Re: [JAWS-Users] are some form fields impossible to fill out

2014-01-20 Thread Chris Hill
My bank uses a checkfree service for bill pay and I've had some
difficulty with date fields. There is a link near the top of the page
for screen reader users. Hitting that link seems to tame it. If that
doesn't do it for you, I wouldn't give up until I tried a different web
browser. Some things work better with one than with another.

won't be erased. For instance, if you want to pick another date to make your
payment the form fields won't let you change it. I have both Jaws 14 and 15 on
a windows 7 64 bit computer. Do I need to set something under graphics or

Sometimes, if hitting Enter or Space on a link doesn't activate it, using the

I will admit I am having problems like that as well but its not just jfw
15, neither.
I go to my kable companies website and there are links to click but simply
pressing enter or spacebar and performing a left mouse click works here
and there.
This morning as a matter a fact, I was on the kable company website and
using one of the methods did work but it would be so much easier if the
enter or spacebar would be fine.
I know I should note tech support my experiences, but hey, if I can't beat

I'm glad somebody raised this issue. Eric, I hope you follow this thread.

For reasons that will be clearer below, I encountered the same issue while
trying to renew my prescriptions at Express-Scripts.com. I added the RX's
to my cart, but then I couldn't get Jaws to check out. There was an item
that said "four items", but no matter whether I hit enter on it, tried
left-clicking it with the Jaws cursor, used Convenient OCR, etc. I could
not get it to activate. Jaws recognized it as a Span Element, whatever
that is.

I didn't want to send the screen to Tech Support because it would
obviously reveal medical information. But, if that is necessary to
resolve this issue, I can probably set up a reminder in my calendar and do
that in mid-February when I can add thing to the cart again.

I was able to use System Access which recognized the "four items" as a
link.
Unfortunately, once I did that, I couldn't duplicate the issue because I
had no more prescriptions to fill. Therefore, I cannot reproduce this
issue at this time, but Express Scripts is a large mail-order pharmacy
that I'm sure fills a lot of prescriptions for others.

Good Mornin',

I need to know when in the system's tray it states, the audio device is not
running what that means and how do I fix it?

This is on a win/7 laptop with Jaws 13.

Today, I had a very very scarey incident happen when I turned on my laptop.
Jaws came up loud and clear, but I heard no windows sounds, that was the
weirdest thing to ever happen and I am just not sure why that happened.
I could not get to desktop, start menu, sys tray nothing. I felt the fan and
air flow and knew the laptop was on, but not any window sounds, then after a
few minutes like around 5 long enough for me to make coffee, the window's
sound finally came up but it wasn't very loud.
So I checked the system's tray, and this is where I usually find that
message stating, the audio device is not running, could that have any cause
for window's sound not to have made it's boot up chime?

Please help, now I am afraid to reboot or turn off!

I guess you were referring to my previous message, perhaps. I find your
lack of quoting somewhat confusing. Anyway, on the upgrade, it will
install like a normal program, but it is big. It takes a long time to
download, and once your system restarts, it takes a long long time
before it is done. Using narrator may give you a clue that something is
still happening.

windows-ctrl-u to bring up narrator and figure out what is going on,

You have to buy a program if you wish to move programs. For
documents, downloads and the like, windows 7 comes with a transfer
tool that will do the job, you simply gook up both machines to the
same network and run the windows easy transfer program. Your outlook
express files can be read with windows live mail, which may or may not
be included in 7, but you can download it. If all this is too much,
get a tech to help, paying for their time may be easier than beating

Actually, the pro version of malware-bytes looks to me like it claims to

unless someone can recommend an alternative to MSE that is still fully

Have your friend try the following to put a mute/unmute shortcut on the

1, go to desktop, Windows key+m,

2, press the keystroke, Ctrl+spacebar, To unselect all icons.

3, press the applications key, and down arrow and enter on, New sub menu.

4, now arrow and enter on, New shortcut.

5,Now type the following in the edit box,
sndvol
6, tab next, press enter.
You will see/hear;
sndvol.exe
Tab finish press enter.

Now, if you would like a hot-key,

1, desktop,
Press the letter "s" until you hear,
sndvol.exe.

2, now press alt+enter to bring up the properties,

3, tab until you hear;
Shortcut key none,
Here you could type "v"=volume or what ever letter you wish, Now press
enter.
So, alt+ctrl+v would bring up the sndvol dialog page,

Hope this helps.

Have your friend try the following to put a mute/unmute shortcut on the
desktop & assign a keystroke to it.

You will see/hear;
sndvol.exe
Tab finish press enter.

Now, if you would like a hot-key,

1, desktop,
Press the letter "s" until you hear,
sndvol.exe.

2, now press alt+enter to bring up the properties,

3, tab until you hear;
Shortcut key none,
Here you could type "v"=volume or what ever letter you wish, Now press
enter.
So, alt+ctrl+v would bring up the sndvol dialog page,

Hope this helps.

happen in IE and it doesn’t matter if I’m either in the process of
downloading something or just reviewing the history of downloads. Also, it
doesn’t matter where I’m downloading from. Be it bookshare, Bard, etc.

