[JAWS-Users] please help with language for jaws 15

2014-03-18 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi listers, I have joined this list a while now, and being a little shy
never introduced my self but now that I've come across a problem it's my
chance to say hello to all. Glad to be part of your community. I really hope
some one can help.
I installed the vocalizer expressive voices, up until here everything ok. I
found the Greek voice Melina and Alexandros and ok, but when I switch to
these voices they speak punctuation in Greek, and any minimized items in my
task bar that are in the Greek language. When I go into my documents and
there are folders and files in Greek it doesn't speak them, but if I choose
one of these files and open it and then minimize it and tab around when jaws
gets to the task bar it speaks the proper Greek. I did try to find away to
add the Greek language to the jaws menus, where it says languages, but can't
figure it out. Jaws says language submenu not available.
This sounds like a lot and I hope I didn't confuse you guys too much.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it so very very much.
Sincerely Zoe from Canada.

[JAWS-Users] strange noise and now no sounds on my keyboard.

2016-12-03 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hey all, hope everyone is doing well. Yesterday while on the internet, using
IE11, jaws 17 latest version, and windows 10 latest version, in the middle
of filling out fields on a web site, jaws stopped speaking, and a loud
buzzing noise occurred. If I had to describe it, I would say it was a loud
dial tone noise. My laptop seemed to freeze but I clicked alt f4 to get out
of the internet, I did this a few times. The noise didn't stop, jaws
wouldn't speak, and then the laptop restarted it self. When windows booted
up again jaws came on like always, all seemed normal. This morning I noticed
when I press the caps lock key it doesn't beep, also when I press the num
lock key to turn it on and off it also doesn't beep. Also I noticed when I'm
in my inbox and scrolling through my emails, when I would reach the bottom
or top of the list I would here a chime sort of sound, now that also no
longer seems to be working. It seems like sounds are not working correctly.
Any idea what has happened and how I can fix it?
Thank you to anyone who can help in advanced.

Zoe

Usually, suggesting someone do a JAWS repair is unhelpful, but it seems here
that JAWS is acting up and needs a repair.

2016-12-09 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi all can blind people create logos using jaws and windows? Is there
anything accessible to us for creating such a thing. I fooled around a

services of a professional or can I do this my self?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Zoe!

You might want to take a look at this, it is a program called Brush Tone
that's supposed to be an accessible paint program for the visually
impaired. I myself have never used it so I can't comment on how
effective it is, I ran across it on an internet forum I used to frequent
and saved it for future reference.

Here's the link to it's web site:

[JAWS-Users] navigation in windows settings help

2016-12-15 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi everyone, so a few days I posted about this strange thing I was hearing
with jaws and windows 10. Something that sounds like rezzar resources 104
dll, I finally figured out that it has something to do with amazon string or
something to that effect. The window gives me an option to continue or
cancel by clicking the yes or no button but jaws does nothing when I tab to
the buttons. I went into windows settings by clicking windows key I and I
went to programs and in there I found a list of programs and apps on my
computer. In there I see something called amazon assistant I click enter to
select it but nothing happens I tried spacebar but nothing happends. Even if
I manage to select it I try clicking application key to find the uninstall
but nothing happends. Does anyone know how to navigate in this list and can
give me tips on how to uninstall this amazon assistant?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Zoe!

Amazon Assistant is a browser add on that is specifically for use on the
Amazon web site. Usually you have to specifically ask for it to be
installed.

To uninstall it, you need to go into Windows settings, then to the
Programs and Features applet, in there you'll find a list of all the
programs currently installed on your computer in alphabetical order.
Step trough the list until you land on Amazon Assistant, then press
Enter to start the uninstall.

Note that I don't use and am not all that familiar with Windows 10, so
some of my terms may be slightly different that what Windows 10 presents
to you.

Hi,
How you uninstall apps is different between Control Panel and Settings app.
In Settings app, you need to press ENTER, then press TAB to go to Uninstall
button. I'll address this topic on the Win10 list later (upon request).

Hi Zoe!

Sounds like you have a corrupted Amazon Assistant install. What I'd
recommend is to reinstall the assistant, then try uninstalling it. The
theory here is that the reinstall will repair the installation, so that
you can successfuly uninstall it.

Here is a link to the Amazon Assistant web page where you can install it
for Internet Explorer, if you use a different browser, there are links
on the page to assistant installs for those.

Re: [JAWS-Users] navigation in windows settings help

2016-12-15 Thread zoe fiogkos
Actually the problem seems to be solved. I thank you so much for your help.
Joseph said something about control panel and that triggered my brain into
drive. I opened the start menu and typed in control panel and clicked enter.
In the control panel I clicked programs and then I clicked uninstall
programs. The list popped up with all the programs I have on my computer, I
found amazon assistant and I right clicked on it by pressing the
applications key and nothing happened so I clicked enter on the amazon
assistant and a wizard popped up. The wizard gave me the choice to remove it
so it did. I restarted the laptop and success this stupid thing is gone.
Thanks to all of you guys helping me and triggering my brain.

