It is not a must-have feature, but it would help me a little bit. But I think I
can achieve my goal (per-thread logging across many methods) with Threadbased
aspect.

Summary: Send 'server stopping' notification

Initial Comment:
I am in the context of writing an application monitoring
J2EE apps deployed in JBoss servers.

I miss a 'server stopping' JMX notification as I could then
interpret that a module is stopped because the whole
server is stopping. I could better report to operators
what's going on.

Even the 'server stopped' is only sent in ServerImpl.halt,
and not in ServerImpl shutdown hook.

[JBoss-dev] [Other JBoss Development] - SIP + JBOSS

2004-11-10 Thread pagomen
Hi all,

I want to intergrate SIP functionality in the JBOSS platform.

The sip servlet Reference Implementation is free for downloand, but I am not
sure how I can Intergrate it in the JBOSS/tomact container

An other option is to take an open source JAVA SIP stack like NIST Java SIP and
try to intergrate that one in a e.g session bean ...

Do you have any proposals ?

Thanks in advance
George

[JBoss-dev] [JBossWS] - Xdoclet Webservices

2004-11-10 Thread dijkstra
I'm using eclipse for a project including stateless session beans (slsb). I
want to expose the business methode of this slsb as a webservice. I figure
since my webservice endpoint and my remote interface of my slsb are the same,
i'm using the remote interface as my endpoint.

I'm using an ant task to generate my wsdl (as far as i'm aware, Jboss-ide in
eclipse isn't able to do this for me).

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I also need a webservices.xml file and a
jaxrpc-mapping.xml file. Is there any way to automate this?

The last thing i have to do to get my webservice started is an
 tag in my ejb-jar.xml. I'm not to keen on doing this by
hand, so is there any way xdoclet could do this for me? (afterall it is already
generating my ejb-jar.xml file).

Thanx.

[JBoss-dev] [JBossWS] - Re: custom provider in jboss 4.0

2004-11-10 Thread tdiesler
Prematurely ending the request in a handler before it reaches the ultimate
receiver is probably not a good idea, and even if it works a terrible hack. Out
of interest, have you tried?

I externalized the invoker providers, like this

  |
  | jboss:service=WebService
  | ${jboss.bind.address}
  | 8443
  | 8080
  | false
  | org.jboss.webservice.server.InvokerProviderEJB
  | org.jboss.webservice.server.InvokerProviderJSE
  |
  |

Available in jboss-4.0.1, within the next few days.
Does this help?

I added instructions for how to use TreeCache within JBoss, check out the

However, this doesn't treat TreeCacheAop, maybe we can update TreeCacheAop.xml

Can you use another CacheLoader, e.g. BdbjeCacheLoader (you don't need a

This is probably a bug in FileCacheLoader, I'll have a look shortly.

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-1063812 ] JBossNotificationBroadcasterSupport only traces Throwable

Submitted By: J-F Daune (daune_jf)

Summary: JBossNotificationBroadcasterSupport only traces Throwable

Initial Comment:
in handleNotification,
JBossNotificationBroadcasterSupport catches Throwables
from listeners and logs them at 'trace' level.

I have just spent hours trying to locate a problem
because of this.

I agree that JBossNotificationBroadcasterSupport can do
nothing with the Throwable, and that logging is the right
behaviour. I am less convinced with the selected logging
level.

Knowing that 'trace' level is rarely activated (to avoid
overflow of logs), I would set the log level to 'warning',
which seems, IMHO, appropriate.

Cheers,

J-F

[JBoss-dev] [JBossCache] - Re: Questions about functionality

2004-11-10 Thread kkalmbach
one more idea about how to do this.
1) in the xml file make several timeout policies
 i.e. 5m expires in 5 mintes, 10m expires in 10m etc
2) When someone request to put something in the cache, prepend the approriate
the timeout value onto the node.

The ideal in this case would be to query the regionMangager to find the
appropriate value to prepend on the node. So if someone passed in a 7 minute
timeout, I could find that the 10m node is the next value above the desired
threshold.

This would mean a way to get the regionManager from the TreeCache, which I do
not think I can do right now, but I could extend TreeCache and LRUPoliocy to
get add a couple of get Methods.

Is this a better idea? Is it possible? It does mess up our node stragity a
little bit (cleanup/queries for a specific node would have to look through
several top level nodes), but it might be our best option.

[JBoss-dev] [Tomcat] - Re: ClassNotFoundException from JasperException

2004-11-10 Thread alehrens
Does anyone know...is it a requirement that the scratchdir exist prior to
startup? It seems like maybe the first time, when I don't have it, it's taking
too long and the compiler and class loader are tripping over each other. But,
if I restart and only have the top level scratchdir directory, the jsp is
compiled and loaded fine.

Anybody find anything in the docs about this?

