Re: [JAWS-Users] changes last Fall to bank of America web site

2018-07-22 Thread Vicki W.
I think I worded it wrong. I just press enter on the menu or link, for
example, bill pay is not expanded, so when I press enter on bill pay, it
opens it up to take me to the bill pay page.

Hope that makes sense.

The very first thing I need to do, though, is use my JAWS curser to maximize
the page so I can sign in.

Vickie,

This is helpful. Can you explain what you mean by open up the tabs?
What are the key strokes for this?
Are there any key strokes other than control-tab?

Thanks,

It sounds like you want to purchase Office 2016, and not Office 365, which
is a subscription-based service. For multiple licenses, I think you'll
need
to get at least the home/business version. As far as I know there are
three

"grades" of office suite: personal, home/business and professional. I know
the personal version does not come with multiple licenses. The
home/business

might be three, but I can't remember for sure, so you'll have to look into
it.

[JAWS-Users] note on my problem adding Facebook friends

2018-07-04 Thread Vicki W.
Just in case others start a new Facebook account, I discovered that Facebook
automatically blocks your adding friends via a request for awhile after the
account is opened. You can accept requests, but cannot add friends or see
posts. Seeing posts will last until you have 10 friends, but how long you are
blocked from requesting friends is up to them. I'm still blocked.

Just wanted to let anyone know that it's not a JAWS issue.

Re: [JAWS-Users] adding a friend on Facebook

2018-07-03 Thread Vicki W.
Well, now I can't log in and I believe it is just a security for a new
account. I haven't been on Facebook for years and deleted my old account at
that time.

This is a new account and first they e-mailed me a 5 digit security code to
approve me with that e-mail.

Then they wanted my cell phone number before I could log back in. I wonder
what people do who don't have a cell phone because there was no option to
get beyond this step.

I gave them my cell phone number and they sent me a six digit code to
approve my cell phone.

Then when I tried to add a friend, as before, I got the message not to
request people I don't know and there was an okay button. This happened
before, so I pressed okay and then they said they needed a photo with a
clear picture of my face and then they could approve me and would delete
that photo from their server.

That was two days ago and no news yet. I still can't log in after they
logged me out.

What a process!

Vicki. You said you wanted to turn the caps lock off when you need to use
the shift key.
I may be misunderstanding you here, but, the caps lock and the shift key
are 2 different keys. Therefore, other than using the caps lock in the
laptop layout, you wouldn't use the caps lock to capitalize one letter.
but you know that.
Unless you have a strange keyboard like I have that has only one windows
key.

Hi Vicky. Are you asking how to temporarily disable the caps lock key as
the

jaws modifier? I think you have to change the keyboard layout to do this,
however you can toggle the capslock on and off by double tapping it

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS keystroke needed

2018-02-07 Thread Vicki W.
I was just looking for the key itself, which is the caps lock and how to
turn it off when I need to use the shift key.

For some reason, tapping it twice quickly has no effect. If I change the
JAWS key to another key, my caps lock key works fine, so I know it's not an
issue with the physical key on the keyboard.

I'm just wondering if there is something else I need to adjust to get it to
function correctly when tapping twice to use as a caps lock key.

not sure what your looking for hear;
the capslock key is the insert key if you are using the laptop layout,
the keystroke to bring up the jaws cursor is: capslock+p,
to bring up the pc cursor, capslock+semi colon.

would just stop working.

I would do the jaws dump command and then try to bring it back with the

[JAWS-Users] problem with webpage

2018-01-16 Thread Vicki W.
Good Afternoon,

Has anyone had experience using the Quest Lab webpage reading lab results and
then trying to save them? I used to be able to find a save option, but now it
won't show up with any version of JAWS I have tried.

It is there using a symbol, but that won't even read by just saying graphic.

Any key strokes someone knows of that will save the .pdf lab results document?

Thanks.

Hi Vicki,

After opening the "empty" pdf, hit JAWSKey+spacebar followed by "od"
(without the quotes).
This invokes the OCR document scan. It will take a bit of time for the
scan, depending on the size of your document.
The result is then displayed in the virtual viewer.
If you wanted to, once the scan is complete, you could select all of the
text, copy it to the clipboard and paste it into a text file.

processed. I will be calling about that issue soon unless someone else has a
solution.

Now, however, I have a problem with my desktop and JAWS 2018 which I didn't
have before.

When I got home, JAWS said it was in the 40 minute mode, which happens very
rarely and will resolve with a reboot, which I did.