[JAWS-Users] help with removing amazon assistant

2016-12-17 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi guys, I wrote about this a few days ago and I thought the problem was
solved.
I go to control panel.
I click uninstall a program.
It shows me a list of programs.
I find amazon assistant.
I select it and click enter.
A wizard pops up and asks me if I want to change or remove the program.
I hit enter on the remove button.
I get a amazon assistant was successfully removed, finish button.
I click finish button and restart my laptop.
I look in the control panel uninstall program list and it's gone.
A few hours later it's back.
Any ideas how to get rid of this thing perminantly?
Thanks for any help.
Regards
Zoe

I have no idea what it is or how it got on my laptop. It's annoying me
because everytime I boot up my laptop or go to my desktop while using the
laptop I hear jaws say rezzarr resources 104 dll. And the window does
nothing. So someone said to uninstall the program but it won't go away.

I did that but it wouldn't go away. After many tries I opened processes
manager, I found it there and it said running. I stopped it from running and
tried again to remove it and this time it worked. So thanks to all who tried
to help. Thank God I figured it out.

Zoe,
Press windows X and open programs & features. Arrow down locate the Amazon
program, if it's there.
Open content menu enter on remove, then confirm.

Hi Zoe!

At this point all I can suggest is to google for "manually remove amazon
assistant" and see if there are instructions to manually remove it.

Good luck!

[JAWS-Users] help with outlook 2013 please

2016-12-31 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi all something strange and new today. When I'm in my inbox viewing my
email messages and I press shift tab to go to the tree view so that I can
arrow up and down through the many folders, I hear jaws say folder pain
minimize button.
This is something new, how do I get rid of it? I didn't change any of my
settings, so I don't know where this came from and how to get rid of it.
Please help.
Thank you in advanced,
Regards
Zoe

Hi there, I have the same problem. I emailed 2 different lists but no one
had any answers. I too remove the program completely from the control panel
but it just keeps coming back. I have disabled the search engine in internet
explorer but still nothing. I've been told to call Microsoft so they can
remove it for me but I haven't had the time. If you find any solution please
share I would appreciate it.

2017-01-06 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi jean and all, even though I disabled the toolbar and search engines in
internet explorer, it still came back. Now that I disabled the same add on
using jean's method through the control panel, it seems to have perminantly
gone away. I should have waited a few days before replying just in case it
comes back again. But I was so happy that it's gone and even after a
shutdown it seems to finally be dead, I couldn't control my self from
telling you all.
Thank you so much for all the help.
I am curious why when I opened internet explorer and went to internet
options, manage add ons, and disabled it, it didn't go away, but when I went
to control panel, internet options, programs, manage add ons, it
disappeared. Why would all most the same thing work one way but not the
other? In a way I don't care I'm just glad it's gone, but then my curiosity
gets the better of me.

Here's a suggestion, the one time I installed the Amazon Assistant,
thinking I might want it, I had no problems removing it and it never
came back, so I have no clue if this will help.

Before uninstalling it, go to the control panel, then to internet
options, then to the programs tab, then to the add ons manager. In the
manager, locate the Amazon Assistant in the list of add ons, and disable
it, then exit out of the manager and internet options. Then try
uninstalling it.

You might also want to try contacting Amazon, if this is a recurring
problem, they may have a solution.

Cheers!

I'm not sure if this is the answer, but based on my experience as a
software developer, I believe that it could be that when run from
Internet Explorer, many of the components are in use and may save their
status, which may not reflect that you disabled it, before exiting. But
from the control panel, those components aren't in use so your choice to
disable the add on doesn't get over written.

For that reason I always go through the control panel when I need to set
any internet options.

Anyway, I hope that that assistant is finally dead in your system.

Cheers!

Interesting I first used the control panel and it will not remove it. It
does remove but after a reboot it showsit's ugly head again.

After 2 restarts it has not shown itself. After removing it in programs and
features and setting internet explorer back to default settings I opened
msconfig. Here under services there was something for amazon. Unchecked it
and so far no more amazon assistant. Hope that it is not like the

