Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem With Activating a button on a website

2010-04-12 Thread Mark

Hi
Someone may have already mentioned this. However, when I run in to this
situation with the buttons on web pages, I have to rout JAWS to PC and use
the JAWS left mouse click.

I hope this helps.

God bless,

download it from http://www.webbie.org.uk.

I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.

Occasionally, pressing insert-escape so JAWS redraws the page, the
buttons become useable.

This happens sometimes to me as well. I wonder if it isn't something
about the button. Perhaps it's a nonstandard control that just looks
like a button.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem With Activating a button on a website

2010-04-11 Thread Steve

Jo,

Two things. First, see if you can locate the button with the Jaws review
cursor and try left-clicking it.

If that doesn't work, which is sometimes the case on certain websites, try a
demo of another screen-reader like Window-Eyes or SaToGo. There are times
when one screen-reader won't see things that another screen-reader does.

For example, there was a person trying to access the blackboard site at her
local community college. Jaws did not treat several of the elements on the
site as links, and therefore would not activate them at all. With
Window-Eyes, I could navigate to these links and activate the various parts
of the blackboard site. There were probably eighteen links overall that
Jaws just failed to see. I reported this to F.S., which supposedly elevated
it to their development team. I haven't seen an update in version 11 of
Jaws that has resolved that particular issue yet.

The moral of the story is to always try to have an earlier version of your
screen reader as well as at least demos of another one that you can use
during those times when your main screen reader doesn't perform adequately.
