Hi,

So, how does one use this bloody program?

I press on the spibat s and d start center, I tab and there is a list which
includes things like system scan and six other options. There is no start
scan button, so how do I use this?

Thank you.

You need no scripts, it is working fine so too, even you check all update
settings in the settings.
If the programms updates every start up, then search and destroy is easy,

[JAWS-Users] Spybot Question

2008-10-07 Thread Iamcardman2004
I have installed Spybot off the programs page and installed it. It gave me an
option to install for blind users, which I used. My question is, should I
download the scripts for this application off the scripts page, or don't I need
them with the blind users installation...

Thanks,

Al

Re: [JAWS-Users] ) Spybot Search and Destroy version 1.6.

2008-06-12 Thread david whitehead
hello Steve;

okay, I just installed the Spybot 1.6beta, and, here are the steps I took to
update the program.
1. once the program is opened, press, tab, until you hear, search for
updates button, here you can press the spacebar, or the enter key.

2. now you should see this screen come up;

Spybot-S&D Updater
Welcome Page Actions
Please select a download place to download the updates from.
Updates may work faster if you choose a place near your current
location.

now, just press the tab-key once, and your now in a list where you can
select a download server.

you can do this by using the up or down arrow keys.

3. once you've selected the download server, press, alt+c = continue.

4. now a list of updates should appear on your screen. you can now, press,
the applications key, and arrow down to, "Select All S", press enter, and
all the entries should be checked.

5. now use the keystroke, alt+d = download.

now, you should hear or see that your spybot updates are being installed to
your machine.

I hope these instructions help you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] ) Spybot Search and Destroy version 1.6.

2008-06-12 Thread Kevin Chao
I too installed this version of Spybot that is suppose to be more
accessible and found that I am still required to use the JAWS Cursor where I
had to before. So, I would be interested in what exactly was improved upon
as far as accessibility goes. I will continue to use Windows Defender, Reg
Cure and PC Registry Cleaner as they are very accessible without the use of
the JAWS Cursor.

David,

Do you know what these accessibility improvements are? I downloaded and
ran it today, and the bit I've always found problematic - the
downloading of updates - was the same as 1.5, as far as I could tell.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Spybot uppdates

2008-01-17 Thread Lali
Hi, Fred!

You should not make it so.
You should make:
go to spybot, navigation menu, settings submenu, settings menupoint, press
it.
go down untill web update, on the tree view.
If you found, all things of updates check, but the proxi not, if you are not
sure, that you have proxi.
At the beginning of the tree view deselect all security saving options.
Greatings, and god bless!
Lali
If not succeeded, call me on skype, if you have!

hello Fred;

once you have selected where you want to download from, you can;

route jaws to pc, down arrow, and find the continue button.
or, , you could press, alt+c=continue.

then, press your application key, down arrow, enter on select all,

again, route jaws to pc, and find the download button, or, try pressing,
alt+d=download.

let me know if this helps.

[JAWS-Users] Spybot uppdates

2008-01-17 Thread Fred Adams
I recently installed Spybot-search and destroy successfully, I believe. I
have a problem when I try to install updates. When I press enter on
updates, jaws tells me to select place I want to select downloads from. I
select the place I want to download from and press enter and that is as far
as I can go. Every time I press enter on updates, jaws tells me to select
place to download from and I get no further than this. I will appreciate

Hi, right click the update list with either shift+f10 or the
applications key, arrow to select all updates, and press enter. Now
do a control+d to start the updating process. Hope that helps.

Rick,

Thank you very much. I do have JFW 6.2 on the machine and was able to
check the items and run the scan for problems. By some major miracle, it
didn't find any.

Thanks again,

[JAWS-Users] Spybot 1.4

2008-01-11 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

Somehow Spybot never got re-installed after a new hard drive was put in
my XP Home with SP2 machine when it was in the shop back in August. I'm
attempting to remedy this and have version 1.4 and the JAWS scripts
installed, but have run into a problem running the program. I hit the check
for updates button and a list of 19 items came up which are all unchecked.
I thought I remembered that these should be checked, but have not been able
to do so by hitting the spacebar or by routing JAWS to PC and left clicking
on capital letters.

I'm trying it with JAWS 7.1, but earlier versions of JFW are on the
machine as well as 8.0 and I have a SMA for 9.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Margaret

2008-01-03 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi Vicki, this is a very common issue, and is to do with JAWS. Before
launching the Spybot installer, unload JAWS and start Narrator.
Complete the installation, then unload Narrator and restart JAWS.
Hope that helps.

