Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Keeps Repeating "="

2016-04-28 Thread Subash

Hi, it's a USB keyboard I use.
Today I restored the computer back to the earliest time I could, and that
seems to resolve the issue for the time.

The only thing, I lost my JAWS Autherization.

Hi Tom, yes, the first thing I did was set screen echo to none, and it still
does it.
I don't think it's the taskbar update, because I have a login screen and
while it sits there waiting for me to enter a password, it announces =.

Even a system restore didn't work.
I'm stumped.
Thanks.

I can only guess that jaws is reading it from somewhere. Have you tried to
set screen echo to none see if it stops reading the equals sign? If so then
you need to start to try to identify where it is located. This can be a
challenge. I would start with the task bar. It is possible that something
is updating a status but only reading the equal sign.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Yes David, very irritating.
But in my case, it was working well until about last Sunday. I don't even
have to be typing anything, as soon as the computer boots, it starts.
Even when I'm using other programs like mediaplayer it keeps on repeating

Yep, I have noticed the same thing with JAWS 15. It usually happens when I
am either reading some packed, or typing. Certain characters like a
lowercase I lowercase L and hyphens or underscores will repeat ad nauseeum
him until I move on to another character. Irritating, and I have no idea
what could be causing it, except possibly the character are so thin, that
John is not treating them as a character but more like a cursor.

The only thing that works is switching the Say all command to without
pause line at a time. Or converting the text to word or some other
format. The screen echo is off, though that didn't work.

Hi Mike,

Just to clear up something. the key repeat feature has nothing to do

down, say, an arrow key, it continues to move. I wonder if you have the
keyboard cursor voice active as well as the PC cursor voice? (Something

Hello Sir;

Thank you for your response and confirming what I thought about how key
repeat works. Here is a better explanation of what is happening. If I copy
a URL into the address bar and invoke the say line keystroke Jaws will read
it just fine. If I press the Home key Jaws will keep repeating the first
letter of the URL. If I press the right arrow, Jaws will keep repeating
that letter, until I press the right or left arrow and Jaws will keep
repeating whatever letter is highlighted. Pressing the control key will not
stop Jaws from speaking. The only way to stop Jaws at this point is
pressing the escape key. I can read a URL character by character in an
email or if I paste it into Notepad just fine. I have went into manage
applications settings and disabled everything. The problem is still there
after disabling everything in the manage applications settings dialogue box.
I hope you or someone has some ideas on how I can correct this issue because
it is annoying as hell! LOL
Oh, it also does the character repeat in My Documents if I press the F2 key
to change the name of a folder. Thanks again, take care.

Mike,

besides JAWS, do you have any other self-voicing apps (Openbook, or some
other) that will read character by character, see if this behaviour is
duplicated then? One thought is that this might be a video card issue.
How about when you're writing, is everything ok then?

perhaps your best bet may be to have someone with sight view the screen
when this is happening. Perhaps there's some screen magnification
setting at work. Settings in Control panel | Accessibility Options |
Display, might be a good place to probe. You might also want to look at
windows settings, in the Appearance tab of Control panel | Display.
NVDA = Non Visual Desktop Access - get that? It lived up to its name. .

Could be your screen resolution, if the resolution is very high and the
carat is overlapping the character on the screen Jaws will see it as a newly
written character when the carat flashes off and repeat it to you each time.

See if changing the cursor blink rate changes the rate of the repetition to
find out if this is the cause.
