Basically it means that for some reason, the last time outlook was closed,
something didn't close properly. Every time this has happened to me it
seems to have fixed itself. If you want to make sure, I think it's under
help, you can run a repair on office. If it's not under help, then it's
under tools. Note though, that running a repair can take up to 20 minutes.

Have a good day.

Check to see if you have a message stuck in your Outbox. If Outlook is
trying to send a message that for some reason is having a problem leaving
your outbox, when you shut down Outlook, it might not be happening correctly
and thus when you open Outlook the next time it has to go through the
checking for problems routine.

Duh! I should have thought of that! Also, another thing that could be
happening is on the mail server, you could have a corrupted email that
outlook is refusing to download. If you can access your email by webmail go
and check to see if there's emails there it's not downloading.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about outlook

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Kimsan

Outlook has a repair tool for repairing PST files. However, before running
the tool I suggest you export your current PST file as a backup. There are
a couple other things you should try first. Only use the PST repair as a
last resort.

Make sure that all Office programs are closed. Open task manager by using
CTRL+shift+escape. Move to the processes page. Go through the list of
processes and end all occurrences of Outlook.exe and Winword.exe. Be sure
to check for more than one instance of each of those entries. Use the end
task button for all instances. Restart your system and then restart
Outlook.

Sometimes an add-in can cause the type of problem you are having with
Outlook. check under tools menu, Trust Center, and the add-ins category to
find out if any add-ins could be causing the problem. Check under COM
add-ins as well. This is probably not the cause and you don't want to
disable or remove an add-in that is working for you so don't disable
anything that you are not sure of, but if you find a very suspicious add-in
then you might disable it to find out if it resolves the problem.

If the problem continues then you can do a PST repair but be sure to backup
first. Here is how to export your current PST file as a backup:

Use Alt+F to go into the file menu in Outlook. , Press enter key on the
Import and Export choice.

Choose Export to a file, and then choose the "Next" button.
In the list, pick the "Personal Folder File (.pst), and then choose the
"next" button.
Pick the folder that contains the messages you want to back up. If the
folder contains a subfolder that you want to include then check the box for
including subfolders and then tab to the "Next" button and use spacebar. In
the save exported file as box use the browse button and specify a name and
location for your backup file. Move to the "finish" button and press enter
key. Remember where this backup is so that if you need to import it you
will be able to.

Here is how to use the PST repair tool:
Open "computer" from the start menu. Open program files. Open Microsoft
Office. Open Office 12. Find the file ScanPST.exe and press enter key.
You will need to browse to the data file. The default location is
c:\Users\Kimsan\app data\local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst.

Follow the prompts for the repair of the Outlook inbox.

It might appear that you have lost your messages when you start Outlook
again but they are saved in a folder (I can't remember the name of the
folder created). However, if you have trouble getting messages back from
the created folder then you can use the import wizard to bring them in from
the backed up PST file.

If you have to import then on the File menu choose Import and Export.
Choose Import from another program or file and then tab to the Next button
and press enter key. Choose "personal Folder File" (.pst), and then choose
the next button.
In the File to import box, specify the path and file name of the .pst file
you want to import. It will be the file you created with the export
function. Follow the remaining instructions in the Import and Export
Wizard.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about outlook

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Kimsan,

You might want to try disabling add-ins and then enabling them one-by-one to
see if one of them is the culprit. Here is how to do it in Outlook 2007:

1. Make sure Outlook is closed.
2. Bring up the run dialog by using Windows key with R.
3. type in outlook /safe (that is the word Outlook followed by a space
followed by a forward slash followed by the word safe. Press enter key.
4. At this point if you get a dialog asking about making Outlook the default
Email program or similar type messages answer yes or no.
5. When in the list of messages and in the Outlook safe mode use Alt+T for
tools and arrow up to the "trust center" choice and press enter.
6. Use up or down arrow key until you get to the add-in category.
7. Tab to the "go" button and press enter key.,
8. There should be a list of add-ins presented. Move up and down the list
using arrow keys. use spacebar to uncheck those that are checked.
9. Tab to OK and press enter key.
10. Close Outlook and open it again in its regular mode. If it opened without
any problem then go back into the list of add-ins and check them one-by-one.
Close Outlook after each one is checked and open it again. This is a lengthy
process but it might identify an add-in giving trouble.

I have heard that the Windows Search indexer helper add-in has caused this type
of problem for some people.

If this doesn't solve the problem and running the scanPST.EXE inbox repair
didn't work then I am not sure what to suggest. Being that you have
reinstalled and repaired Outlook, it sure seems like it could be a problem with
an add-in.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about outlook

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Lee

Hi Kimsan,

Here are a few other things to try. If these don't work then we might have
to change an entry or two in the Windows registry and disable add-ins
through a group policy. Let's take the continuance of this off list. But
check a few things before you decide if you want to go that route. I know
there are people who have disabled the windows search service, but that will
affect the index searching elsewhere as well.

First uncheck the add-ins you are able to and leave Outlook. Before opening
Outlook again make sure all Outlook.exe processes are ended. Remember to
look for multiple occurrences of the process. Open Outlook again and see if
it opens without the error message. If not then when Outlook opens again go
back and enable the add-ins that you disabled.

