[JAWS-Users] here is how I repair jaws, and it works all the time, and I don't have to do much.
1. When you download a jaws update, download it from the web site. Don't let it install automatically. 2. When the executable is downloaded and you know where it is, highlight the executable. 3. Now hit enter on the exe. 4. Jaws should now ask you if you want to modify, repair, or uninstall jaws. 5. Choose repair and follow the prompts jaws gives you and it's easy peasy. Take it from me, because I am not a computer whiz. Jim For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] a problem with Microsoft word 2010, and jaws 18.
Word is maximized. Jim -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: Friday, February 3, 2017 10:58 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] a problem with Microsoft word 2010, and jaws 18. Two possibilities come to mind. First, the most-often-given advice on this list: Is MS word running maximized? The quick way both to find out and fix is to go to the MS Word icon on your desktop (assuming you have one), press alt-enter for properties, then tab until you hear the window size. It should say "maximized." If not, arrow up or down for that option, then tab to Okay. (I can't remember if an Apply button comes up.) Second, since the problem is erratic, I wonder if there's something in your document's format that causes JAWS to stop and start over. I'm assuming this problem comes up when you're in "say all." The next time this happens, stop JAWS with the control key and see if you can discern anything unusual, such as a code or format change, in that sentence. Well, there's a third possibility, which is that you might need more RAM. But with any luck, this isn't the answer. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of jim rawls Sent: Friday, February 03, 2017 1:25 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] a problem with Microsoft word 2010, and jaws 18. Creating Message/filter rules in outlook, I believe these steps will work in outlook 2010,2013,2016. 1, open outlook. 2, you first need to create the folder in which you want to filter the messages too. Ctrl+shift+e=create new folder, So here in the edit field type the preferred folder name. Now tab twice, you're being asked where you want the folder, you most likely want it on the first level with all the other outlook folders, So press the home key, You should here, Your name/email, and level zero, now tab enter ok button, the folder has been created. Now we need to setup the message/filter. >From the inbox, find a message in which you wish to send to the newly created folder, Press the applications key, you can either press the up/down arrow until you hear, Rules sub-menu, Now you can press enter, Up arrow enter on, create new rule. Now that you're in a list of folders, press the letter j=jaws-users-list, or whatever the list name is, Now you need to tab and enter on ok. Note, the rule isn't quite finished yet, Now tab to the advance options button, press enter. Now you have four steps you need to apply, The first step is, Select conditions, This screen can be excepted as is, so just tab to next and press enter. The next screen is, Select actions, again this screen is fine, so, just go to the next button and press enter. The third screen is, Are there any exceptions, Again, here the screen is fine, just tab to next press enter. Finally we arrive at the last screen, Finish rule setup, You will need to, tab and check the box that reads, Run this rule now on messages already in "Jaws-Users" Again, this will depend on the folder/name/filter, Again tab and, make sure that, Turn on this rule is checked, Now tab and press enter on finish, the rule will be applied to the messages currently in the inbox, and from now on, all messages with the criteria you chose, Will be placed into the folder. George Adding a New Contact Group (Formerly Distribution List) Adding a contact group is very similar to adding a new contact. Here's how to do that if you would like to try it. 1. From the main Outlook 2013 window, press CTRL+SHIFT+B to open the Address Book. 2. Press ALT + Foxtrot to go to the File menu, and then choose New Entry. The New Entry dialog box appears. 3. Choose New Contact Group in the list view and press ENTER. An untitled Contact Group appears with focus in the Name edit box. --- 4. Type in a name for the contact group. 5. On the ribbon, go to the Members group and choose the Add Members button. You can press TAB to move to it and press ENTER on it. A menu appears with the following choices: o From Outlook Contacts o From Address Book o New E-mail Contact 6. Choose From Address Book and press ENTER. The Select Members Global Address list opens. 7. Make sure to choose the Search radio button for Name Only, not More Columns. --- 8. Press TAB to move to the search edit box and begin typing someone's name you are looking for. The list view below scrolls to match what you type. 9. Press TAB to move to the extended list box and use ARROW KEYS up or down to select the person. 10. Press ENTER to add that person to the group of members. Focus returns to the search edit box. 11. Repeat steps 8 through 10 to select other members. 12. To complete the process, press TAB to move to the OK button, and then press ENTER. Focus returns to the Contact Group dialog box, which now should have the name you gave it. 13. Press ESC to close it. You are asked if you want to save the changes, answer Yes. The new contact group is saved and focus returns to the Address Book. 14. Press ESC to close the Address Book. @txt.att.net @vzwpix.com @messaging.sprintpcs.comtmomail.net @tmomail.net @vmobl.com If I continue to do the same things I have always done and am believing for change in my life That is a form of insanity! Sometimes, as I have discovered on my Windows 7 desktop, when you shut down your computer, it will exit Window, but the power will not shut off. And because there is no sound coming through the speakers after the computer has exited Windows, you may think that it has shut down completely when in fact, the power is still on. This can happen occasionally when an open program prevents the computer from completing the normal shut down process. The only way to know for sure that your computer has shut down normally is to wait a minute or two after you have initiated a normal shut down, and if you can still hear or feel the internal cooling fan running, or if the tray for the DVD drive still opens and closes when you press the eject button, then the power is still on. If this is the case, try pressing Alt-F which will usually force any open programs to close so that the power can shut off. Of course, there will be no keyboard echo because there is no sound. If this doesn't work, then you need to press and hold the power button on the front panel to force the computer to completely shut down. It should not be necessary to unplug it. Jim I have some more questions. I have downloaded all 3 tools you said to download. I have also reserved windows ten some time ago, so can I just start the media creation tool after I run the jaws tool? And will jaws occasionally talk to me until the windows install? I also have jaws 17 beta on this computer, and since I am running W8.1 do I have to install jaws? And finally if jaws doesn't have to be uninstalled, will the computer talk after windows ten is installed? I was able to use the touch cursor successfully on my desktop, and had Microsoft send me a text code to my cell phone. Which I entered into my desktop correctly and verified my computer with my Microsoft account. However, we did not verify our laptop yet. So, this morning when it came on, my wife could not access her email. The reason why, was that Microsoft turned our anti-virus off, and under security, there was that same verify link. so, if you do not verify shortly after installing w-10, if you use a Microsoft account, this same thing will happen to you. I am not able to verify our laptop. After spending 1 and a half hours with Microsoft, they were not able to verify it either. The Defragmentation service is true, as Windows 10 keeps your hard drive defragged constantly so as to maximize the storage space and it's information retrieval. In terms of the Disk clean up, I don't believe this has been automated in Windows 10, but as of Windows 8.1, disk clean up is still a manual task, though, I suppose that you can automate it by setting it as a scheduled task once a week, or so, but again, you can always set Internet Explorer to empty temporary internet files automatically once you finish browsing. That has always been in the Internet Explorer settings, but in terms of emptying out your recycle bin, or cleaning up dump files and/or log files, those you must do manually, since the computer can never know which ones you want to delete and which ones you don't. Like I said above though, I may be incorrect in this statement, to please take it with a grain of salt, as I am not officially using Windows 10 yet, as it has not been reported ready for my computer. Apparently windows media player in W8.1 will not play DVDs. I know I can use VLC, but how do you use the controls when using VLC player? Well, if you have several folders in outlook as I do, go into each folder, and turn off the reading pain for every folder. Even the In Box. Rose, why not call the Microsoft disability number. They can tandem with you and probably eliminate your problem. The number is, 1/800/936/5900. Driving me crazy, only wish I had a sighted computer savvy person available, most of my family are proud that they don't know anything about computers if they are around at all.
