[JAWS-Users] accessing links in Outlook 2010

2012-03-30 Thread Erin Pruitt
Hi, y'all,

I'm using JAWS 13 and Outlook 2010. Got a new computer a couple of weeks
ago, and now am not able to click on a link received in an email and have it
open in IE. It gives me an error message like this operation has been
cancelled due to restrictions placed on your computer. Please contact your
system administrator. And then just an OK button, so no further info on
how to fix it myself. I am the system administrator as the owner of my
computer, aren't I? I was previously using Outlook 2003, and knew I could
switch from receiving messages in plain text to html. I can't find that in
2010, but it says I'm sending in html.

Thanks for your help,

Erin

On the archive page, is it possible to do a key word search *and* sort by
date? I was unable to do this when I tried yesterday.

If you click on the link at the bottom of each message for the FAQs,
you'll find a link just above the Close Window at the bottom of the page:
http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com/http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com/

and you'll be there. Or you can paste the link into your browser

Check and see if you have tab browsing on and how it handles pages.
You may have more pages open then you think sometimes.

[JAWS-Users] Facebook and J11

Hey, y'all,

I have been having a terrible time using Facebook since they took away the

On a separate note, I tried to look through the archives for Facebook

it won't read the misspelled word during spell check here in Outlook

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 7, IE7, and Facebook

2009-08-21 Thread Erin Pruitt
Hello, all-
I am using Jaws 7 still and have recently been having a lot of problems with
Internet Explorer. It won't allow me to open links, click on buttons, and
crashes frequently-- telling me it has encountered a problem and has to close
and often shuts down Jaws. I cannot afford to upgrade Jaws at this time.
Also, I had a friend help me set up a Facebook page and that site loves to shut
me out. On my FB homepage, it recommends that I upgrade to IE8. Does anyone
know if J7 will work with IE8 or have any suggestions about what I can do
besides upgrade Jaws?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions,

In IE7, I use Alt-D to take me to and highlight the address bar and then Alt-C
to copy it, and Alt-V to paste it into my message. Maybe that will work in
IE8, too.

Apologies as this subject-line does not express what I want to
ask about in some ways -

If I wanted to send the address to someone in an email as a link
I've always used f6 but with IE8 this no longer seems to work
does anybody have an idea what key to use instead?

I have had similar problems with Amazon and have switched to Barnes and Noble.
Their site is a little less cluttered and it seems easier to check out without
inadvertently buying something you

They're not alone in that regard. BUY.COM does the same thing, and you
have to be careful to find the right buttons for checkout, place order,
etc. or you may end up with a subscription to a magazine, credit card,
or other merchandise that you do not want, along with a higher bill, of
course.

I am afraid my net flix online viewing has been limited to a couple of

aren't wanting to play the movies on my system. I wish I could figure out more

When I have stopped it in the middle of an episode, it will pick up right

Again, I'd say that's a matter of perception, and/or what you're trying to
do. I used to agree; Myspace wasn't great for accessibility. And yes, it
still has room for improvement...but for adding friends, reading blogs,
reading/creating bulletins and messages, it works pretty well. Doing
 stuff
with music, as far as adding music to your profile, is still a nightmare.
Facebook works well for that if you use the iLike application, which you
 can
find in Facebook's apps section under Music. VERY cool application.

Mostafa-
Which version of Jaws are you using? Are the navigation keys you mentioned the
standard ones you use with IE or is there a site I can locate scripts or a help
file ?

Thanks for your feedback,
Erin

Erin,

There is a very good article covering Facebook accessibility in the current
issue of the American Foundation For The Blind online magazine called
Access World. I think it would be worth a read. See link below.

 Hello, everyone-
I am wondering if anyone is using Facebook successfully with Jaws. I
tried to set up an account but had difficulty with the audio security code
you have to use (since copying the code seen in the window is not an
option). My husband is sighted and said he could help me set it up, but
I'm wondering if it will work with Jaws or just something that will be
frustrating for me. I am currently using Jaws 7.

Thanks in advance for your input,
 Erin

Re: [JAWS-Users] anti-virus software compatible with JAWS

2009-03-05 Thread Erin Pruitt
Andy- Are you currently using the full package of Norton? I was looking at
purchasing that, and have found it priced anywhere from $16.99-39.99. I'm not
sure if I have to by it directly from Symantec or if I can purchase it for a
cheaper price elsewhere. Also, do you know off-hand how to check how much RAM
is available. I learned that once but haven't used that command enough for it
to have stuck in my brain.
Thanks, Erin

I dislike comments like the one below. I have used norton since the
days of Norton utilities for DOS, and have had no problems. It is kind
of a resource hog at times, but many of them are. If you have a system
that has less than 1 GB of RAM, you will notice significant sluggishness
when Norton is doing a scan, so you just schedule the scan for the
middle of the night, or some time when you are not using the machine.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] anti-virus software compatible with JAWS

 Hi, folks-
Question first:Can anyone recommend an anti-virus program that is
compatible with JAWS besides AVG 8.0? I am using JAWS 7.0 and want
more coverage than the free version of AVG, which recently let in a
virus which reeked havoc on my laptop . I am willing to pay for a
program, but lost
confidencein AVG and don't want to purchase coverage from them at
this
 time.

 Thanks, Erin