[JAWS-Users] sorry off topic prayers and unsubscribe soon

2017-04-27 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi my fellow elf's and Mrs. Clause. Hope you are all doing ok. Unfortunately
I have no choice, I have to unsubscribe from all the email groups I belong
to. I haven't been able to check email and be online for a long time and it
seems I will be out of things for much longer. When I turned on my laptop
this morning I had over fifteen thousand emails waiting for me. Given my
situation I just can't keep up anymore. I pray that one day I recover and
are able to join my favourite groups again. My family is against me telling
people what's wrong but I feel in writing this email I'm also helping myself
to come to grips with my illness. I will remain subscribed a few more days
so that I may read your thoughts in hopes that your words might help me to
continue to fight this awful illness.
Again I'm sorry for the off topic post and I hope the moderators can find it
in their hearts to forgive me, and if one day I recover I hope they will
remember me and let me back in to my favourite mailing groups.
Before I tell you all my story, I would like to thank each and every one of
you for either your help on various topics, or your individual private help
through the phone or private email, or your messages of getting to know me,
or your words of encouragement when it came to the mac, jaws, NVDA, windows
10, household tips, cooking instructions, prayers, and harmless chit chat.
If I offended anyone in anyway, or gave anyone a hard time please forgive
me.
Here's my unbelievable story.
Last August I was doing a lot of gardening mostly weeding to be honest. I
was on my hands and knees from morning to night pulling weeds and keeping my
property clean. I am grateful to the good Lord for blessing me to have such
a lovely property but it's old and no one ever took care of the garden. The
result is weeds on top of my weeds. Chemicals are forbidden here in Canada,
and I haven't been able to find an affordable solution, so I'm left with
fighting weeds on a daily bases. I am a sun lover and adore summer, last
summer was the first time in my life that I couldn't wait for summer to be
over. I was exhausted and I have nothing to remember for my 2016 summer
except pulling weeds all most every day for the whole entire spring, summer,
and fall.
In August I noticed 2 mosquito bites on my elbow and 2 on my inner left
thigh. The bites were very itchy just like normal mosquito bites, so I
didn't think anything of it. I also noticed my nails were black underneath.
I thought it was dirt from the garden, to spite that I was showering every
single day and cleaning my nails, the next morning they would be filthy
again. Again I thought it strange but I justified it in my head as to much
gardening. In August my husband and I visited a few local restaurants and
spent two nights in a motel in north Ontario for a weekend away.
I wanted to try my hand at building a small business doing something I love
so I decided to start making my own bracelets and selling them online. I
have always loved costume jewellery and to spite my vision problems, I have
been taught that there is nothing I can't do. My mother always said "try and
if you fail, oh well, life goes on. Try different things until you find
something you are good at and you love doing." So I talked to my mom and
husband and they both backed me as they always do. My mother who adores me
spent over six thousand dollars to buy my supplies, and encouraged me on a
daily bases. My husband turned half of my computer room into a work space
with special lighting, magnifying contraptions, shelving, etc. My husband
and mom bought me bins with dividers and I spent months sorting beads and
other supplies by color, size, and type. I got help from someone on one of
these mailing lists and he helped me to create labels to label all these
bins. Everything was going great, or so I thought.
I spent hours teaching myself how to make these beautiful bracelets, I
finally got the hang of it after much trial and error and I was ready to go.
I registered on etsy.com and opened up a Facebook small business page. I
bought more supplies to host a launching party with food, drinks, and gifts
for my guests to introduce them to my creations and my new business. While
all this was happening, I noticed in October that the mosquito bites were
not going away. They had become scabby and even more itchier.
I showed my mom and she justified it just like I had done in my mind. Due to
my type two diabetes they were taking a long time to heal as many things do
when you have diabetes.
At the beginning of November as some of you already know, I started to have
problems with my right eye. Long story short for those who don't know, I
suffer from a cornea disease. My cornea was trying to break. This had
happened before but this time it was persistent and my doctor had to try
different medications to stop the cornea from breaking. While I was battling
this cornea problem I noticed my right arm becoming very itchy and the two
mosquito bites had now

This is a heart breaker for sure. If I enforce the rules then I would have
to get all hard case, but in this situation I do not wish to do that as she
is dealing with such a trajaty in her life.

Yet if I don't then those folks who depend on us following the guidelines
will feel like I let them down.

This is one of those many times that I do not like sitting in the big chair
so to speak. I think that possibly she might be so kind as to post her
personal email address on here so people can contact her with their
respective messages of support.

I have one that I will share with her alone and not on the list as it is not
for public viewing. I have her email address, but then again I have
everybody's' email address as whenever anybody comes or goes it crosses my
desk alerting me of such things.

What do you say Zoe, do you want to post your personal address so folks can
contact you privately? Trust me in the past couple of years this house has
had its share of problems and major operations. So I know what difficulties
arise in a persons' life.

I am a sun lover and adore summer, last
summer was the first time in my life that I couldn't wait for summer to be
over. I was exhausted and I have nothing to remember for my 2016 summer
except pulling weeds all most every day for the whole entire spring, summer,
and fall.
In August I noticed 2 mosquito bites on my elbow and 2 on my inner left
thigh. The bites

tutorial that covers everything from downloading it to customising it to
work best with JAWS. Let me know if you want it. Have a great one.

