Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] how to be safe when shopping on line
Hi Kathy: here are a few common sense tips for not just you but us all. First, know the site you want to shop from. I use amazon a lot, but i've shopped extensively online for years. Second, with a new site, look for things such as this site is protected from hackers, over 99% protection, or something I can't quite remember the wording. From a screen reader standpoint, when you're ready to submit things like your credit card, always look for the address to start with http://s this means that your information is encrypted. If you're still cautious, you can always call the customer service number, and explain you'd like to shop online but are a bit wary of doing so. Hope I helped somewhat. Lenny, are you using the actual USB port? If you plug your phone into a hub ti may not work correctly. Hope that helps somewhat. I'll add cleaner as well. ;) Rich You will need t download windows live mail I do remember that. and it will ask you to download stuff like windows writer, movie maker, and other insane things. I think Messenger is included in that sub sandwich of things. Umm, sorry new englanders call it a sub probably something different, but basically that huge sandwich with a ton of things? Ok I'll send this before I make myself hungry. On Oct 4, 2013, at 9:07 PM, Chris Hill wrote: > You have to buy a program if you wish to move programs. Re: [JAWS-Users] Please help with XP to 7 upgrading considerations
Hi Rich. Wow what a step to take. Hope someone's got your hand, luckily the list does. :) Here are a few things. 1. If you have windows sixty four, you'll need that version of jaws. Other then that, you can install programs as you need them, and there are two folder paths. The first says c:\Program files. Easy this is where all your sixty four bit programs, if you have them, are found. IE. has a sixty four bit program if i remember right. The other folder path is c:\program files\86 or something like that. All this means is this is where your 32 bit programs are put. so all of this probably confusing language to tell you, just pay attention to where things are installed, but usually programs know where to install themselves. If you are a little bit better at computers then I'm thinking, I hope I haven't insulted your intelligence. I used windows mail, it worked of or me though like it's predecessor I did pull my hair out a time or two when some of those lovely errors popped up. If you'd like more help feel free to contact me off list. And someone make sure i've got those folders right? i'm not albs to check at the moment. Hi. I think you might be confused. This is a site where you can shop online, at sores like staples, dell drugstore, and those points will come back on your credit card, so that you can get rewards like gift cards. I used to use this all the time and suddenly I can't shop anymore. Hope that made a little more sense. Also sorry for the spelling, I hit send before it was done spell checking. Hi. Yes I use it, not always with a windows pc, ;) and it's just fine. the phone app same deal. Now if someone higher up then I, could tell them that labeling their links correctly when shopping and earning bonus points would help, I'd be over the moon. The problem is after you click on the link say Macmall, when it says retailer.htm, well what's retailer.htm? Anyway if anyone else has this issue with them, and wants to speak up, I'd apprciate it. sorry, trish for the mini rant, again it was fine until something broke. Hi Trish. I use BOFA they have both a great site, as well as an iPhone app that's hands down accessible. You can do anything you want with it. I use their credit card as a side note, and except for not being able to earn bonus points easily, I have no issue. They are very understanding if I was a day late paying, when circumstances flew out the window. I feel for you with the credit union, I have one and it was great until it changed to bigger guy headlocked smaller one into merger. Hope I helped somewhat. And, I'll be interested as to what others say. Hi Paul. This is going back awhile, but wasn't there a talking typing tutor from, I think it's www.braillebookstore.com or www.futureaids.com I'm not sure which web address is correct, I apologize for that. Ok so this is windows seven then? Second, is this a USB headset? If it is, there's part of your problem, you'll need to decide what you want to go through each sound card. Hello Scott. Just an idea, granted I haven't updated yet. Have you tried using Narrator to install the update? Sometimes that works. Hello Susie. First off, what did you use before? If it was something like outlook Express, Welcome to Windows Mail. It's ok, but a bit annoying sometimes. [JAWS-Users] trouble reading windows live mail messages.
