Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS update not completing
You're not alone. It's why many of us recommend downloading the file from the FS website and installing from it instead of via the JAWS update function. Another reason for doing so is that you will have the current release .exe file on your system in the event you later need to do a repair or if you later want to revert to it when a later release creates new problems, as sometimes happens. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jason White Sent: Wednesday, March 16, 2016 1:47 PM To: Jaws-Users Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS update not completing I've noticed this on several occasions now, including the latest update: the JAWS update tool starts installing the update but never finishes - I have to reboot the machine and re-install. Quite simply, I'm running JAWS 12 on a Windows 7 system with a Realtech HD soundcard. With my previous SB Live card in XP it was a simple matter of plug and play to swap between headphones and speakers but this does not seem to be the case now. While I generally work with headphones, there are times when I wish to switch to speaker configuration and would like instructions on how to do this. My sighted husband is available in case of major disasters, but his usual approach is to disable JAWS while stumbling toward whatever solution and he is not particularly good at explaining his steps so that I can learn them. In this situation he had configured the speakers temporarily, but at reboot I was unable to bring up anything but system sounds via speakers, though again headphones worked fine. I've attempted to look around the audio manager and speakers dialogues but still seem to be missing something, so step by step help would be best. Many thanks. Facebook really doesn't agree with jaws some of the time. I could be editing and or maybe doing a combo box and jaws just like is skipping out on me, this is frustrating. So I was thinking maybe this update addressed some of those issues. Maybe jaws is too fast for some of these web sites, not meaning it talks fast, but just the program runs faster on win 7 than like say some of these web pages don't load as fast, so jaws skips around until the page is loaded then it works as it should, does that make sense? - Original Message - From: "David Ferrin" To: Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2012 7:52 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws update how to? Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Update Issue
Rebooting had exactly the same result. I tried it twice. As far as the run command, I had no ability to use the keyboard because jaws wouldn't allow it. It would simply announce unknown function and then say what the key should do. I couldn't even shut jaws down. A sighted friend of mine came over just a little while ago and used the touch pad to do a repair on jaws. At least the touch pad and mouse buttons were still working. Apparently, something had happened to one of the script files during the update. It took a while, but it finally finished the repair, restarted, and now seems to be running fine. We'll see what happens when I reboot later. I probably would have prevented this whole problem if I had run a repair on jaws before I updated it. Just a thought. In the future, that's what I'll do. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure they would have worked if I had been able to use the keyboard. Yes I do. What I don't know, once the routing is done, is whether to press enter, right click, left click or press application key, all of which can be done at one time or another on this program or that one. I don't think some are giving it a fair chance. It's different than 7.5 but it does work well and it's really not difficult to use. I'm using it here and haven't encountered any problems except for the jaws crashing that the new update repaired. There is a bit more jaws cursoring than in 7.5 but not all the difficult in my opinion.
