[JAWS-Users] Perenial problem with radio bottons

2013-03-11 Thread Miriam Vieni
Well first, is that what they're called, radio buttons? Or is it radial
buttons? Anyway, I have had this problem before, on my previous XP computer
with Jaws 12 and on this WIN7 computer with Jaws 13 and whith my extremely
magnified Magic, I can see what's there and what isn't happening. I was
trying to do this NLS survey, actually, I was trying to do it twice and this
happened to me two times. There were these options to check and Jaws was
reading them and I could see these buttons to the left of each option. But
the space bar either wouldn't check the option at all, or it checked the
wrong option. So I'd try to get Jaws to read that line and I'd then use the
left arrow to go to the left of the first letter of the option I wanted.
Sometimes, that worked and I could check the option. But sometimes, it
didn't work at all. And then if I pressed shift tab to go back to where I
was at the beginning of the page, I'd be in Bing Search with a bunch of My
Favorites listed underneath. Does anyone have a suggestion for getting the
correct radio button checked? Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Hi Miriam,
According to Freedom Scientific, they're radio buttons. What happens when you
press r to get to the different choices? Are you positive they're radio
buttons, or could they be check boxes?

2013-03-11 Thread Dan Rossi

Miriam,

They are called radio buttons. If you remember the old style radios that
had big buttons on them. When you would push one button in, the one that
was pushed in, would pop out. The idea is that only one button can be
selected at a time.

Your problem may come from trying to look at the screen and listen to
JAWS. Just listen to JAWS. As you tab onto the radio button it will
announce the button selection, if that is the one you want, you can hit
the space bar. If you are using the arrow keys, sometimes you will hear
button before or after the label for that button. Hitting space on the
label won't do anything.Just tab and you should be fine. I took that
same survey earlier today and didn't notice anything strange about it.

2013-03-11 Thread Miriam Vieni
Well, that helped because I didn't know I was supposed to press R. So I was
able to answer more questions and now I've again been stopped by something
or other, but thanks. The survey is confusing because it mixes radio buttons
and check boxes and I was just stopped atain because there was a list of
choices that didn't appear to have either.

Well, it didn't work that way for me. I didn't look until I was forced to.
When I tabbed, It read the choice but when I pressed the space bar, it
didn't check the button. It did work if I pressed R which moved me from
choice to choice and allowed me to check the button I wanted. But I've
gotten stuck again because I'm at another point where they're asking about
what kinds of devices I use to read, and nothing is getting checked when I
tab from choice to choice. When I press R, it says, no radio buttons. And
there don't appear to be check boxes either. I know, I know, everyone is
completing this damn survey with no problem except me!

Miriam,

OK, instead of trying to figure out if you need to use r for radio button,
x for check box, e for edit box, just hit f. It will take you to the next
form element whatever it is.

As long as you are in virtual cursor mode, just arrowing down the page
will get you there as well, but that doesn't seem to be working for you,
so just keep hitting f.

Dan,

I've managed to do it, but I did get thrown into some weird trap a few times
when it wouldn't read and I tried to shift tab back to get to the former
question. I've encountered someone on another list who's also having
difficulties with it so I guess it may not be me alone. But thank you. It
just wasn't working correctly. I'd tab to the next question and it would
skip the question.

Thanks so much,
