  Hello Stu,

The link on the web page for viewing the March descriptive video service
schedule does open a PDF file. It is a 26-page untagged document. I
suggest that if you are using Adobe Reader that you set it up to open PDF
files on web pages in Adobe Reader and not by using the Internet plug-in.
If you are interested in doing so then open Adobe Reader and press CTRL-K to
bring up preferences. A list of 26 categories will be shown. Press the
letter I until you hear the Internet category choice. Use the tab key to
move to a checkbox that determines if the Adobe Reader opens PDF files by
using the Internet plug-in or in the Adobe Reader itself. Use spacebar to
uncheck the item if it is checked. This will associate your Adobe Reader
with PDF files linked to on the Internet. After removing the checkmark from
the checkbox use tab key to the OK button and press enter.

After making the above change, pressing enter on a link like the one that
points to the March schedule should open the document in your Adobe Reader
instead of in your browser. If you prefer to download the file instead of
having to open it with the link each time, you can move to the link and
either use the application key or a right mouse click simulation to bring up
a context menu. Use down arrow in the menu to the save target as choice
and press enter key. The dialog box asking if you want to open or save the
document should appear. Use tab key and move to the save button and press
enter. In the resultant save in dialog make note of which folder the file
will be saved in. use tab key to move focus to the save button and press
enter. You can then navigate to the downloaded file and open it. When you
open the file you will be told that the file needs to be tagged and prepared
for reading. Use tab key to move to the start button and press enter.

In the March schedule, shows are listed in order first by date and then by
time. Use up and down arrow to move through the displayed page. use
CTRL-Page Down and CTRL-Page Up to move a page down or a page back up at a
time. You can use insert with page down keystroke to read a status line,
which will show you the current page number that you are reading and the
total pages in the document. Use caps lock with page down to read the
status if you use a laptop configuration.

In this particular document, using the find command will quickly move you
to the date you want to view. Dates, days and years are shown in 2-digit
format, each separated by a slash. use CTRL-F to bring up the find dialog.
If you are wanting to view programs listed for March 29th, you would first
bring up find using CTRL-F and then type in 03/29/09 (without quotes).
Press the enter key to activate the find command. After waiting a couple
seconds use function key 6 to move to the found text. Each time you perform
a find command, use F6 to move to the found information. You will be told
when no entries are found, but for this document you would know not to look
  for anything past 03/31/09.

  Take care.

Yep, I called them, but sighted folks you know. But my wife, smarter than I am,

She wen to the home page of the site, went the store location and entered,
brought up the edit field for a search and entered the zip code and enter and
bingo up came the local store, arrow down to the weekly specials and entered
and there were the store ads. Got to pat her on the back. Thanks a bunch for

Stu, have you contacted the store's headquarters? Not that it will help
much, but you should tell them about that Target case that Target lost
because of its inaccessible web site. I would be willing to write to the
company on your behalf and, perhaps, others on this list would do so as
well; strength in numbers? Tell them to look at the Kroger site; you can't
order for delivery but at least you know what's on sale. marilyn

message on the computer that outlook express is not responding, so he can't ask
the question. He is using jaws 9, XP. After the labor day holiday he booted up
and service pack 3 started installing. When he goes to outlook express he gets
the message that outlook express is not responding, he can go to the web with
no problem. His anti virus is pc cellin probably didn't spell that right. Got
any ideas as to what his problem is?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Word2000 short cut key

  Hi:
I have a short cut key (ctrl+alt+W) for Word2000 and for about the last
month: the short cut key works the first time after a boot-up. After the
first time, it does not bring-up word and the cursor displays jaws9 on the
desk top, the cursor is frozen on this icon and can't be moved untill the
desk top is refreshed. Now I have placed a word icon on the desk top and
by clicking on this icon word 2000 can be brought up. Now another strange
thing when word comes up instead of beeing doc1 it may be in anything from
doc2 to doc9 with data from various data files. Now I have performed the
following: repaired word2000 and jaws9 with no results.
  I am using the following: Pentium4 with 1gb,XP-SP3, JAWS9 latest build, AVG8
(free), super antispyware4, CCleaner. Now the problem occured before
CCleaner was installed, so I don't think it is a problem but I wonder if
AVG8 or Super antispyware could have an effect?
The problem is annoying so any help would be appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] word question

2008-05-23 Thread Stu
I am using jaws the newest one, and office 2000. I use word a lot. Here is the
problem that is happening. In a folder I have a number of word documents, I
open one up and work on it, close it save what I've done and all if fine in the
document but another document has show up in the folder and it is a temp
document of the one I was working on and I cannot delete, it says the disc is
full. The only way I can get rid of it is to shut down and I get the message
that word is open and I have to enter on the end task button. When I reboot I
can go to that folder and enter and delete the temp document. Also when I open
a word document it says document 1, open another it says document 2 and so on,
the only way it goes back to being number 1 is by rebooting. Got any ideas as
to what is going on.

