Re: [JAWS-Users] question how to import favorites from windows xp to windows 7?

2012-04-10 Thread CM54
I know that Windows 7 has some sort of file transfer program, but for
favorites, I just used the export feature under the file menu from within IE
to generate a file with all my favorites and moved it from my old XP Pro
machine to my new Windows 7 laptop via DropBox and imported them to IE 9
with the import option again under the file menu. Pretty straight forward
and really nothing to it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 8 Consumer Preview and JAWS 13?

2012-03-28 Thread CM54
Considering that JFW 14 and Windows 8 will be rolling out around the same
time later this year, the new JFW release is most likely going to be Windows
8 centric which makes sense, but a bummer since that means that probably a
lot of issues with current bugs having to do with Office applications and
whatnot won't be given their proper attention or passed on to another JFW
release which just means another used SmA.

Yes absolutely. The latest version of JAWS 13 was released well before the
consumer preview came out, so I certainly wouldn't have expected full or
even partial support to have been implemented by this point.
It's neat to know that it sort of works, though!

[JAWS-Users] Office classic menu add-ons

2012-03-16 Thread CM54
Hello list,

Yesterday I read a blurb in the Wall Street Journal regarding the ribbons in
the newer versions of Office and how even though there isn't an option to
bring them back from within Office itself, there are apparently companies
that provide add-ons that will make them appear again.

My question is, has anyone tried out any of these add-ons on their computers
and if so, is there any issue either during the installation process and or
interaction with the add-on with Jaws? I guess I'm somewhat getting used to
the ribbons, but if there is a means to get back the old menus, it would
make it a lot easier. If it matters, I am using Office 2010 and JFW 13.

Have you maybe had a pare of eyes put the computer through its paces to see
if it's not something isolated to just screen reading issues?
If it's been less than a year since you got it, then it may be worth it to
check whatever warrantee that came with either the machine itself or perhaps
with whatever credit card or method of payment you used to buy it. That or
pay for some sort of tech support to take a look at it. It would most likely
be cheaper than junking the entire computer. Paying $65 or 70 for a techy to
try to figure it out or at least give you a good diagnosis as to what could
be wrong with it instead of getting an entire new system.

Hi,
Once you are in windows explorer, shift tab twice until you hear Command
modual tool bar and use your right arrow key until you get to the option you
are looking for.
However, it was reported several weeks back that if you turned off the
option show preview handlers in preview pain, the issue should be resolved.
You can find that by navigating to windows explorer and folder options and
once you are in the treview, press s five times and you should arrive to the
option.

windows seven 64 bit and jaws 13

I have the problem of windows explorer not responding.

Please can somebody remind me how to get to the window pane checkbox within
options or view. I cant find it anywhere at the moment.

I know unchecking this solved my problem several months ago and I am
wondering if this checkbox has been checked again, I am sure I have not
checked it but would love to be able to check and see.

Regards

Graham

Hi friends,

just upgraded to Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.
The download diaglog seems to have changed, you get a prompt and you have to
press ALT+N to get to your download, is this something clever that
Freedomscientific have done.
I did notice that you don't seem to bhave a dialog with progress when
ddownloading, has anyone found similar issues?

Hello Kuenga,

If you press the Windows key and type in View Network Connections (without
the quotes), you should find the item you are wanting. Press enter key on
the View Network Connections choice and you will have a list of the networks
including the local area network. Select the local area network icon and
press enter key. Use down arrow key to either the Internet Protocol 4 or
Internet Protocol 6. Tab to the Properties button and press enter key.

Take care.

Hello friends,
Unlike windows XP, I found difficulty of going to the location where we can
manually provide the IP address, for LAN Network in Windows 7. Of course I
know that we need to go to the Local Area Network property, but unless a
sighted friends help me, it has not been easy for me to reach there using
JAWS. I always had to find a sighted person to click with mouse.
Can someone provide me a accessible steps to enable to go to the desired
location?
Looking forward to hearing soon.