Hi all. It seems like there’s no longer a virtual cursor in the body of email messages. even composing this one, if I were to read a reply, I need to route jaws to pc to read some of it I’m never sure if I can read it all in one message or not. I’m using the latest update of Jaws 12, and a Windows seven sixty-four bit machine. This just started happening. I did try to turn it on again, thinking I hit the wrong keystroke but nothing I’ve done worked yet. I’m also having trouble Jaws retaining focus when I hit control N to bring up a new message in Windows live mail. It says Lost focus, and I have to end the process in task Manager maybe once, like this time, but maybe sometimes three or four times before it will recognize what I want to do. If any of these topics have been covered, I apologize but it’s become quite a chore to read mail, so I may have missed some answers. Hi James. Glad I could help. and for whomever wondered whether or not it matters if he used which keystroke? In Vista, this control alt delete action performed will bring up the windows log on dialog. It was not the keystroke which would've enabled him to fix the current circumstances he discovered himself in. Re: [JAWS-Users] my aim program is frozen
Hi James. See if you can go an download the latest aim. Also, kill the process. Go into task manager by using control shift escape. Arrow over to processes. There's a list view. You're looking for aim.exe delete, hit yes, then try and either opening aim again, or installing the latest version. Note: if you kill the process but it's there, hit delete again. If it gives a can not determine process error something to that effect, the process has already been terminated. Hope that helps. [JAWS-Users] Focus 40 blue issues, probably figured out.
Hello all on this snowy wednesday. I think I have finally found my problem with the Focus and it not wanting me to enter passwords and things correctly. When I installed my bluetooth adapter, I plugged it in and windows found drivers for it. The software had come on one of those mini discs and I needed to find something to use it with. Anyway would that be the issue, that for some reason, because I reinstalled the bluetooth adapter with the software, that the adapter and the drivers windows found might have some compatibility problem? Just a thought I would throw out there. Also while this is open, has anyone had problems with windows Live Mail 2011 either not opening a new message or if it does, Jaws says Lost Focus? The only way around this, I’ve found is to kill the process and try again. Unfortunately it takes sometimes more then one try to accomplish this task. Hope all are warm and safe, Siobhan P.s. Would really be interested in seeing if ayone might be able to give me a hand with this bluetooth thing.. Try the hash sign and numbersign? As well as not being able to 'duplicate' your issue, did FS give you the proper procedure for inputting a number into a password using contracted braille input - on the Focus 40 Blue? I can understand how a number sign would be misinterpreted as a ble contraction, but, in a computer logic, I don't know how you'd tell the machine using contracted braille to make an exception that does not apply in all circumstances. You'd need to turn off both contracted braille input and output to get "computer Braille", via the Settings Center, or braille Options General Translation. ----- Original Message - From: "Siobhan" To: Sent: Thursday, December 23, 2010 11:51 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus 40 Blue difficultiesusingcontractedimputandjaws. Hi Flor. Unfortunately FS can't duplicate this, so I don't know if it's just this computer setup. I went and I sort of got the dvd to work, it started playing except i couldn't do anything else. I couldn't even shut off the dvd, or even close windows media player once it was shut. so I guess i'm on the hunt for an accessible dvd software. Anyone? I don't have much to play with, so price is a factor. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Hi everyone. I got a version shippedwith this studio xps laptop, and i tried to play a dvd. It started, then sort of sat there. I hit enter too and nothing seemed to work. If it doesn't work I may just uninstall it. If anyone has accessible dvd choices let me know. Thanks. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Mark: just uninstall jaws, and as it starts, it will let you uninstall or modify the jaws, that's the best way of repairing it. Re: [JAWS-Users] Disk cleanup
It's exactly what it means, IE cleaning temp files, recycle bin and other crap on your pc. It takes awhile to scan the hard drive, so be patient. Once done, you are presented with a list of check boxes, rycycle bin and it will say the number of kilobytes such as one thousand forty kb and it will also give the state of the box checked or not. To check, simply tap the spacebar, it then says checked do this with everything in the list. There is not, a danger of screwing around with something you don't know what it is. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Twitter