Hi Vicki,
You didn't say what operating system you are useing.
I can't speak of Windows Vista, but with Windows XP,
try doing the installation with Narrator.
It is not the best, but this will determine whether the problem is with
Jaws.
In most cases, with Win XP, this will solve the problem.

[JAWS-Users] Spybot 1.5 search results

2007-10-08 Thread Lisa
Hello everyone,
I did a scan with the new Spybot version 1.5 today. When the scan was done I
wanted to look at the search results, but using the arrow keys to do this
didn't work this time. I can fix the problems, but I can't get into the search
results. I have the jaws scripts installed, and the hot key for viewing the
search results is control shift l, but this didn't work. I am running jaws 8,
and windows XP home. If anyone can help me out with this I would really
appreciate it!
Take care,
Lisa

Re: [JAWS-Users] Spybot Found Problem

2007-08-20 Thread Ricque
Hi Margaret,
I get the same thing with Spy-bot, and since that is the only thing that shows
up, then I simply
close the program.
I know that it is not a problem, so I ignore it.
Easier to do that, than to cause a problem with windows.

you can fix it, but that just goes to show that the program is still
picking out windows components as problems. When they are part of
your operating system and not a problem. if it picks the wrong thing
your xp might not boot up. Then you will have a problem.
its better to use programs that know what is windows and what is a
real problem.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Spybot Found Problem

2007-08-20 Thread Tim
you can fix it, but that just goes to show that the program is still
picking out windows components as problems. When they are part of
your operating system and not a problem. if it picks the wrong thing
your xp might not boot up. Then you will have a problem.
its better to use programs that know what is windows and what is a
real problem.

2007-08-19 Thread Flor Lynch
Regarding IE6 search, with IE open have you tried ctrl+e to disable it?
(that's a toggle.) Maybe you have, but in case you or others didn't know
about that.

Jeffrey,

I clicked on fix the selected problem and got

Confirmation
You are about to remove these entries. Do you want to continue?

yes no

It might be a fluke, but at one point the screen seems to say
something about restoring points. I don't know if it means changing
the XP restore ones
and I don't want to change them since the Search Companion problem
with IE 6 from last week hasn't been fixed and my tech's office said I
need to wait for him to come and I haven't gotten a call from him to
set up an appointment.

Thanks,

I'd been running Spybot 1.4 using the auto run method and I think

Hi,
Just tell it to fix the problem. Nothing about Windows XP System restore
points will be lost or effected in any way. In other words, just press enter
or the spacebar on the Yes button when that dialog comes up.

2007-08-07 Thread Lennie Rinaldi
Patti,

I think that you should follow Rick's advice. I just downloaded the
include from Spybot to my desktop and examining the property, it is
an executable to update the latest detection for Spybot. I am not
sure what you are looking at.

Sorry for not being of any help. I do not have any problems running Spybot.

Re: [JAWS-Users] spybot

2007-08-06 Thread Ricque
Hi Patti,
If you work from the desktop, then leave the spy-bot search and destroy icon,
and delete the one for
blind users, and the one for the includes.
If not, then delete all 3, and launch Spy-bot from the programs menu
The next time, you run Spty-bot, you will download new includes, and life
should be good.
If you need more help, contact me off-list, and we'll run thru it.
HTH,
Richard Justice

Subject: [JAWS-Users] spybot

Hey Gang,

When I downloaded spybot I have three icons on my desktop, and I don't know
what to do with two of
them.

I have Spybot - Search & Destroy, Spybot - Search & Destroy (for blind users)
and includes, that
folder has 32 files. I think it is something to do with
spybot.

Should I delete one of the spybot programs, and what do I do with the folder
includes?

Please help

Re: [JAWS-Users] spybot

2007-08-06 Thread Lennie Rinaldi
Hi Patti,

The include icon for Spybot should contain the detection updates for
Spybot. You must update Spybot at least once a week to get the latest
detection for new spywares.

Usually you can update the detection rules with the check for update
button or go to Spybot home page and hit download and include the
latest updates manually.

Somehow, you must have downloaded the updates and save them on the
desktop instead of installing them. I believe that what is in your
desttop icon.