[JAWS-Users] a couple of questions concerning mail

2016-03-07 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi guys, so with all these messages back and forth I'm a little confused,
but anyhow. If I decide to go with windows live mail on windows 10 and jaws
17 are you guys all sure its compatible? One of the totorials given here on
this list seems to be for windows 7.
Another very important question for me at least. I have a lot of email
messages saved from throughout the years. Most of them I have converted to
text documents but there have been some that I have not therefore they have
the extention .msg if I start using windows live mail will I be able to view
these emails? Will they need converting and if so how would I go about
this? Would it be as simple as just changing the extention to whatever
windows live mail uses?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] using jaws and NVDA simultaniously help

2016-03-07 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi jaws list, here's a mind bogler that I hope someone can help with.
I asked this question on the NVDA list and there were a few suggestions that
unfortunately didn't work, so I thought I would ask you guys to see if
anyone here might have an idea.
Here's the situation.
I like using both jaws and NVDA simoltaniously but I've run into a little
problem.
Let's say for example I'm on the internet and I'm reading something with
jaws and I come across some Greek text, I usually press insert spacebar and
then s to turn off speech on jaws, I press control alt n to turn NVDA on and
I read the Greek. Up until this point fantastic, everything works great.
When I'm done reading the Greek I try to press insert spacebar and s to turn
speech on jaws back on, but it doesn't work. I tried using the NVDA sleep
mode but still no cigar. I actually half to totally exit NVDA for jaws
speech command to work. I was hoping I could find away to turn speech in
jaws back on without having to exit NVDA. Does anyone have any ideas of how
I can accomplish this?

Hey guys would a solution to my problem be to change the speech on off key
strokes to something else? If yes how would I go about assigning a different
key stroke to speech on off in jaws? So for example instead of insert
spacebar s maybe insert spacebar f? maybe NVDA might accept that and let me
do what I want, any ideas? Of course you guys mentioned the pass through
keystroke but I'm unfamiliar if NVDA has such a keystroke and what it is.
Maybe I'll ask there and see what they say.

.msg is an Outlook format. You can open those with most any text editor.

I don't think you can import mail directly into Windows Live Mail or even
Outlook
Express from Outlook.

There is a free program that can help with the process though, as long as
you
still have Outlook on your PC. It is called mailstore.

http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home-email-archiving.aspx

You can access your email that you archive through this program or import it

into your other mail client.

Thanks to all for all your suggestions. You were all a great help to me. I
played around with this issue all day and finally figured it out.
I now have the choice of exeting one of the 2 programs, or I can use both of
them simoltaniously by using the pass through command and the sleep mode
command in NVDA. It feels great to figure things out, but I didn't do it
alone. I thanked the NVDA community and now you guys the jaws community for

Be well everyone and from the bottom of my heart thank you all.

First, thank you for posting the steps you took to find a tentative
solution. Very helpful. I'm not sure I can be equally helpful. By turning
off NVDA's speech, you haven't unloaded it, and so it's still running in the
background. It makes sense in light of what you want to accomplish, which is
to move swiftly between speech programs. However, it appears they conflict
even when NVDA speech is off. Still, I wonder if closing and reopening Word
might be a workaround. Maybe JAWS would somehow reset itself. Even less
likely, I wonder if maximizing the window with alt-space, then x, might
help.

When you are arrowing on the desktop, events are sent to the screen readers
to speak the new item. In documents the reading is linked to the arrow keys
shift arrowing may read things. Why not load greek voices into jaws?

[JAWS-Users] some help with outlook please?

2016-03-08 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi everyone, hope you guys are all having a great day.
So I was going to install windows live mail on my windows 10 laptop running
jaws 17 (not latest version), but I was told for it to work correctly I have
to have reading pain turned off. My problem is this and I'm sure a lot of
you can relate to this. I belong to 10 or so mailing lists, and that means
hundreds of messages per day. The mail client I'll be using needs to
provide the following workable feature with jaws.
I need jaws to read the senders name, subject, and then to proceed to read a
couple of lines of the body of the email, so I can decide weather to delete
the message or to open it for further reading. Right now I'm using outlook
on windows 7 laptop with jaws 15 and this feature works great.
As I'm scrolling through the messages in my imbox, I here for example
message unread, from mike, subject help with ie11, and then the date. Then I
hear jaws say for example hi guys I'm a beginner with ie11.
At that point I can decide weather to just hit my delete key or enter to
open it. This makes it easy to go through hundreds of messages per day.
I'm sure a lot of you know where I'm coming from.
So my problem is this windows laptop doesn't have outlook and I've visited
the office.com website and either I'm having a brain fart, or the website is
screwed up, or it's just not offered.
I want to buy outlook email client and nothing else. I don't want the
office 365 subscription but I can't figure it out. Can anyone help? Can
anyone steer me in the right direction?
Thanks again for any help

Hi Zoe,
If you already have Outlook installed on your w-7 computer.
Just take your disk from microsoft and install Outlook on your w-10 laptop.
You also can go to your Microsoft account page, if you have purchased
Outlook in the past, you can download a copy to your w-10 computer.
In WLM, the reading pain does not work and play well with Jaws.
I go by the subject line myself, I go through many emails in a day as well.
Good luck...

Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed

[JAWS-Users] defending myself hope this is ok

2016-03-10 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Sorry everyone, but I feel like I have to defend myself. I made an innocent
comment on this list that obviously was misinterpreted by someone. I want
the owners of this list to know I am not an advocator of illegal software.
I asked for help using outlook on a windows 10 laptop and someone suggested
I use my old outlook cd from my windows 7 laptop to install it now on my
windows 10 laptop. I stated that someone installed it for me a long time
ago and I don't have a cd and don't know if it's a legal copy. We all have
been there, being new to technology and letting one or more people help us
with something we have no idea about.
I remember being so new at computers that when I got my first one, it just
sat there for months on a desk, because I had no idea even how to turn it
on. I remember hearing the terminology desktop, task bar, etc. and me
scratching my head and saying to myself huh? If my outlook copy is legal or
not, I have no idea. I certainly can't be held responsible for what people
did to help me over 7 years ago. I sent emails to this group asking for
help on how to navigate the office.com website so that I may purchase
Microsoft word and or outlook. Apparently I was kicked off another list
without warning because supposedly I use illegal software. For the record
this is not true. My family just spent this Christmas 850 dollars to buy me
a new laptop, I continued to spend 300 dollars to upgrade my jaws licence, I
spent 100 dollars to by the code factory vocalizer expressive voices for
NVDA, and if I need to I will spend money to buy outlook and word.
I hope this clears up to anyone on this list who I am, and my intentions.
People shouldn't be so quick to judge and accuse. If people use illegal
software that's their choice, I am choosing not to go that route, and for
someone to refuse me help and label me that way is unfair and unjust. This
topic maybe irrelevant to the list and I'm sorry for that but I wanted to
clear my name so that I don't get kicked off anymore lists unfairly.
Please all accept my apologies and thank you for listening.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. The truth of the matter
is that I was a little nervous about telling my story because I didn't know
how people would see it.
You know I live in Canada, and in the province I live in blind people are
entitled to free software, computers, cctv's, brail equipment, etc. for free
every 5 years, so if I really can't afford something I have the option to
wait until my 5 years is up and get everything for free. So this so called
expert who claims to want to help blind people so much should get his facts
straight before he so easily accuses people. Anyhow I am just glad that
everyone now knows who I am and where I stand so there are no more
misunderstandings when it comes to my name.
Again thanks so much for understanding and confirming my intentions as you
read my emails.

it wasn't you who had installed it. You aren't even sure it is illegal.
However, you wanted to make it legal, and your question went beyond that.
The software's possible illegality was a necessary foundation for why you
were asking your real question. If anything, it was a great illustration for
why we should always use legally obtained software.

Zoe

2016-03-10 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
I live in Ontario, as for email clients I'm still trying to figure out wich
one I'm going to go with. I have used wlm in the past, maybe 7 years ago,
not sure it's been so long. I'm going to have a look on the weekend at the
stores to see how much the Microsoft bundles go for. I have literally
thousands of save documents in the word format so I'm thinking I may go for
the office bundle for that reason. I'm still debating it. Regardless of
the debate going on about the reading/preview pain I guess I'm one of those
who uses it and I love it. I've never had a problem with viruses or jaws
and I want to continue using it so outlook looks like the way I'm going to
go. I know it sounds like I've made up my mind, but it really will depend
on the prices at the store. From what I gathered my husband has no problem
spending the money if it's going to make my life easier. Another reason why
i'm considering the Microsoft package is because I guess I will half to
spend more money but I use word in another language and I have the Greek
spell check etc. I do a lot of writing in Greek and having a spell check is
essential. Sorry for rambling but it's nice to see people care. Thanks for
everything, take care for now

Hi Zoe,
Wow, that quite a deal you have their in Canada. What province do you live
in. I am going to move there. As far as your previous questions go have you
tried using WLM again and see if it will work for you. A lot of people use
it and as far as I have heard most people think it is the easiest email
program to use. Just a suggestion instead of spending big bucks to just buy
Outlook.

George, subject help, and then jaws speaks a few of the lines of the body of
the email without me having to open the email message. In 2013 no matter

hello Zoe;

the sound your hearing when you up or down arrow within empty word document,
top and bottom of inbox,
is the top and bottom edge,
by default the sound is turned on,
you can turn this off,

if you wish to change a sound event notification you can do the following;

1, desktop,
windows+i=windows settings,

2, now right-arrow until you hear, personalization,
press enter,

3, now press the down-arrow until you hear themes,
press enter,

4, now use the tab key until you hear,
Advanced sound settings link,
press enter
5, you're now into the windows sounds page dialog,
tab 3 times to the listview,
now you can use the down-arrow key to find a specific sound, example, "email

notification,

next, tab twice, here you'll find a list of possible list of sounds you can
choose from,
once making a choice,
you can now tab to test button, and press the spacebar,
if you're happy with the choice, you can tab to the apply button,
press enter.