I’m using the latest JFW update on a Windows 64 bit machine running the
latest Firefox enterprise version (17.0.6) since the regular Firefox is
still having problems with flash and Jaws. And yes, I have also experienced
this problem with the regular Firefox version.

I can’t recall whether this crashing/freezing happened before the latest
Jaws update, but I’m inclined to believe so. I don’t have an earlier version
of Jaws on this computer either where I can try it out.

Anyone else come across this problem?

by very sluggish is the arrow keys in a list of emails might take two

would be a sluggish painstaking disaster. Let me list some things I have

1. Did a full (MSE) virus scan. No threats were detected.
2. Did a full malware scan. No issues were found.
3. Defrag showed know issues.
4. Checked disk for errors. Its set to correct any known issues after

5. Did a system restore when the computer appeared to work normally.
this did not correct the problem.
6. Yelled and cursed at the computer and the dern thing just ignored me.

I found it. Looks to me like it copies no matter what. We'll see what
happens if I just comment that line out. I suspect it will be fine.
Somebody should have removed that testing code.

If you open the Quicken script file,
and then look for:
ComputeDistance
you will find the related code.

Strange subject, I know, but I've been having this little problem with the
latest Jaws 14. Sometimes I'll go into k1000 or a webpage or whatever,
and
most carefully select something like the amount of a bill so I can go
paste
it into excel or quicken or whatever. Sometimes I get the amount, other
times I get the message of distance is 2. I just got this and tried the
insert-space then c to see what Jaws claims is in the clipboard and it
said
distance is 2 case 1. Am I the only one getting this? Has anyone else
reported it? I'm tempted to do so, but I don't know if I can make it
happen
on demand. The really weird thing this time was that when I pasted the
first time I got my amount, and the second time I pasted I got this. It
is
like something aka Jaws is playing with the clipboard contents at some
point. I suspect Jaws, because this particular frustration has yet to
happen with NVDA or Window-eyes.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox freezing with Jaws 14

2013-02-21 Thread Chris Hill
First of all, no need to reboot your computer when firefox crashes. Hit
ctrl-alt-escape, find the firefox in applications, hit the
applications/context key on it and choose end task.

Second of all, having used both firefox and ie9, I'd say that ie9 gives
more information on webpages where there is any difference at all. I
have yet to find one that is more accessible with firefox. If you are
having a lot of crashes with firefox as your default browser, caused by
clicking on links, you might want to change to ie as the default. You
can download ff17.x off of mozilla's ftp site, you have to dig for it
though. If it weren't for a couple of plugins that allow me to block
ads and control what javascript I wish to allow, along with how it deals
with rss, I'd use internet explorer instead of firefox. I've used
firefox for many years, so I don't say that lightly. I have yet to try
the release version of ff19, but the beta crashed just like ff18 did.

On 2/21/2013 05:49, Sharon Gosling wrote:

default since most of the freezes occur when clicking links in email.
One I especially remember is a Kim Komando page that led to another page
and then the youtube link yesterday. There were others I remember from
Lookout Mobile Security. Can't remember them all.
The most aggravating part is to have to restart the computer to shut
down Firefox. The computer doesn't freeze, just Firefox.
I could still use more advice if anyone has any ideas. I know there are
many avid Firefox users on this list.
I presume that to roll back to Firefox 17 I would have to remove FF 19.
But where would I get 17. And is 17 the best version for Jaws users? In
old emails I had read about really low versions but it seems like they
would have many security holes as newer versions of browsers generally
have better security.

Using a different link for youtube would not help me since I never go to
youtube and search for videos. I click links from friends that take me
to interesting youtube videos.
If I keep IE 9 as the default I may never realize how much more
accessible the page might be on Firefox. Now, I only try Firefox when I
know there are form fields or other information I know should be there.
I imagine there is a great deal more information that I don't even
realize I am missing using IE 9.
If others experience similar problems then perhaps I should contact Jaws
or Firefox about it.
Actually I was amazed at how inferior IE 9 was using Jaws.

the best I could do was to go back to ff17 and force it to not update

better, but I kinda hate to break what is working.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Unable to copy cd content

2013-02-16 Thread Chris Hill
Bad burn or a bad drive on your laptop. I'd try burning at a slower
speed and see if the laptop will read that.

If you just need to move files, their may be simpler ways to do it.

I wrote files to a cdd on my desktop, but my laptop won't let me copy the

Re: [JAWS-Users] clearification behind external headset question

2013-02-16 Thread Chris Hill
You just have to go into the utility menu and ecamine your sound card
choices. Just because something says headphone it doesn't have to be
the one you want. Read all the choices with your usb headset attached
and not attached, same goes with your external sound card.
