I had to recently reinstall JAWS 14. Since the reinstallation JAWS does not
speak numbers correctly. For instance, instead of saying twenty two, JAWS
pronounces it as two two. How can I change that?

In the settings center search for the word numbers for the options you are
looking to find. Do it in the default so it will take universally. The
hotkey for opening the default is control + shift D after you use insert + V
first to open the settings center.

On further review it looks to me like you hit insert + F2 and arrow down to
settings center. Then you shift tab once and then hit the home key to land
on the default application option. Then follow my original instructions. If

Just in case anyone needs a more step by step process, this is how I change the
numbering option:
Go into the utilities menu in Jaws.
Arrow down to settings center. Press enter.
Arrow down to text processing. Press right arrow to open.
Arrow down to number and date processing. Press right arrow to open.
Arrow down to number processing and press space bar until you hear controlled

Press tab to hear an explanation. Press tab again and hit enter on ok.
Smile.

Just in case anyone needs a more step by step process, this is how I change
the numbering option:
Go into the utilities menu in Jaws.
Arrow down to settings center. Press enter.
Arrow down to text processing. Press right arrow to open.
Arrow down to number and date processing. Press right arrow to open.
Arrow down to number processing and press space bar until you hear
controlled by synthesizer.
Press tab to hear an explanation. Press tab again and hit enter on ok.
Smile.

On further review it looks to me like you hit insert + F2 and arrow down to
settings center. Then you shift tab once and then hit the home key to land
on the default application option. Then follow my original instructions. If
somebody knows more please step up the keyboard.

2013-02-06 Thread Dan Rossi
OK, can someone explain this? This has been annoying me for a while now,
but I guess I just got used to it.

On my Windows Xp box, running JAWS 13, using the Eloquence synth, number
processing is messed up. No matter what selection I set the number
processing to, it refuses to handle numbers larger than four digits. IE,
for numbers 5 digits or greater, it always reverts to single digit
announcement. This is irritating when looking at file sizes in the
hundreds of meg or gig range.

On my Windows 7 box, running JAWS 13 and Eloquence, number processing is
handled correctly.

Is this a known bug?

Hi

The speaking of numbers with more than 4 digits is a feature, not a bug.
You can override it my searching for speak single digits in the Settings
Center. Go to the result and right arrow to open. Arrow down to the next
setting about the number of digits and set it to controlled by synthesizer.

2013-02-06 Thread Dan Rossi

Mike,

Thanks but you obviously misread my message. I said that no matter what
selection I make for number processing, on my Windows XP box running JAWS
13, and Eloquence, JAWS will only read numbers with five digits or more,
in single number mode. If I set JAWS to single digits, it reads 12345 as
1 2 3 4 5. If I set it to controled by synth, it reads it as 1 2 3 4 5.
If I set it to pairs, it reads it as 1 2 3 4 5. If I set it to Full
Numbers, it reads it as 1 2 3 4 5.

I want it to read it as twelve thousand three hundred forty five.

Since this is not the behavior I see on my Windows 7 box, running the same
version of JAWS, I do not see this as a feature.

Dan,

There are two settings you need to set here. The first ofthese if 'full
numbers,' which you know of. the second comes in the next tab and is a
combo box. there set to "Controlled By Synthesizer" (I.e., Eloquence).
On my Windows XP box this works as you would want, for 5 or more digits.

Dan, If I just put 12345, JAWS pronounces it as 12345. But if I put a comma
between the 2 and 3, then JAWS says twelve thousand three hundred forty

There are two combo boxes in the settings for controling numbers. The
first is Number Processing, I had that set to "Controlled by synthesizer"
The second is "If number contains" It rotates between Controlled by synth,
5 or more digits, 6 or more digits, 7 or more digits, 8 or more digits. I
originally had it set to 5 or more digits for some reason. In that
setting, it would read any number with 5 or more digits by single digits.
Once I set it to controlled by synth, it started reading large numbers by
