[JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 and VIPRE

2016-04-09 Thread Deb Caldbeck
Using Windows 7, JAWS 15, latest update of VIPRE for lifetime subscribers
and Outlook 2010. When using Outlook it and JAWS 15 crashed. When I entered
Outlook again it stated it had a problem with the VIPRE Outlook ad-on, and
that if I had more than one crash I should update the ad-on or disable it.
I disabled the ad-on. Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks!

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 15 question

2016-01-19 Thread Naomi Bolter
Hi everyone,

I've been made an admin on a work related distribution list in ms 2010 but I
cannot modify the list as I am unable to click on it with jaws.

I was told to open a new message and right click on the contact list I've
entered into the to field.

Does anyone know if there is another way?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 15 and Microsoft SharePoint.

2015-04-25 Thread Annette Carr
SharePoint is an internal network based program that allows sharing of
documents and information between users on the network. Each member has
their own access and can customize their so called home page within the
parameters of the template established by the SharePoint manager(s). The
SharePoint pages have a internet feel to them and can be as simple as just
a list of files, and as sophisticated as a portal for customers to register
for an event or provide input to a survey. There are many versions of
SharePoint. The most frequent ones that you hear about are SharePoint 2003,
2007, 2010 and 2010 Enterprise. SharePoint 2010 was billed as having an
included accessibility component, but if the template is not set up to
utilize it and the user setting up the page chooses not to use it, then you
guessed it, no accessibility improvement. The SharePoint associated with
Microsoft365 does not include the accessibility component.

Hi all,
I never post here, but I joined this list a long time ago. I have a
question. I'm testing the accessibility of a web site on Microsoft Share
Point. I know it isn't completely accessible, but I wanted to know if there
was anything I could do to accurately test it for accessibility using Jaws
15. I test for accessibility according to the standards listed in section
508 of the Federal Rehabilitation act.
I look forward to any suggestions/recommendations you can provide.
Thank you,

place. But if accessibility issues are later found, Section 508 clearly
puts the burden on the seller's shoulders. I am not saying anything new,
this aspect of Section 508 just seems to not be utilized to the extent it
should.

Good Morning,

Discover Technology has also approached my Federal Department. Due to
funding, only one of the Agencies has monies to purchase Discover 508. I
agree it is a good product and the usability makes life much simpler for a
person using adaptive technology, but why should additional money be used to
make a product accessible?

I believe the fix is for Microsoft to make their product accessible.

[JAWS-Users] RE2: [Discover 508, JAWS-Users] Jaws 15 and Microsoft SharePoint.

2015-04-24 Thread Dujari, Prateek
I believe there is an error in what you say. When I spoke to Discover 508,
they said they would have to install it on your employer's SharePoint server
space at the Enterprise level and there it could be done so for any number of
licenses including targeted to a specific individual. I recall it's not a
product to be installed on individual workstation computers on your desk and if
that is true, I think the cost is astronomical.

Jim,

No, what browser are you using?

If you find the search edit box, the search button is above it. When you
enter in your phrase, turn off the Jaws forms mode and then up arrow to the
search button. If you don't, you might be selecting with the stupid
instant-search feature.

Once you click on the search button, you can look with the header command to
find relevant results.

I have asked this question before and didn't' get an answer, so I will
phrase it
differently.

When I go to youtube and try to put in a search for something, here's what
happens.
I get a message that says use alt N and choose to show all content button.
This
sometimes works when I tell it to show all content. Sometimes it doesn't.
Now, if
it does work, and I try to type in my search, jaws works very slowly, and
when I
type in my key words for search, half the time, the characters aren't
spoken.
Sometimes, the search button doesn't show itself and I have to guess where
it is.
Consequently, youtube has become a pain in the lower part of my anatomy.
Smile. Any
ideas why all this should happen? I have W7 and jaws 15. Thanks for your

[JAWS-Users] jaws 15 with Office 2010 versus 2013

these training materials are similar for using Office 2013 I may go that
route.

thanks for any guidance.

