Re: [JAWS-Users] automatic windows update and jaws

2014-01-05 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Kelsey,
Actually, if you have your updates set to automatic, you can choose
when they are installed, such as daily, or a particular day of the week, and
an approximate time.
This is true of both Windows XP and 7.
Note:
If you have your updates set to automatic, you will not have an opportunity
to review them before they are installed.
Not all updates are necessary for every system,
I have found this to be true especially in Win7.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Tomorrow's another day, another way!
and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!

Hello,
Regarding the updates, no, I am pretty sure windows does updates
whenE it darn well feels like it lol. It could be 3:00 in the
morning or in the middle of a paper at 12:00 in the afternoon.
Yes, that actually did happen to me. JAWS just starts talking,
so if you leave your computer on, be prepared for that. I live
at home, so one night it woke my family up.

On my Win 7 64 bit machine running latest JAWS 15, I have no problem
using the computer while updates are downloading and/or installing. In
fact JAWS usually you can continue working while updates are
downloading/installing. When they are done, you do need to reboot.

You could turn off the Windows Update feature for a week or a month and then
restart it when you have some idle time at work. I'm not sure when that
would be, just a thought.
I myself have Windows automatic update turned off because it uses up
bandwidth I could be using for other things.

Yes, and that is the problem at work. They do the updates, by they I mean
automation, and don't seem to care that when they do these I can't do
anything for that time. I guess my question was whether there is any way to
use jaws while these updates are going on, or do I just have to wait. Judy
