is a preface and you can do it or not! Some don't do login at the login
screen they just choose to start JFW after login! This does make a quicker
login. But you have to be able to know when windows come up and you need
site or listen to your computer very closely. Or just give a count and if
nothing is wrong then if you have it setup for ctrl Alt delete then you can
do this and put in your password. Or a another choice is just not to have a
login password. Then you know when windows come up. HTH

Sounds like you are having a similar problem I've had. I'll be reading down
a page then it stops and when I try to move through the page, it says blank
blank blank. Doesn't matter what you do, it doesn't fix itself. I usually
end up restarting the browser, then if that doesn't fix it, quit and restart
jaws.

Yes, it will update automatically and yes it has real-time scan on by
default and yes you can set it up to run scans on a schedule if wanted! I
use it and it is totally accessible and easy to use and understand. HTH

hello,
JFW 14, Win7 and thinking of installing Microsoft Security essentials
version 4 as the antivirus anti malware software on my new Win7 laptop.
For each of the 2 Qs below would appreciate steps to enable each in
MSE4.pprcieate very First, Does MSE version 4 which is the latest,
automatically install its regular updates and also automatically update the
frequent engine updates?
Secondly, does it have a real time scan setting or do I need to run scans
using MSE4 manually each time?

Thanks much indeed!

2012-12-09 Thread Bubba
Hi, are you using the updated version of jfw14? If so I would revert back to
the older version till they get the update fix! They are having problems
with the update for a lot of people with the insert and f keys and don't
know what all else . They have blocked the updater to Jfw with in Jfw for
updating Jfw. I also think they have blocked the site from downloading the
update of Jfw. I hear they will have it fix the update sometime next week. I
had to revert back myself and know lots of people that did the same. HTH

Has anyone noticed, with the JAWS 14, an announcement to edit with F 2?
What does this mean, and how do you turn it off?

Thanks.

Hi, as for the Google instance you can also use this Google page it just
cuts off the Google instance permitly but that is it all the rest is the
same and you can set it as your home page. No it is not the Google
accessible browser it is the regular Google page with the instance cut off
permitly so you don't have to turn it off each time. See link below to it.

Hi Elf,
When I go to Google, I go to the top of the page, and arrow down to the
first link which is:
screen-reader users click here to turn off Google Instant hit enter, and
then go on my merry way.
I always hit the H 3 times to get to the search results, and have no problem
with that even with Jaws 6.2 and IE 8.

I use the regular google site, but have book marked the google search with a
few useful parameters embedded in the URL.

http://www.google.com/?complete=0newwindow=1num=20

This turns off google instant, sets 20 results per page, and opens search
results in a new window when you click on them.

unless you have already downloaded it you cannot get it. They have pulled

This is true and the way around it is to just call your personnel department
and get them to print you out a copy or just tell you how much time you have
. Or get a visual person help you click the link. No this is not ideal but

Well, it is a Multi-Hospital system with 30,000 employees give or take, I am
the only employee who uses Jaws, so obviously they are not going to cater to
me when it comes to design, and it is my experience that almost anything
employee or healthcare related is becoming more and more graphical every
day. Of course when I started there we still used plain old Selectric

Tried that several times, have asked the administrator to fix the link, they
say it isn't their product and I should get my husband to do it for me.
However, I pressed alt control enter on it yesterday, it told me line
23 and
I did something and it actually opened. Nice to actually see my paycheck
info again. I even discovered that I have 223 hours of paid-time off, I
knew it was around 200 hours.
Don't know if I can reproduce what I did to make it work yesterday or not.
