Re: [JAWS-Users] Moving Jaws Dictionary items

2010-06-03 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Dixie,

This morning I got it to work the way I thought it should work. I went into
the explore my settings choice for JAWS 11 and changed Microsoft Outlook
2007.JDF to Microsoft Outlook 2007.JDFOLD. I then took Outlook Express.JDF
from the JAWS 9 explore my settings area, copied it, pasted it to clipboard,
and renamed it as Microsoft Outlook 2007.JDF. Next, I copied the Microsoft
Outlook 2007.JDF from the desktop and pasted it in the explore my settings
area for JAWS 11. When I opened Outlook 2007 and launched the dictionary
manager the new file had all the entries I expected. I think what was
happening before was that I tried replacing the Microsoft Outlook 2007.JDF
in the explore my settings with the Outlook Express.JDF from the explore
shared settings. I have deleted the change and repeated the steps two or
three times this morning and the procedure worked each time.

Take care.

Hello Dixie,

I am starting to feel terrible! I tried my own steps today and they didn't
work! There must be something in the JAWS scripts that are preventing the
normal Windows functions that I suggested. I have done the steps I
suggested many times in the past with different programs and never had a
problem. It doesn't appear to be a permissions problem as I have my
permissions giving full control and I am showing as the owner of the folder.
I even tried opening the JDF file in Notepad, copying the text and then
pasting it in the other JDF file but when I closed it and saved it, the
changes I made were gone after I opened the target JDF file again.

I really apologize. I thought I had done this yesterday but apparently not.
I'll continue to investigate this and welcome any comments or suggestions
from other users.

After reading your message, I am not sure if you want to move the

entries

in
your Outlook Express JAWS 10 dictionary file to your JAWS 11 Outlook

JAWS dictionary file or JAWS 11 Microsoft Outlook JAWS dictionary

file. I

will give steps for each scenario. Before giving the steps let me

remind

you that if you want to have the same dictionary entries in Outlook
Express
in a newer version of JAWS you can do so by using the JAWS merge

utility.

The merge utility will not only merge your dictionary entries for the
given
program but also will merge your JAWS configuration files, JAWS

graphics

files, schemes, sounds, placemarkers and other personalized settings.

You

don't want to use merge if you are just wanting your JAWS dictionary

files

for Outlook Express to be merged. If you want to use the merge

utility

then
you can find the merge menu choice in the JAWS interface window and in

the

utilities menu.

There are two places to look for the Outlook Express.JDF file in each
version of JAWS. One of these two places is in explore my settings

and

the other one is in Explore shared settings. You can access each of

those

1.Use Windows key to activate the Windows start menu.

2. Move focus into the all programs group. In XP you can press

 and explore shared settings
for JAWS 11 as shown above. Press the letter M or if you type fairly
quickly then type M I C to move to the area of the given folder where the
Microsoft entries will be located. Use down arrow key in each of those
folders and see if you have a Microsoft Outlook 2003.JDF or Microsoft
Outlook 2007.JDF file. I am not sure which version of Microsoft Outlook you
are using.

4. Move focus to the desktop and find the Outlook Express JDF file
that you pasted. Move focus on to the icon so that it is selected and press
function key 2. You will be in an edit box where you can rename the file.
You need to leave the .JDF (that is the period and the J D F) part of the
file name. Rename the file to exactly what the one was called that you
found in explore my settings or explore shared settings for JAWS 11. If
it is for Microsoft Outlook 2007 then the file name will be Microsoft
Outlook 2007.JDF.

5. After renaming the desktop icon move focus on to it and copy it to
the clipboard by using CTRL+C.

6. Navigate into the explore my settings and/or the explore shared
settings folders for JAWS 11 and paste the file from the clipboard by using
CTRL+V. If you renamed it correctly you will be asked if you are sure you
want to replace, overwrite or something like that and answer yes.

The above should replace your current Microsoft Outlook JAWS dictionary file
in JAWS 11 with the Outlook Express JAWS dictionary file from JAWS 10,.

I apologize if this seems to be a long-winded explanasion. Let me know if I
can help you any further with this task.

Take care.
