Re: [JAWS-Users] the program has stopped working
You can purchase an external DVD drive for about $35. You can research whether one can run a Windows 7 OS repair via USB thumb drive. Since your netbook probably has a restore partition you might consider creating a set of restore disks to return the netbook back to factory defaults. You might also be able to create a restore disk using a thumb drive. The thumb drive route is preferable since you will not need to purchase the external DVD drive and the restoration will be much faster and easier. If you end up with a hardware problem it might be time for a new netbook. You will almost certainly need sighted help to complete any of the procedures above. I really hope I'm not coming off badly, but for those who have a computer and have never created restore disks, this is why it is important to do so--you never know when you will be needing them, but know for sure you will need them. I also hope many of you will carefully consider creating a password reset thumb drive, which is easy to do and can save you lots of headaches. Is this correct? I believe that you need to run a repair on your operating system. It sounds as if you have either or both some missing and corrupt DLL files in your system. The easiest way would be to have a repair disc, which computer manufacturers do not supply with their computers anymore, but you can buy one for your OS Either through the manufacturer, Microsoft, or some place like Ebay. You will need to insert the cd into the disc drive on your computer, determine which key to press to boot to the disc drive, and select repair Windows from the options shown. You can also perform this operation with an installation disc. hth, Mike -Original Message- From: Kevin Lee Sent: Tuesday, May 6, 2014 3:35 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] the program has stopped working I have a hp netbook running windows 7 starter and I’m using jaws 15 with it. usually when I use programs on it like notepad, windows media player 12i get an error window that says the program has stopped working is this error similar to the error windows explorer has stopped working what would be a solution to fix this? Re: [JAWS-Users] the program has stopped working
Then, if you do not have an external drive, you can go to Recovery in Control Panel and restore your PC to an earlier point in time when you know that it was working correctly. Other than this, a repair drive can be created on a USB drive, and the repair ran from that by choosing to boot from USB instead of CD during boot up. hth again, Mike -Original Message- From: Kevin Lee Sent: Tuesday, May 6, 2014 9:16 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] the program has stopped working no I have windows 7 starter running on a hp netbook, if you are not familiar with netbooks they don't have any drives. -Original Message- From: Mike Boyd Sent: Tuesday, May 06, 2014 6:39 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] the program has stopped working Hi Kevin, I take it that since you have Windows Media Player 12, that you are running windows 8.
