Open up Windows Explorer.

Go to the tools menu and select options.

Control tab once.

Tab once.

Go down that list until you find use check boxes to select items and hit 
the

space bar.

It sounds like yours is checked so space bar will un-check it.

Then tab to apply to hit enter or just alt + A. Then hit enter again.

You're welcome, it's been a while since I have said that's why I get the big 
money. Actually I went to my windows 7 system and copied down what I did to 
make sure my memory was correct.

i have a folder full of gathered windows 7 helpful hints on my grabbag site:

and i do remember that one as being in there most likely under the desktop
section