I used jawteron my windows xp and it was fantastic. I do agree that for someone who is not comfortable playing with the kmap files and jaws itself it is a little scary. Heck, I even needed to reinstall it after I messed up, but if you're game the instructions are wonderfully written and it was human error that messed me up not the instructions. I'm willing to help anyone who wants to, the installation of jawter. Once done, you will like it i'm sure. I only wish I could get it on Vista sixty four saddly it chooses not too. - Original Message - From: "Gerald Levy" To: Sent: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 8:42 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Twitter I'm on Twitter myself (twitter.com/bwaylimited) and find that it is pretty accessible with JAWS. There are scripts available that are supposed to make it more accessible, but I don't see the purpose. Re: [JAWS-Users] try it again-moneytalks
Marilyn, all I keep reading is something all about forwarding emails and how to strip addresses and things. And at the end, after telling us not to, it wants us to send it to everyone we know. A bit hypocritical, but just my oppinion. - Original Message - From: "Marilyn Walker" To: Sent: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 9:17 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] try it again-moneytalks Do you really know how to forward e-mails? Most of us DO NOT know how. Do you wonder why you get viruses or junk mail? -- Every time you forward an e-mail, there is information left over from the people who got the message before you -- namely their e-mail addresses & names. As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to every email address that has come across his computer. Or, someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail to them in the hopes that you will go to the site and he will make five cents for each hit. That's right, all of that inconvenience over a nickel! -- How do you stop it? Well, there are several easy steps: -- (1) When you forward an e-mail, DELETE all of the other addresses that appear in the body of the message (at the top). Highlight them and delete them, backspace them, cut them, whatever you know how to. You MUST click the 'Forward' button first and then you will have full editing capabilities against the body and headers of the message. If you don't hit the forward button first you won't have full editing functions. It is annoying to most people to have to scroll through 200 e-mail addresses before you get to the email. -- (2) Whenever you send an e-mail to more than one person, do NOT use the "To:" or "Cc:" fields for adding e-mail addresses.. Always use the BCC: (blind carbon copy) field for listing the e-mail addresses. This is the way the people you send to will only see their own e-mail address. When you send to BCC: your message will automatically say 'Undisclosed Recipients' in the 'TO:' field of the people who receive it. That way you aren't sharing all those addresses with all and sundry. -- (3) Remove any 'FW:' in the subject line. You can re-name the subject if you wish or even fix spelling. -- This one is very important - please read and heed. (4) ALWAYS hit your Forward button from the actual e-mail you are reading. By Forwarding from the actual page you wish someone to view, you stop them from having to open many e-mails just to see what you sent. These are the ones that often end up having picked up a virus from somebody. This is really important! -- (5) Have you ever gotten an email that is a petition? It states a position and asks you to add your name and address and to forward it to 10 or 15 people or your entire address book. The email can be forwarded on and on and can collect thousands of names and email addresses. A FACT: The completed petition is actually worth a couple of bucks to a professional spammer because of the wealth of valid names and email addresses contained therein. If you want to support the petition, send it as a separate message or letter to the intended recipient. -- (6) Some of the worst e-mails are the ones that say something like, 'Send this email to 10 people and you'll see something great run across your screen.' Or, sometimes they'll just tease you by saying something really cute will happen. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN! -- (7) Before you forward an Amber Alert, or a Virus Alert, or some of the other ones floating around nowadays, check them out before you forward them. Most of them are junk mail that's been circling the net for Years! Just about everything you receive in an email that is in question can be checked out at Snopes. Just go to: http://www.snopes/>http://www.snopes. com/ -- It's really easy to find out if it's real or not. If it's not, please don't pass it on. So, please, in the future, let's stop the junk mail and the viruses. -- Finally, here's an idea!!! Let's send this to everyone we know (but strip my address off first, please). This is something that SHOULD be forwarded. [JAWS-Users] double speaking when tabbing through fields in windows mail
Hi all. Using the latest build of Jaws ten, and when I tab from the to to bcc to subject field, I hear jaws speak the email address twice. Like in this note, it said jaws-us...@jaws-users.com then again, then the name of the field. Has anyone else had that? Thanks for your help.
