Re: [JAWS-Users] Administrator of a computer

2014-02-19 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

I assume you are referring to the User Account Control dialog popping up
when you want to change something. Well, I guess the theory is that any
change can potentially be dangerous and could have bad results. So Windows
wants to warn you about that. If you are an administrator, you can change
the settings for when it pops up, or even turn it off. You would find the
link for User Account Control settings in the User Accounts window. If
you're just a regular user, you'll have to sweet talk the administrator, or
just live with it and press alt+y when it pops up.

Only an administrator account can change someone's account type between

giving everyone in town a key.

you have administrator rights to the computer, if it's registered in your
name then this is your rights to call the shots.
A computer can have multiple identies that is shared by other people, so
when you logged into your side of it, it's all your rights to whatever is
there, you should be able to remove programs and etc, unless somehow the
program in question you wish to remove is also admin to another user of your
computer, then both parties have to log in and remove it or make changes.
I'm not 100% sure about this, just guessing here, since a computer is

one can't make independent decisions without the other aware of it.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Administrator of a computer

you have administrator rights to the computer, if it's registered in your
name then this is your rights to call the shots.
I'm not 100% sure about this, just guessing here, since a computer is
different from like a checking account with 2 people on the same account and
one can't make independent decisions without the other aware of it.

the admin is the settings your computer maker set. so its not really a
person or cannot be changed I believe.
I'm guessing on that because I've tried to make myself the computer admin
with no luck. the only thing you can do is a temp computer admin like when
you install and uninstall/delete stuff.

there, you should be able to remove programs and etc, unless somehow the
program in question you wish to remove is also admin to another user of your
computer, then both parties have to log in and remove it or make changes.
I'm not 100% sure about this, just guessing here, since a computer is
different from like a checking account with 2 people on the same account and
one can't make independent decisions without the other aware of it.

you can be the admin Liuda, but it doesn't necessarily prevent someone from
knowing your passwords and looking at your files, maybe change them
passwords and put them on a thumb drive or get a program that is password
protected that only you know so they can't snoop

Can someone please tell me where I can determine if I am the administrator
on this computer and if not how to become its Admin? At the same time, what
does this allow the Admin. To accomplish? Is everyone an Admin. On their
computer???

Thank you very much.

Yes, I believe all computers have a guest account by default, but you don't
have to use it. It's there if someone wants to temporarily use your
computer. You can turn it on and off at any time.

Alana, I am checking settings. Does everyone have a Guest account in their
User Accounts section? I Have something reading that says, Guest account
 off
and there is a button to turn it off and on. Now, it is off, but is their a
guest account already established in my computer and it happens to be off
now or is the capability there to have a Guest account which is not
necessarily installed now and that capability to use such a Guest account
 is
off now? I am asking about a fine line bet2ween both of these options. I
shall look forward to your thoughts on this topic.
I did hear Liuda Administrator password protected which my computer is
 presently however.
 Thanks for your help.

 Hi Liuda,
Go into control panel, then under user accounts. It should show what type
 of
account you have. To determine if the computer is in your name, you set
 this
up when you set the computer, being in your name means you are the main
 user
of the computer, I am not talking about who legally owns the computer.
When you press on your account you can press on change user type.

you have administrator rights to the computer, if it's registered in your
name then this is your rights to call the shots.
A computer can have multiple identies that is shared by other people, so
when you logged into your side of it, it's all your rights to whatever is
there, you should be able to remove programs and etc, unless somehow the
program in question you wish to remove is also admin to another user of