Zoe,
To go from your inbox to the treeview folder list,
Press control + Y.

Or shift tab once and arrow to the folder ,
You can use first letter navigation also,
If outlook says folder close, press the right arrow to open and continue.

Once in a while, I hear the table dialog, but it doesn't change a thing.

It seems that you have the keyboard set to another language by default. The
Alt-Shift is used to switch the keyboard from one language to another; in my
case, the default language is English, but I also have Spanish installed and
when I press Shift-Alt it toggles to Spanish and back to English.

I suggest you go to the Control Panel, to Clock, language and Region and see
if you can make English your default language and keyboard.

[JAWS-Users] language packs for office 2013

2016-03-14 Thread zoe fiogkos
So on Friday I purchased my office 2013.
I tried to go to the office.com to get the free add ons for proofing tools
in another language but no luck.
Any ideas how maybe I could do it through the settings in Microsoft word?
I did find my old cd for 2010 and a long with that a thumb drive of an old
2010 language pack. Even though this is office 2013 would I be able to
install the 2010 language pack?
p.s. How funny is it that I got kicked off Jim's list and a week later I
found the cd for office 2010. Oh well everything happends for a reason.
Second p.s. thank you to all for your great help and support.

website. So what do I mean, there is a combo box to choose the language you
want, but when I open that box it doesn't let me arrow up and down to choose
the language. Anyhow after using the pass through key command a thousand
times I finally got to the greek language.
I have a question for you I'm running windows 10 jaws 17, office 2013. The
files I downloaded have the following extentions.-64.exe, and the other one
-86.exe
Do you know which one I should run?
The 64 or 86?

It told me to accept the licence I checked the box clicked continue and it
told me I'm all most there I need to restart word. I did this but it
doesn't work.
I purposely typed in Greek miss spelled words.
I click f7 and word tells me the spelling and grammer is complete you are
good to go. The only option it gives me is ok.
Any ideas? Is there maybe some setting I have to change in word?

Hi Brian I tried all of that but word would not recognize the Greek, after
some lengthy research on the internet and a call to Microsoft accessibility
it turns out that the file I have to run is proofing tools_el-gr_86.exe.
It does work now however it's not the greatest spell check. I think I'm
going to invest in getting a whole language pack I think it's 24 bucks, and
that isn't to bad. The language pack I have for 2010 works much better then
this free tool they offer. Thanks for trying to help.

Hello Zoe,

In Word 2013 you can set the default proofing language. Use Alt key
followed by R to get to the review tab of the ribbon. Tab to Language
submenu and press enter key. Set Proofing Language is one of the two items
in this submenu. Choose the Set Proofing Language. In the dialog box that
appears there is a checkbox for detecting language automatically and a Set
as Default button. Make sure that English United States is selected in the
list of languages before using the Set as Default button.

I don't have the earlier messages in this thread, so hopefully, this is what
you are needing.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] strange sound with jaws

2016-03-19 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hello everyone, Something very strange happened today. I was sorting my
documents folder. Cutting and pasting various word and text documents into
various folders. All of a sudden jaws started speaking with a lot of static.
Think of listening to the radio and all of a sudden you hear all this
statacky interference. I unloaded jaws and restarted it and now jaws is
speaking properly and clearly again. Has this happened to anyone before,
any ideas what would cause this?

speaking properly and clearly again. Has this happened to anyone before,
any ideas what would cause this?

[JAWS-Users] before i contact fs support does anyone have any idea?

2016-05-16 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi listers,
Has anyone had this issue, or knows how to fix it.
My issue is this, I'm using windows 10 and latest jaws 17.
I updated jaws a few days ago and today I sat down to sort some music on my
laptop.
I opened file explorer through a shortcut I have on my desktop which is my
music folder. I hear jaws say music multiview list box not selected Michael
Jackson 1 of 4.
I arrow up and down through the folder and jaws announces the different
files.
I hear the file I want for example Michael Jackson and I hit enter on my
keyboard, and jaws opens it.
And then I hear jaws say Michael Jackson multi view list box track 1 not
selected, and then here's the problem.
I can't up and down through the files with the arrow keys jaws announces
absalutley nothing.
No matter what I do with the arrow keys no response, I alt tab back into the
window but nothing.
My laptop is a touch screen, so if I put my finger on the screen and move it
around jaws announces the file names for example track 1 or track 2, and if
I double tap with my finger on the screen it opens the file as expected.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Could one of my jaws settings have gotten
screwed up with the update? Or maybe windows update screwed up something
with jaws? Any ideas on how to fix this?i want to be able to use my
keyboard to go through my files and open them like before, I don't want to
use the touch screen. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards
Zoe

Hey there, thank you for your input. So here is what happends.
If I shift tab I hear tree view, if I arrow down to music and I hear jaws
say music closed, I arrow left, and I hear jaws say Michael Jackson closed,
and of course I arrow left and it opens the folder
Then Itab and it takes me to the tracks.
So a different way of doing it but I guess a work around.
I do like hitting the enter key much better, this new way gives me a few
more keystrokes that would be nice to avoid.

