I don't think you really need to do anything to the basic setup to make it
accessible. It's not as finicky as the older systems were like Xp.

There are things you can do for convenience, such as how you want folders
to
open, what you want on your desktop, etc. But, that's all personal
choice.

use of one hand. He has learned some computer basics and the use of JAWS,
though has some ways to go with this.
He has trouble because of his limited detxterity. I would like him to rely
less on his para, and hope to get some advice from someone on list here.
Somoe of the functions which require pressing two or three keys
simultaneously are the biggest problems.
I've told him I'm sure there are blind people using JAWS who have use of
just one hand, but I'd like to share any and all suggestions.
Thank you.

Lisa,

Once JAWS 9 is released, you would then have to purchase version 9 when
you upgrade. If you order 8 now with and SMA (that means you'll also
receive 9 and version 10), you end up paying the same price and will
ultimately get version 10 as well.

So your question is, how long before 9 is released...

We have been targeting a release date in late September but that has
slipped a bit already. We are completing some significant changes with
respect to Microsoft Office including the calendar and getting this all
wrapped up is taking longer than I had hoped. Since this is delaying
JAWS 9 a bit, you will have more time to delay the purchase but I would
not let it go past September in order to take advantage of the savings.

Hope that helps,
Eric

Nod32 will work with JAWS8, whether you tweak it or not; and the tweaks are
very minor - a matter of making the interface more accessible. I used AVG
briefly, before trying out Nod32, and I prefer Nod32 and have subscribed to
it. You can, in fact, 'set it and forget it'. It updates itself
frequently, sometimes three or four times a day. It also leaves a very
small footprint behind, taking up minimal computer resources. Which one one
likes may be largely subjective; but I've heard of AVG giving 'false
positives' and also not catching real positives. (I haven't heard that
about Nod32.)

John, they'll both work with JAWS 8, however Nod32 needs to have some
tweaking done before it will fully work, unlike AVG. Hope that helps.

Hi:
Yes Rick, It's good to keep an open mind. We are using the paid
version, and have been very happy with it. It found spyware that other
programs had missedwhen we initially installed it. It pops up once a
week with a window that says there were no suspicious items found, then
the window goes away.

To be specific, particularly to Hannah, there are two versions of AVG: AVG
Free and AVG Pro. We both use AVG Free, as, well, you guessed it, it's free,
smiles! Also Nod32 is very accessible as well, but that's not free. Hope
that helps.

[JAWS-Users] norton antivirus

2007-07-29 Thread betty emmons
Two years ago I bought a two year subscription to Norton antiviral. I have
windows xp and jaws 8.25 or what I believe is the latest jaws. I have a Del
computer which is 6 or 7 years old. I understand that Norton has become
difficult for the jaws user to use. I think I have avg something on my
desktop, but am not sure what it is other than I think it is also an antiviral
program. I also have southwestern bell dsl. I believe this might also have a
firewall as well as an antiviral program. How would I check these facts out?
And if I find out I have these programs would I still need to look for a
program such as nod 32? I am not a Mac user. I apologize if this message is
not clear, but, I have gotten a nasty case of pneumonia, so operating on half
cylinder so to speak. I thank you guys in advance for the help which will be
coming.

[JAWS-Users] I did it

2007-06-27 Thread betty emmons
I was having trouble with my video intercept which was saying video intercept
dcme. I had a friend check to see if all my hardware was in right and when he
said he had put my video card in it had popped halfway out. The computer was
getting hot and was dirty inside. I then installed jaws 8 by myself and it
corrected the problem. I would like to thank this list for giving me the
courage to do this on my own.
