Subject: [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all
know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain
task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how
new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be
there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list
know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure
help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a
software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is
perfectly
fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take it up
with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted
to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment
but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 650
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account.
Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the
directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a
number
of such messages then the server will remove your email address
automatically.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech
swap shop
or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off
topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should
only
post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The reason for this is that
in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the to: field often
times such rules get fouled up and in effect do not work properly. Also
cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the
fact
is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice
does nothing but clutter up such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators.

The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any
member names.

Please do not reply to a posted question simply to say you don't know the
answer. All that does is create more traffic on an already very busy list
for
no reason at all.

Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to
help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

Jason,

If you are in the Tree View when browsing, and you utilize the left and
right arrows to open and close the different folders, this will work fine
until you reach the folder which contains the file which you are trying to
locate, i.e. the documents folder. When you reach the documents folder, and
it says closed, do not press the right arrow key to open it, simply press
the tab key. This will also open the folder and will reveal all of the files
and folders within it, not just a select few. I could not really tell, but I
hope this ansers the question that you are asking.

Sounds like you need to switch folders to a higher level to find your Resume
file, which can be done from the Tree view. I am not sure which version of
Windows you have, but in Windows 7, from the Attach File window, you are
first left in the file name field. Hitting Shift tab twice puts you into
the list of files in your last used directory. I believe this is your
Pictures folder. Hitting Shift tab twice more should have you hearing
Tree. From the Tree view you can up or down arrow, or use the first
letter of the desired foler. JAWS should also announce the level of the
folder. The default folder name is typically documents when you are
saving from most programs, but could easily have been modified along the
way. Hope this helps. I have never used Windows 8 so am not sure if the
tab structure is different in that version.

Hello Tom,
Below are the directions from FS Training.

To center the text of the letter vertically on the page after you have typed
it, do the following:

•Press CTRL+HOME to move to the top of the document.
•Press ALT+P to move to the Page Layout tab of the ribbon.
•Press SP to access the Page Setup button. The Page Setup multi page
dialog box opens.

•Press CTRL+TAB until you move to the Layout tab of the dialog box.
•Press ALT+V to move to the Vertical Alignment combo box, and then
choose Vertical in the list.
•Finally, press ENTER twice to close combo box and the dialog box. Focus
returns to the document area, and the text is centered vertically on the
page.
NOTE: It is not necessary to center the text on the page if the letter is
more than one page in length.

Hi all,
I am having difficulties, maybe, because this version of JF isn't

I am waiting for SMA, but there is some procedure in my company.
1. When I press ctrl. o. I don't have classic dialogue as in 2003, there
are some tabs maybe last opened or edited documents, only on last tab is
something as unsaved and there when I press space-bar I can select the
files.
2. When I press ctrl. c/v I am facing some dialogue how to copy/paste, I
must press esc. to close it.
3. When I will go to the some folder where are some xls/doc files, the
explorer is frozen and I must few minutes, when the window is possible move
between files.
4. When I press ctrl. f4 before I could close all files, now each file I
must close separately.
5. When I must enable some macros, I am not able move cursor to the edit
button as before.
6. When closing documents 2003 asked me if save yes/no, here is don't save
and as I was before pressing yes now it is confusing me.
Any help would be good.

That keystroke refreshes the screen for me; on Jaws 16, Windows 7 64 bit.
Cheers Kevin.

When I press jawskey + escape jaws jumps to its fastest speed instead of
refreshing the screen. Has this key command been changed?

Re: [JAWS-Users] What To Do when JAWS Won't Start Up

2014-12-29 Thread Kevin Hourigan

Hello Michele,
You indicated you did not hear the Windows signal; I wonder if the issue is
that Windows is not starting, if you have Jaws set to load automatically
after Windows Loads.

Cheers Kevin. .

Sometimes JAWS will not evoke at startup although it is set up to perform in
that manner. On occasion, this happens to me. I have found if I do
Windows, M and press J for JAWS and then enter, it usually will start.
Try that. I hope it does.

If it does not, the much more engaged folk on the list can give other
solution suggestions.

Hi everyone. I'm using a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 and JAWS 15. Today, I
tried turning it on and waited for the Windows sound to come and for JAWS to
be announced, but neither happened. I tried doing a hard reset but still the
same thing happened. I don't remember doing anything on the laptop before
shutting it down last time that would have caused this to happen, but wonder
if anyone can suggest some things for me to try. I can't remember how many
times I have to tab, for example, to get to # start-up options or whether I
have to up- or down arrow to get to the right one.

Thanks.

Michele

Dear Mike and others. At the moment, ow have not been able to try any
tuggestions because there is no sighted person becheck when Windows is ready
to go. As soon as I can, I will check the speaker volume and try your other
suggestions. I usually use a normal desktop keyboard with my laptop, but
since I moved, my work station has not yet been set up; so I'm just using my
laptop's keyboard.

Will keep you posted. As always, you've all been very helpful.

Cheers!

Michele

Is there a hotkey for telling the percent of download of a file from the
internet?