That didn't work. I tried a reauthorization twice which said it was successful,
but it wasn't.

I then completely uninstalled and reinstalled from a new download on the
webpage. It still didn't work. I made sure to double check my authorization
number each time.

When I checked my number of keys, it was still at 3, so nothing had changed.

The strangest thing, though, was when I went into the about section and found
that the serial number wasn't mine. I reinstalled twice more with a fresh
download and the serial number still isn't mine but the authorization key is.

What could be causing this problem and is there a fix I can try before calling
Freedom Scientific with both my laptop and now my desktop problems?

I do have another version of JAWS on each computer with the correct serial
number and they are both working fine.

Thanks.

I'm more suspicious that it's just JAWS. Ever since JAWS 17, there has
been

a "pause" effect most often occurring when opening a PDF document, and
opening Outlook. I also noticed it pausing when launching ResearchIt, or
the

JAWS find on a web page. Always around 15 to 20 seconds of silence before
speech returns. Still happens with JAWS 2018, and I'm unhappy to hear that
it seems to also happen with your Windows 10. I'm still running Windows 7
32-bit on a Dell Latitude. This never happened with JAWS 16 or earlier.

I temporarily lose speech often when accessing an SD card in my built-in
card reader. Here's what happens.

When I insert my SD card into the card reader, most times I lose speech
for about 20 seconds and each time I take some action the same thing
happens. For example, I must wait about 20 seconds or so after inserting
the card before I can arrow up and down to locate a folder. Once I get
speech, I can arrow up and down fine, but as soon as I enter on a folder
name to open the folder, I lose speech again for about 20 seconds. The
same thing happens when I press the applications key to bring up the
context menu. I must wait the 20 seconds or so before I can arrow
through the menu.

I'm running JAWS 2018 on Windows 10 version 1703, although this same
problem occurred on JAWS 18 on this computer. This only happens with SD
cards and not absolutely every time, but most times. Accessing the local
SSD, external USB drives and network drives all behave as they should.

I suspect this might be an issue with some setting in Windows 10, but I
have no idea what setting or where to look for it. And perhaps it's
something altogether different. I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello Vicki,

In addition to the many suggestions you received, I thought I would
mention that when using Word you can use a combination of Word keystrokes
to produce several accented characters. Further down in this message is a
table of some of them.

In Word, you can use AutoCorrect to always use the accent you want. Go
into Word options. In the category list arrow down to the Proofing
category. Tab to the AutoCorrect button and use spacebar. In the Replace
edit combo box type the spelling without the accent. Tab to the With edit
box and type the word with the accented characters. Use the OK button
until back in the document.

For example, You could use Therese in the Replace box and then use the
accent on the first E when typing in the With box. If the first E is an E
grave you would type it by using CTRL with the tilde key followed
immediately by the E.

To produce

Press

à, è, ì, ò, ù
À, È, Ì, Ò, Ù

Ctrl+` (grave accent), the letter

á, é, í, ó, ú, ý
Á, É, Í, Ó, Ú, Ý

Ctrl+' (apostrophe), the letter

â, ê, î, ô, û
Â, Ê, Î, Ô, Û

Ctrl+Shift+^ (caret), the letter

ã, ñ, õ
Ã, Ñ, Õ

Ctrl+Shift+~ (tilde), the letter

Ä, ë, ï, ö, ü, ÿ

Ctrl+Shift+: (colon), the letter

å, Å

Ctrl+Shift+@, a or A

æ, Æ

Ctrl+Shift+&, a or A

œ

Ctrl+Shift+&, o or O

ç, Ç

Ctrl+, (comma), c or C

ð, Ð

Ctrl+' (apostrophe), d or D

ð, Ð

ø, Ø

Ctrl+/, o or O

¿

Alt+Ctrl+Shift+?

I personally always found it easier and faster just to remember the

alt-key

combinations. This may be difficult though, depending on how many accents

you need to use. I mostly use french ones, which are most acute and grave

accents between 130 and 140 or so. So, to type an acute lower case e, for

instance, you would hold down the alt key, and type "130" on your number

pad. Not sure how this works in Windows 10 yet, but XP let you access a

character map where you could search for and see the number values for
all

accented letters and symbols that are not available on the standard

Vicki,

JAWS makes a number of accented letters available in a list that you
access

by pressing JAWS key+4 on the number row above the letters. You arrow down
the list or navigate by first letter, then press enter on the one you
want.

Not all symbols are in the list, so it has limited use.

I'll leave it to others to explain how to assign a keystroke to produce a
given accented letter.