Office 2010 and 2013 are similar, but not the same. The ribbon menus are
different and the 2013 ribbons contain much more than the 2010 version did.
Both should work well with Windows 7, and I currently am running Office 2013
on a Windows 7 and a Windows 8.1 machine. I have no problems. I will say
that there is no great benefit in using the 2013 version over 2010, and if
you know 2010 already, then I would probably stick with that. It is totally
a personal decision on your part to spend the money and put in the time to
learn the differences.

From what I hear Office 2010 2013 are similar but, how similar I'm not
sure. Since you have all your Office 2010 training material already know
how it works, if it were me, I would save the money until all the bugs have
been worked out for Jaws15 Office 2013 but, since J16 is out these 2013
bugs may have been addressed in the later Jaws version.
Take care.

Singing about God's love, pouring down from above.

Preparing to fly away, searching out their prey.

There is a free trial through September 15, 2014, price for a one year
subscription after that is only $39.99.

1.You get to listen to all pre-season games.
2. You get to listen to all regular season games.
3. You get to listen to all playoff games.
4. You get to listen to the superbowl.
5. You get to listen to the last three years of all NFL football games.
6. You get to choose the hoem or away broadcasters on every game.
7. You can listen from now through July 31 2015 before it renews on August 1,
2015, at the price of $39.99.

Personally, I think this is a cheap price for all the NfL games, very clear
audio of the games.
Let me know here on the list if anyone else buys a subscription like i am going
to do, let me know what you think.
sorry i did not post this sooner, I just found out about it.

Preparing to fly away, searching out their prey.

Awesome is the sight, their wings in flight.

Gliding towards the ground, their food soon found.

Tom,
Thanks for reminding me of Tune in radio.
I had the app buried in a music folder in my iPhone.
I don't remember, if the app was free or I bought it.
I did listen to the Yankee game.

I went to the Tune in website and saw they wanted money, so later on that.

in late October, early November. An annual ritual.

Hi. As I don't work for Freedom Scientific, it may be inappropriate for me to
answer this question. However, I can at least provide a reasonable guess,
based on the way we've seen FS supporting previous updates. As we get nearer
to the release of version 16, it is highly likely that we won't see any future
updates for JAWS 15. However, I remember at least one or two instances where
an update was released for an older version after the newer version was
released. FS could still release updates for 15 to fix very serious bugs and,
if any are reported, to fix security related issues. However, aside from those
scenarios I think it is likely that we won't see any more updates for 15.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 and Access 2010 Databases Not Reading Button Labels

2014-09-11 Thread David Goldfield
I realize that the issue with Microsoft access and screen readers is a complex
topic. Here's the situation.
I have a user who used JAWS 14 with a customized database using Access 2010 and
things seemed to read well with no problem. The database opened with a main
menu and each item read properly when the tab key was pressed. The user
recently was migrated to JAWS 15 and pressing the tab key just says the number
of the item, followed by the word button without reading the prompt or label
associated with that button. The prompt creator will not work in this
database. Using screen refresh and maximizing the window did not help. The
user's theme was set to Dell: I changed it to windows Classic and windows 7
Basic but nothing worked. What is now a bit odd is that loading JAWS 14
produces the same results, where the tab key just says button without reading
the prompt. We can use the JAWS cursor to read the prompts but I'm curious to
know if anyone could suggest other things I could try. Pressing insert-Q
verifies that Access 2010 scripts are loaded.
Thank you in advance for anything you can suggest.

This isn't a JAWS problem. It's caused by holding down a key for too
 long or
by pressing one too many times in quick succession. I think you can
 change
this behaviour in Settings, Keyboard, Layout tab. One way is to Change
 the
key(s) to something else or None. .