If anyone else can comment on this, please do so. One more thing, you
mentioned that there are 32 files,. Does these files have names that
look like to be detection updates?

Re: [JAWS-Users] spybot

2007-08-05 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Since this will be a desktop icon, you could safely remove it altogether,
but for safety's sake move it to the recycle bin for now and see if you can
run Spybot without any issues. If not, then you can remove it from the
recycle bin and not worry about it. Hope that helps.

Patty, it would be safe to delete just the "spybot search and destroy" icon,
and perhaps send the other two to the recycle bin and see what happens. To
permanently delete a file, press shift in combination with the delete key.
This will bypass the recycle bin. Hope that helps.

Hi All,

Does anyone know if Spybot 15 is still in beta? Also, has anyone have
any problems running this version?

When I try to do an update of the detection rules, I do not get any
updates to install like I used to do with version 14. I am thinking
of uninstalling this version and go back to version 14.

Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

2007-08-04 Thread Griffiths, Steve
Lennie,

The website still gives version 1.4 as the downloadable version, which I
assume means 1.5 is still in beta. I have no experience of the 1.5
version so can't comment on the problems you're getting.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Spybot Version 15

Re: [JAWS-Users] Spybot question

2007-07-17 Thread Terrill Reynolds
Hi:
Yes, go to the navigation menu, to settings, right arrow to enter then arrow up
to settings and hit enter.
You will be in a treview that you can arrow down and use the space bar to turn
on or off settings.

You should toggle on the following settings:

. Toggle on search the web for new version at each program start, update,
Download and include new files if available.

this will allow it to update to the newest version automatically on startup.

. This will keep you from having to update manually and select the files to
update manually so it does it automatically when you open the program.

*If you don't want beta versions then toggle Display available beta versions to
off so it will not search for beta versions.

Also toggle on, Display PDG signature updates.

I do know about all that legal stuff, save all settings, Create backups of
fixed files for easy recovery, Create backups of removable tracks for easy
recovery, Create backups of system internals for easy recovery, Turn on Both of
the create system restore points, display conformation before doing critical
changes.

. Display compatibility warnings should be set to off if you have add aware
installed.

. Play alerts on these occasions is your choice, if you toggle them on you can
browse on a sound to play.

In addition toggle on immunize on program start if program has been updated,
close program if everything is OK.

. Also toggle on use interface optimized for blind users use shredder to remove
usage tracks, use shredder when purging recovery files.

All other setting should be left as is.

. Now go back to the navigation menu, settings and right arrow to enter the
menu then hit enter on ignore cookies. You will now be in a list of your
cookies. Use the space bar to check the cookies you do not want Spybot to
remove.

. Also in the navigation menu, setting you can choose to exclude certain file
extensions, applications, tracks etc.

. Note, while in the list of spyware it found, if there is an entry you do not
want it to remove or check for then right click on it and arrow up to exclude
from further searches.

. How to temporary disable Spybot:

You only need to disable the resident feature of Spybot - Search&Destroy.

That is the way to deactivate it: run Spybot-S&D, switch to the "Advanced mode"
via the menu bar item

"Mode" -- hit "YES" -- select "Tools" in the navigation bar "Resident" and
there you can uncheck the checkboxes in front of the two tools, But warning,
Then you won't have resident protection.

Sincerely,
Terrill Reynolds

Hello everyone,
I currently have spy bot, but I don't want to get the beta version. I would
much rather wait until it is the full version. Is there a place in the spy bot
program where I can have it check for updates to the program, and then it would
update the program to the newest version?
Take care,

its /sp- as it is, it allows the silent install of spybot with jfw
and not havint crash. it just installs. it works believe me. place
the spybotsd14.exe in a folder by itself like spybot and then in the
run command prompt type

c:\spybot\spysd14.exe /SILENT /SP- /NORESTART

and press enter and spybot will be installed.

hi you have to have jaws turned off. when spybot tells you to shut
down all other programs it means every thing.

and it remembers that if you cancel it and try again.

i had to turn off jaws, run it again then after it got installed i
was able to turn it on again.
luckly i had a sighted person to help with that.

[JAWS-Users] spybot crashing

2007-07-14 Thread cheetah
hi you have to have jaws turned off. when spybot tells you to shut
down all other programs it means every thing.

and it remembers that if you cancel it and try again.

i had to turn off jaws, run it again then after it got installed i
was able to turn it on again.
luckly i had a sighted person to help with that.