An easy way to give your data a small measure of protection is to add a

reinstall Windows on the first hard drive without erasing your files on the
second drive. See our website for articles on the topic.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws Dictionary manager always crashing when adding a new word or phrase

2012-02-23 Thread CM54
Hello list,

Having upgraded from a 32 bit XP Pro system to a 64 bit Windows 7 set up, I
have had to reenter my various dictionary entries since my understanding is
that 32 bit Jaws files won't work on 64 bit machines. I even called FS about
this and they confirmed as much.

In any event, I've been slowly doing this and since I often work in Spanish
language and sometimes german, I make heavy use of this feature. I've been
noticing though, every single time I enter in a new word or phrase and close
the dictionary manager, It always crashes. Below is what I get:

JDiction MFC Application

JDiction MFC Application has stopped working

Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.

Check online for a solution and close the program

Close the program

View problem details

When I click on the view problem details button I get the following
information:

Problem signature:

This crashing however doesn't seem to affect Jaws or the dictionary manager
as every entry I add always takes and there's no loss of Speech or anything
else on behalf of Jaws. I get the first error message for every single entry
though. It doesn't matter if I'm entering it into the default file, the
Internet Explorer, Outlook, changing the languange the word or phrase is to
be spoken in or if I'm just correcting the English language pronunciation,
it will always crash.

Since I've only had this machine for going on three weeks and have only used
the latest JFW release on it, I can't say if this would have been an issue
on earlier versions of Jaws with this type of set up. On my old XP Pro
machine, I didn't have this problem and am also running the latest Jaws
build.

Does anyone have any ideas of what this issue may be or how to fix it? I'll
write FS later about this, but since they're already closed for the day, I
thought I'd send it to the list as well.

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Jaws slower in responding with imap accounts than pop with Outlook 2010?

2012-02-21 Thread CM54
Hello list,

I've been working with Outlook 2010 and have set up a few email accounts.
One thing I'm noticing though, is that jaws is noticeably slower when
working with my imap emails as opposed to the ones I have set up as pop.
With the pop emails, when I press the delete button or arrow through the
list view of messages, Jaws works fine and as it always done, but when
working with the imap messages and again, deleting or arrowing through them,
Jaws gets sluggish and speech is delayed or I sometimes have to just press
the say line command to get Jaws to speak the next message's information. I
am using the latest JFW 13 release and am working with Outlook 2010 on a
Win7 Dell. The only difference between these email accounts is the pop and
imap configuration.
Are others experiencing this issue or might they have an idea of how to
better improve the JFW slow performance?

Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws slower in responding with imap accounts than pop with Outlook 2010?

2012-02-21 Thread CM54
Yes, thank you. I am fully aware of how both pop and imap work.
As this was my first time setting up the imap on my new machine, I was
unsure as to why the quite noticeable delay with Jaws speech was occurring.
I'll play with the header settings and whatnot and see if that helps at all.
It works perfectly fine on my iPhone. Just Jaws seems to slow down.

Post Office Protocol (POP3) has a much simpler interface with your email
server on the web than Interactive Mail Access Access Protocol (IMAP).
POP3 just retreives everything in your Inbox on the server at regular
intervals. By default, it then deletes the messages from the Invox on the
server. The message is only on your PC at this point.

IMAP synchronizes folders on your email server with the folders on your PC
email client. The messages remain on the server until they are deleted.
This is what makes IMAP better for use when reading email from different
computers and devices. Each device is synchronized to have the latest, will
not miss messages read on another device, or need to delete the same
messages on different devices. These are problems you will likely encounter
reading POP3 email on a computer and a smart phone. IMAP synchronizes
several folders, like Drafts, Sent Mail, Junk Mail, and Trash. It might
also synchronize other archive or labels in Gmail. If it is working slower
than expected, perhaps it is synchronizing more folders or details than
necessary for you. Most clients have ways, usually through using the
Applications key on the folder, to set which folders should be synchronized,
or hidden. It is also possible to indicate that for this folder, just
synchronize the headers rather than the entire messages. Reducing the
amount of work the client needs to perform to keep up with your email will
make it snappier!