If you have a stuck key I recommend that you get a can of compressed air.
And then wash around the key with alcohol and then blow it out with the air.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 and Word 2010 question

2014-06-30 Thread Mike B.
Hi Greg,

Below are notes I've saved regarding your question. I'm sure any 1 of them
will help:

From: Brian Lee

For newspaper style columns the keystroke Alt+DownArrow key usually moves
focus to the top of the next column. However, JAWS uses Alt+DownArrow to
read a next sentence. If you use a pass through keystroke followed by
Alt+DownArrow focus will move to the top of the next column. You can use
JAWS key with the number 3 on the alphanumeric row of keys followed by
Alt+DownArrow key if you want to move to the top of the next column. If you
use Alt+UpArrow after using JAWS key with the number 3 focus should move to
the top of the previous column. If you want to read the information in a
different column on the same line you should use the JAWS cursor. Route
JAWS cursor to PC cursor and move a word right or left until you find some
text in a different column. Do a left mouse button click (if using a
desktop press the second key from the left on the top row of the number pad,
if using a laptop keyboard configuration then use the caps lock key with the
number 8 on the alphanumeric row of keys). Put PC cursor back on and focus
should be in the other column on the same row.

It is kind of complicated but I think these steps should work for you.
Brian Lee

From: Flor Lynch
In the Word Options (Quick Settings, Insert+v dialogue) ensure that the
page, Section, and multiple column breaks checkbox is checked. A
keystroke used to create text (or newspaper style) columns is:
ctrl+Shift+enter.

From:

If I am in the first column, and press, End,
Then the right arrow key, I move to the second column.
Then I press, End, again, and the right arrow key
And I am in the third column.
I can reverse this by pressing, Home,
Then the left arrow key
Seems a bit clumsy, but it helps me get at the information.

Hi Marilyn,

Unfortunately you won't be able to eliminate the ribbons but, the ribbons
are only used in Office, Outlook, Windows Live Mail that I'm aware of. If
ribbons are used in other programs others will have to tell us what they
are. Below are steps for putting your email IE shortcuts into the start
menu when using Classic Shell if,you have your email IE shortcuts on the
desktop. If your email IE shortcuts arre not on the desktop let us know
we'll have to give different steps.
1. Go to your desktop with, Windows key + M, highlight / select the
shortcut you want to work with
2. Press your applications key or shift + F10 to open the context menu.
3. Arrow down to, Send To, press enter.
4. Arrow down to, Start Menu, press enter. Pressing enter right here will
put a copy of the desktop shortcut in the start menu.

Mike, how can I eliminate these durn ribbons altogether? I installed

Hi Cuong,

Make sure that the virtual ribbons are maximized. To navigate ribbons more
efficiently the ribbons need to be maximized. The keystroke is, control +
F1. This keystroke is a toggle so, this keystroke will maximize minimize.
To check if the ribbons are minimized / maximized do the following:
1. Press the, Alt key, to open the ribbons.
2. Open the context menu with either the application key or, shift + F10.
3. Arrow up or down to the, Minimize, option. If, Minimize, is checked, the
ribbons are minimized Pressing, enter, on this checkbox, will uncheck it
close the context menu your menues will now be maximized.
HTH

Take care.
Mike

In About JAWS under help in JAWS you'll find your serial number and
locking code. The 28 digit authorization is supposedly on the packaging
of your JAWS CD. I retrieved my authorization number years ago from FS
Tech Support and keep in a Word file of important stuff. This said,
nothing works so seamlessly as the authorization CD for re-installing JAWS.

2014-04-26 Thread Tammy Freitag
Ok, just did some reading on FS. If you want to find your 20 digit
license number:
Open Jaws help
go to update authorization and click activate
Select the internet option for getting your authorization number
Your 20 digit number will appear in the edit box
Select the number, copy and paste it into a word document.

I just did this and it does work.
HTH!

This isn't a JAWS problem. It's caused by holding down a key for too
long or by pressing one too many times in quick succession. I think you
can change this behaviour in Settings, Keyboard, Layout tab. One way is
to Change the key(s) to something else or None. .

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 and Outlook 2013 crashing

2014-02-12 Thread Øyvind Lode
Hi all:

I recently reinstalled (clean install) Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on my PC at home.
I installed JAWS 15.0.6025 (64-bit).
I then installed Outlook 2013 which is 32-bit.

JAWS and Outlook crashes everytime I open a email message.

Today I installed JAWS 15.0.6025 64-bit on my PC at work running W7 Pro 64-bit.
At work I have Outlook 2010 32-bit.

So far so good here at work.

Have anybody else experienced frequent crashes in Outlook 2013 with JAWS 15?

Thanks

-Øyvind