The next thing to try is to disable your AVG temporarily. After doing so,
with Outlook closed be sure all Outlook.EXE processes are ended. Open
Outlook to see if you still get the message. If not then it might be your
AVG is causing a problem. Remember to start AVG again.

You can try disabling your instant searching functions. Go under the tools
menu in Outlook and open the instant search menu. Searching options will be
a submenu choice. Open the options. You will find a list of PST files that
are being searched. Uncheck each of them and then use apply or OK. Close
Outlook. Make sure all processes have been ended. Start Outlook again to
see if you still get the error message.

If you have any synchronization program running in Outlook then also try
disabling it, leaving Outlook, ending all occurrences of the Outlook.EXE
process and then going back into Outlook.

If the above steps still give no resolution then let me know and we might
need to use a group policy and a couple registry changes.

Again, if the above solutions don't work for you then Email me directly to
continue working on this problem if you want to.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] question about Outlook express email.

2010-04-11 Thread James Flusche
I am using jaws 11 on avista machine with OE email.

When I get done writing a email, I do a spell check on it, when I am done with
my spell check, I can only read the first line of my email.

How can I go back to the view of my whole message?

Also when I first go into OE, some times jaws will freeze up for a few seconds,
do you have any advice for me?

You may think this is a dumb question, but is your Outlook Express window
maximized? I only ask because I had a similar problem to this once, and the
only problem was that outlook Express was not maximized.

Hi, have you tried a screen refresh with JAWS key+escape? I
personally never had this problem when JAWS 9 was released as a beta
on my XP laptop, and I never had this problem with the final JAWS 9

[JAWS-Users] Question About Outlook 2016 E-mail Search Function

2016-10-11 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

I am trying to search for a particular e-mail in Outlook 2016, and can't get
Jaws to read the screen display to show me what has been found.

Here's what I do:

When in Outlook, I tab over to "search quiry", and type in what I am looking
for.

I then hit enter.

My sighted wife says that the contents of the new screen displaying the
search results is visible, but Jaws will not read it.

Am I missing a step for performing e-mail searches here?

This used to work very nicely.

Is there something else I should be doing?

I'm using Windows 7, and Jaws 17 here.

Okay, Suzy, I'm using Outlook 2003 with Windows XP and JAWS latest
build. When in your Inbox, hit your alt key and T for the tools menue. Then
hit alt o for options. Hit control tab until you hearMail format. Tab to
Create Signature and enter. Follow the prompts. If you hear no prompts,
you may have to route your JAWS cursor to your PC cursor to read the
prompts. This is a failure of JAWS 11. All previous versions would read
the prompts with no problems. As far as collapsing subjects, you probably
want to hit alt v for the view menue, arrow to currrent view and choose to
sort your e-mails by subject, date, etc. Once that is chosen, your cursor
movement will collapse the group. Hope this helps!

If you hold down the CTRL key and press tab key twice focus will move to the

still apply to outlook 2016. You can move to the search box using CTRL with

Well, I've tried different ways to do a search in outlook 2016,
The only way I can get any results is,

1, ctrl+shift+f=advance find,

Now type in a subjectline,
Or, perhaps a few words within the email,
Now press enter to start the search,
Once search is complete,
Press the f6key to view the results. Also, to read a message simply press
enter,
When you want to get out of the list of searches just press, the escape key.

Hope this helps.

Am I missing a step for performing e-mail searches here?

This used to work very nicely.

Is there something else I should be doing?

I'm using Windows 7, and Jaws 17 here.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question About Outlook 2016 E-mail Search Function

2016-10-11 Thread Adrian Spratt
Thanks, Justin. That does the trick. It does one more thing that I find useful.
When I escape out of the search results, focus is set at the message in the
regular message list that is the same message I had focus on in the search
results. This can be useful when you want to look at other messages posted
around that time even though they don't relate directly to your search. I
always figured the control-e search was identical to the shift-control-f
search, but no.

I use control e, type in what I want, then hit enter. Wait a second, then just
tab three times. You should start hearing results.

David,

This is the method I also use. There's one more point. After pressing
shift-control-f, you can type the word you're looking for in the subject field
(as you say) or tab to the edit boxes for the "from" and "to" fields.
What isn't obvious is that you can also type a term to search for in the
message field. the way I get there is as follows:

Shift-control-f
Tab once
Down arrow once
Shift-tab.
Now you're in the edit box for a message field search.

If you've found a simpler way, I'd be curious.

Hello Tom;
Well, I've tried different ways to do a search in outlook 2016, The only way I
can get any results is,

1, ctrl+shift+f=advance find,

Now type in a subjectline,
Or, perhaps a few words within the email, Now press enter to start the search,
Once search is complete, Press the f6key to view the results. Also, to read a
message simply press enter, When you want to get out of the list of searches
just press, the escape key.

Hope this helps.

Hello Tom,

If you hold down the CTRL key and press tab key twice focus will move to the
list of results. This is the case with Outlook 2013 but I think should still
apply to outlook 2016. You can move to the search box using CTRL with E. The
list of results filter as you type. you don't need to press enter
key.

Take care.