Hi.

Could be you're somehow winding up with keyboard focus somewhere besides
the list box. This is a relatively common issue for me, you might try
shift+tabbing a couple of times and see if you can land focus back on
the list view.

Btw, I'm guessing you know this already but just in case, when you hit
enter on folders, JAWS isn't opening them, that's just Windows behaving
as it should to your keyboard input, and JAWS is just there to let you
know what's on screen.

Sorry if this seems extraneous. I feel drawn to point these things out
though because knowing these things can really help make efficient use
of one's computer in situations where there is no screen reader and one
is trying to get something done with no speech, or using a completely
different screen reader and you can benefit from knowing what
functionality will be consistent as it wasn't a screen reader thing to
begin with.

Hi.

I didn't intend to have you using the tree view to browse, what happens
to me is I get thrown into some no man's land and shift+tab twice places
me back in the folder view thing. I'm not sure what to suggest as an
attempt to fix your issue. Is this something that has like 3 or 4 items
in it, and they're in a horrizontal layout aka icon view? In that case,
right and left arrow would go to those. You can tab once or twice from
the folder view to a header thing and use left arrow on where it might
say icon view and it'll say detail, which will allow up and down arrowing.

[JAWS-Users] help with internet explorer on task bar

2016-06-08 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi everyone I need some help please.
Using windows 10 and latest build of jaws 17 I have internet explorer on my
task bar. I opened internet explorer and went to a website I frequent and I
clicked to download a file. I click alt n and save my file. I click alt n
and I click view downloads. I alt tab and click control w to close the
website which I originally visited to download my file.
I minimize the window that shows the download and it's progress.
I brouse through email and I decide to go back to the internet to search for
something. Here's the problem. I go to the task bar and now internet
explorer isn't there, it's replaced by the window that's downloading, how
can I open a new tab in internet explorer?
I tried to access some sort of file tab to find an option to open a new tab
but no such luck. Any ideas? I hope I've explained my situation properly,
and I hope I haven't confused you guys too much.
Thanks for any help provided in advanced.
Regards
Zoe

Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: help with internet explorer on task bar

2016-06-10 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi guys,
when I'm downloading from a website, I usually close the internet page after
I have chosen view and track your downloads. I only do this when I no
longer want to surf the net and I'm just waiting for my download to finish.
Regardless of my reasons, isn't it strange that I can't open internet
explorer if the view and track your download page is running? In windows 7
I did not have this problem, I could have 10 tabs open including the above
mentioned window and they were all individual and the shortcut on the desk
top remained internet explorer and I could access it at any time. Having
said that with windows 10 I don't have a shortcut on the desk top, it's
located in the task bar. If I have a page open such as google.com I can
bring that page up from the task bar and hit the shortcut to open a new tab,
but as I said above that isn't possible with the view and track your
download page.

Looking over your steps, I wonder why you close the main IE window before
the download has completed. Sometimes doing so can interrupt the download,
which happens, for example, on the BARD website. Besides, if you plan to
continue using IE, you could resume from that window. Kimsan's control-t
from the downloads window might also work, but I haven't tested it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] help with internet explorer on task bar

Try control-T to open a new window. You might want to change your taskbar
settings to show all windows- sounds like yours is set to show only 1
instance of a running app.

Hi guys, when this anniversary update comes out will we have a choice to
update? Will it be automatic like all the other updates up until now? If
it's a must and automatic update and it doesn't work properly with jaws or
nvda what are we as the blind community to do?

Hi,
Redstone (specifically, Redstone 1 (RS1)) is indeed the codename for Windows
10 Anniversary Update (also known as Version 1607). It includes an improved
Narrator, Cortana improvements, Edge extensions among other things. As far
as accessibility is concerned, it includes a bit more responsive UI
Automation.

See this post from Win10 group:
https://win10.groups.io/g/win10/thread/anniversary_update_updates/1997384?p=
,,,20,0,0,0::RecentPostDate%2FSticky,,anniversary+update,20,2,0,1997384

An item of note is Edge and UAC (User Account Control) dialog changes:
Microsoft has changed certain technical information about Edge that'll take
a while for Freedom Scientific (now part of VFO) to implement, and UAC is
now powered by the same platform that powers universal apps.

JAWS compatibility: I recommend waiting until at least 18 beta comes out
this fall. Although Insiders who uses JFW report it is working to some
extent, crashes were observed with Anniversary update preview builds for
some, and upcoming JFW 18 would have resolved them by now (unfortunately,
toasts are not announced in Windows 10 despite the fact that help balloon
notification is checked under verbosity settings for each level). As far as
universal apps are concerned, it's a mixed bag of accessibility, and use of
touch cursor is a must.