  Stu,

It would be interesting to know if you are able to reproduce this issue
using Word XP, 2003 or 2007. The only reason I am thinking of this being an
idea is because there may be the posibility of this being fixed in one of
hte versions of WOrd released over the last 8 years.

Document 1 and document 2 is the way Word works. It remembers how many new
documents you've opened since the last time you rebooted. The temp file is
created when you open any Word document. I'm not sure why Word is not
releasing it and you have to reboot to get rid of it when you close the
  original. It normally should.

Morning folks, I hear that AVG, free version will not get updates or be
supported after May 31, is this correct? Also version 8 does not work for the

all have a virus protection that you are using and is very assessable , could
you tell us about it.

[JAWS-Users] access

2008-03-31 Thread Stu
Accessibility is always going to be a point to complain about especially for us
blind folks. It all revolves around the dollar and the blind are such a small
minority, our money is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the money coming
from the sighted community. A lot of accessibility is just financially
unprofitable. However we do pay for accessibility through our screen readers
and that is probably where our complaints about accessibility should be
focused. We pay for that and they depend on our money for them being around. I
realize that all programs out there will not be accessible to us but those that
are, the screen reader companies should provide a list of the products and
programs that are workable for us.

  Hi,
I am having a little difficulty moving around in winamp getting to an
audiobook. Perhaps I haven't saved the book to the correct place, as well, I'm
not sure how I should be opening the book to listen to it.
Currently I've saved the auiobook (wma file) to music folder in my docs. When
I go to open it I have several choices: press enter or choose one of several
option from the application key. What is the best method? Should I be able to
get to this book from the winamp main window? And should it be on some winamp
list, how does that happen?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  Hello Stu,

One way to do it is to use the dictionary manager.

  1. Move on to the symbol and select it by using the shift key with the
  right arrow key.
  2. Copy the selected character or symbol to the clipboard using CTRL-C or
by choosing the copy choice from the edit menu. (Get to the edit menu with
Alt-E, arrow down to the edit choice and press enter).
  3. Use Insert-D to bring up the dictionary manager for Microsoft Word. If
you are using a laptop in laptop configuration then use Caps lock with D.
  4. If you want the change to apply in all programs then bring up the
default dictionary file by using CTRL-Shift-D when in the Microsoft Word.JDF
file. Otherwise the change only applies to the active program, in this case
  Microsoft Word.
  5. Press the spacebar on the Add button.
  6. In the Actual Word edit box paste the character you copied to the
  clipboard by using CTRL-V.
  7. Tab to the replacement word edit box and press the spacebar one time.
  8. Tab to the OK button and press the spacebar.
  9. Use CTRL-S to save changes.
  10. Close the dictionary manager by using Alt-F4.

I have just purchased a new computer, and for some reason I can't install
Spybot. I'm not certain if it's a Jaws issue or not. I get to the point of
asking what language I want, and when I select the next button, the program
exits. I've downloaded another copy of the file, but that didn't help. I use
Nod32, and I turned off the antivirus, but that didn't help either. I'm
using JAWS 8. Any suggestions what the problem might be or where I can get
another copy of the program? It is spybotsd14.exe. Thanks.

  Vicki

[JAWS-Users] reading a word doc

2007-11-21 Thread Stu
I am using version 9 on a XP machine, sure hope I can explain what is
happening. I copied a article and pasted it in word, cleaned from the first
line upwards, went the last line and cleaned downward. I then went to the top
and did a read all. The last word in a line and the first word in the next line
are read together like they are one word. Went back and read by word and at the
end of a line it says blank like it is supposed to and it reads each word
separately, but in a say all it puts the two words together. Can anyone
duplicate this and see if it is a bug or just my system?

Actually in jaws 9 I find that this feature works better for my needs than
any other previously because it retains the formatting. The reason I say
this is because when I balance the check book I copy the information from my
bank's web site paste it in to note pad so I don't need to be signed in the
server longer than I have to be.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Copy and paste in JAWS 9

  Hi
Well, my curiosity got the best of me and I downloaded the full version
of JAWS 9. After installing it I proceeded to go to my college website and
copy and paste the weeks assignment to a file on my hard drive. When I
reviewed the assignment I found that all that was pasted in the file was the
title of the assignment and what appear to be a couple of garbled lines
below it. What did I do wrong? What can I do to change this so I can copy
and paste from websites? It is a requirement for my college studies.

  God bless,
  Mark
