Re: [JAWS-Users] Automating data from web to Excel

2010-04-14 Thread Ann M. Medlar

Hi all,
Below is a short description of what I would like to automate every night.
Each day I go to web to gather stock technical information. Here is how I
get data:

open IE
alt+a for favorites type s for stock analysis favorites folder
enter on link
press shift+control+k to get to desired place on site
There is a table of info about 6 columns with 52 rows
F8 to select table control+c to copy to clipboard
open Excel
control+v to paste
save Excel workbook
Would anyone know how I could set up this procedure to run so I don't have
to do it manually everyday?

Any direction is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ann

I can make a script for you, but are you sure that you need this to be
automatically done?

Send the address (URL) of that page and the usual name for XLS file.

That is so nice of you. I did not think it could be accomplished using a
script but more like a .bat file in dos. Sorry I don't know what file is
called in windows. I'll send you the link and my configurations with
placeholders?
I thought maybe I would need to learn a PC computer language but I sort of
know introductory scripting. I would love to learn more to improve my
productivity. Web site is not easily navigated but maybe you can give me
tips.

Ann

Good thing I copied stuff to my CF card already.
Thanks,
Ann

Surely a macro in Excel would be better? I have never tried to crate macros
in IE but that might be possible too.

I just had a look in IE. There doesn't seem to be a macro feature in
Internet Explorer but I think it could be done from Excel. I'll have a look
in a day or two, the opportunity sounds interesting.