Enhancements in JAWS 17.0.2417 (July 2016)

The following is a list of improvements made between the JAWS 17 June 2016
release and the July 2016 update.

JAWS
list of 8 items
. We have been working with Microsoft to improve the accessibility of the
Mail app included in Windows 10. After installing this update, read-only
messages
you open are now read using the Virtual Cursor, similar to Outlook.
Additionally, just like in Word or Outlook, JAWS now announces when you turn

on or
off the bold, italic, and underline attributes in editable messages using
the CTRL+B, CTRL+I, and CTRL+U commands. While users should notice improved
performance
with the currently released Mail app, Microsoft has made a number of changes

as well to improve the experience which will be included in a Windows 10
update
that will be available in the coming weeks.
. Due to issues with obtaining results from 411.com, the People Search
Research It lookup source has been updated to use the web site 10digits.us.
To search,
you now only need to enter the person's first and last name. If you receive
too many results, you can narrow the search further by typing the person's
first and last name followed by a comma, and then the city and state, or zip

code. For example, John Smith, Saint Petersburg FL, or John Smith, 33716.
. Addressed an issue where the INSERT+4 keystroke could not be found using
the JAWS Command Search feature. This command opens a dialog box where you
can
select from a list of items such as Euro, Yen, Pounds, Trademark, Copyright,

bullet, plus or minus, etc. and the symbol for that item will be inserted
at the cursor position in the currently open document. If you know of any
other keystrokes that are missing from the JAWS Command Search, or are not
easily
found, please provide us with the name of the keystroke and the search terms

you are using to locate it so we can update the command descriptions with
this information to make them easier to find.
. When entering text in contracted braille using the APH Refreshabraille
display, addressed a reported issue where contracted words beginning with
dots
4-5-6 were not being correctly translated.
. This update contains new scripts from Corel to add JAWS support for the X8

versions of WordPerfect, Quatro Pro, and Presentations.
. Dictionary pronunciation rules have been added so that JAWS now correctly
speaks the name "Ai Squared".
. Resolved an issue with the Weather Research It lookup source in the German

version of JAWS not displaying the temperature.
. In response to customer requests, you can now configure braille input when

the braille language is set to English - United Kingdom.
list end

Microsoft Excel
list of 3 items
. Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reporting background color changes in

Excel after turning on "Font, color, and attribute changes indication" in
Quick Settings.
. Addressed issues with opening drop-down lists contained in cells.
. Addressed an issue where structured braille stopped working correctly if
focus moved to a menu and then back to the spreadsheet.
list end

Web Browsers
list of 3 items
. Addressed certain instances where combo boxes on a web page were not being

shown in the virtual buffer.
. In addition to announcing "has pop up" on aria menu buttons, JAWS now also

says "has pop up" for any element that includes the aria-haspopup property.
. Resolved an issue where JAWS was not always announcing the change in
status for toggle buttons in Internet Explorer.
list end

Windows 10
list of 3 items
. Resolved an issue where JAWS support for the Windows 10 Calculator was not

working as expected.
. Improved JAWS performance in the Windows 10 Open With dialog box, which
allows you to select the application to use to open the current file.
. The JAWS settings for the Windows 10 Task Manager are now loaded as
expected.

. We have been working with Microsoft to improve the accessibility of the
Mail app included in Windows 10. After installing this update, read-only
messages you open are now read using the Virtual Cursor, similar to Outlook.

Additionally, just like in Word or Outlook, JAWS now announces when you turn

on or
off the bold, italic, and underline attributes in editable messages using
the CTRL+B, CTRL+I, and CTRL+U commands. While users should notice improved
performance with the currently released Mail app, Microsoft has made a

Re: [JAWS-Users] Signature, Creating Them In Outlook

Thanks mike sounds easy enough but I find that jaws isn't reading all the
fields, but because I've done it many years ago, I put my mind to work and
did some guess work and I was able to get it done. It's a little sad that
jaws wasn't reading everything properly but oh well that's technology for
you. I'm sure freedom scientific will take care of this problem eventually.
Thanks again so much.

said when I return will I find the faith, not will I find faith, but the
faith. So many will be shocked when he comes again in all his glory. My only
hope is that it won't be too late..

Creating a signature in Outlook.

Press alt T for tools.

Press O for options.

Control tab to the mail format page.

Tab until you find the signature picker button and hit enter.

Tab to the new button and hit enter.

You can give the signature a name and then tab and the default is a start
from a blank signature radio button.

Tab to next and hit enter.

Type in what you want your signature to be.

Tab to finish and hit enter.

Tab to okay and hit enter.

This will automatically put your signature in your messages. If you don't
want it there, when you are on the mail format page, you can tab to a combo
box right before the signature picker button and set it back to none or pick

a different signature to be your default.

Tab to okay and hit enter.
Go Back
Take care.
