Re: [JAWS-Users] Touch vs non-touch screen notebook computer

Hello,

I am also looking for a new laptop. I have decided that I don't really
want/need a touch screen, they add a lot of weight and are more expensive.
So, I'm going for a non-touch screen model.

Hi,
That is what I would do. You can use the JAWS touch cursor if you have a
touch screen or not, so you can navigate the universal apps with the JAWS
touch cursor right from the keyboard. Good luck on finding your new

Re: [JAWS-Users] Touch vs non-touch screen notebook computer

2016-04-28 Thread Samuel Negron
I use a Surface with the type keyboard. JAWS touch support is a little wonky.
It, for example, is not as responsive or useful as Voiceover touch is, but it
does make some tasks a little quicker to do, e.g. touching the bottom right of
your screen to check the time. I'm actually surprised you can even find
non-touch computers these days.

Another issue I have with JAWS touch support is that, when I rely on it, I've
noticed it crashes apps and programs somewhat frequently. In short, it's
minimally useful for now, but has a ton of potential in the future, especially
if you have something like a Surface.

Hi,
You can learn a lot about the touch cursor on the FS web site in the free
webinars that were done on Windows 8.1. Navigating apps and using the touch
cursor is really explained well in these webinars. Basically, you turn it on
by pressing Shift+numb pad + or Shift+Caps lock+Semi colon, with the laptop
keyboard layout turned on in the JAWS basic dialog. When it is on, right
arrow is like swiping right with your finger, and the left arrow is like
swiping left. The up and down arrow, is like swiping up or down. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Touch vs non-touch screen notebook computer

2016-04-29 Thread Samuel Negron
If you have a computer with a touch screen, you don't have to activate the
touch cursor. Putting your finger on the screen automatically allows you to
explore by touch. To activate an icon you are touching, you do a double tap.
This concept will be familiar to iOS and Android users.

If you are using the keyboard with the touch cusor to mimic touching the
screen, pressing the spacebar or enter will activate the icon. Note that on
Windows 10, using the touch cursor with the keyboard isn't terribly reliable.
Also, I find double tapping, and the flick and swipe gestures to be more
fiddley than they aught to be. That fs cast really does explain a lot, as do
the built-in JAWS help files.

Good luck!

Hi,
You can learn a lot about the touch cursor on the FS web site in the free
webinars that were done on Windows 8.1.

Take care.

Hi,
That is what I would do. You can use the JAWS touch cursor if you have a
touch screen or not, so you can navigate the universal apps with the JAWS
touch cursor right from the keyboard. Good luck on finding your new
notebook.

Huh?

Whether you want touch or not, I have one here from HP and I dooubt it adds
much to the weight. Some of the gestures do enhance the convenience.

Hello,

I am also looking for a new laptop. I have decided that I don't really
want/need a touch screen, they add a lot of weight and are more expensive.
So, I'm going for a non-touch screen model.

I am in the market for a new computer. I don't mind Windows 10 but am
wondering whether Jaws 17 latest works well with a touch screen laptop or
should I look for one with a non-touch screen?
Thanks,
Greg Washington