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-1044548 ] Problems deploying the same webservice from the same ejb-jar

Category: JBossSOAP
Group: v4.0
>Status: Closed
>Resolution: Fixed
Priority: 5
Submitted By: Robert Marcano (robmv)
Assigned to: Thomas Diesler (tdiesler)
Summary: Problems deploying the same webservice from the same ejb-jar

Initial Comment:
JBoss 4.0.0 when deploying an ejb-jar with a web
service it creates automatically a web application
using the jar name as the context root. When an
application need to be deployed multiple times it is
not a problem if the jar is renamed for each instance
of the application. The problem arises when the ejb-jar
is part of an ear, and that ear is the one that is
renamed not the ejb-jar. This causes that only the last
web app for the webservices is deployed, because the
other ones are overriden by the last one deployed.

I patched jboss in order to include the parent
deployment info shortname if the ejb-jar deployment
info has one, this way each instance of the ejb-jar
inside the ear will have its own webcontext and
security context, the urls will be of this form

/earFilename/ejbJarFilename

the patch is attached to this bug

[JBoss-dev] [Deployers on JBoss (Deployers/JBoss)] - Re: Experiment DeploymentService in 3.2.7RC1

2004-11-10 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
What always confuses me when discussing configuration/deployment issues, is
that JBoss is so flexible that can be configured in many different ways:

You can have a single server with multiple configurations, many servers that
form one or more clusters, netboot, etc.

I believe we need to establish a baseline proposed configuration to start
discussing ideas over this. In particular, if there is going to be a
higher-order management server, or management functions are spread across the
cluster, or the management service itself is somekind of ha-singleton, and
whether netboot should be put in the picture.

Otherwise, it is hard to imagine how a configuration will be produced and
distributed.

I'll try to come up with more concrete examples.

Because module/test will contain more than just source. It needs to contain the
build.xml to drive the testsuite. There is no current standard for module local

[JBoss-dev] [JBoss IDE (dev)] - Generating EJBs BMP for local access with XDoclet on JBoss-I

2004-11-10 Thread hfovi
Hi,

I am using JBoss-IDE 1.4 with XDoclet to generate Entity Beans for local use
(so no EJBHome interface available). The problem is that after the XDoclet was
run the LocalHome interface for the bean contains only finder methods and not
the create method.
So I am unable to create the bean locally.
Please somebody help me with this problem. Is there a config option for XDoclet
that must be modified in order to generate the create method?

Thanks in advance,

2004-11-10 Thread jlu1202
I've just created an environment with Eclipse 3.0.1 and JBoss 4.0/JBoss-IDE
1.4. I am trying to follow Laurent's 11/04/04 reply and running into problems
where I can see the JSP files and the generated Java files but can't set break
points in either the JSP or the genereated Java files. BTW, the application I
created by following the JBossIDE tutorial 1.3 is running correctly and JSP
Compilation Support property is set on the Tutorial project.

Any insight would be highly appreciated.

More explicit,

How do I generate the create() method in Home/LocalHome interface of a EJB BMP
with XDoclet?

Oracle9i
JDK1.4

Attached is patch to the testsuite that modifies:

manyToManyBidirectional/ABTest.java-  the actual use
case

RelationshipUnitTestCase- modified to only run ABTest

ejb-jar.xml/jbosscmp-jdbc.xml- modified to work with
cmp2(findAll is not defined).

Also in the zip is a modified standardjboss.xml that
forces the default CMP container to be cmp2.x.

The use case is simple.

A<->B

Assumming there is 1 A to 1 B(as starting point). If you
run this type of code.

Collection coll = A.getB();
Collection newset = new HashSet();
newset.addAll(coll);
newset.add(newBEJB());
A.setB(newset);

The result should be 1 A to 2 B.

The SQL result is 1 A to 0 B. The appserver (for the

Attached are jars and sql output.

[JBoss-dev] [JBoss IDE (dev)] - Re: Generating EJBs BMP for local access with XDoclet on JBo

2004-11-10 Thread hfovi
Ok, never mind,
I found where the problem was.
After the first run of XDoclet with EJB configuration, the create method must
be added using J2EE->Add Create method. Afther this a new XDoclet run will add
the create method to the EJBLocal interface.
A more explicit tutorial will help.

Sorry for any disturbance.

This is a bug. No, we never have a test case with a composite value object key.
I will fix it in release 1.2 (hopefully the next couple days).

[JBoss-dev] [JBossCache] - Re: Can't replicate the change in a Hashtable Object

2004-11-10 Thread bwang00
Tine,

I take it that you are referring to TreeCacheAop part. Collection classes are
handled by proxy implicitly. So you will need to operate on the proxy, e.g.,

aHashTable = (HashTable)getObject(aFqn);
aHashTable.put("1", "test");

etc.

Yes, to "aspectize" JBossCache is in 2.0 roadmap. The refactoring is currently

Some of my JSPs cannot be opened in the JSP Editor. When I try to open them I

Thanks.

I have fixed this issue by validating that the
org.jboss.iiop.SunJDK14IsLocalBugFix class can be loaded
when the org.jboss.iiop.CorbaORBService
SunJDK14IsLocalBugFix is true. The SunJDK14IsLocalBugFix
cannot be loaded under java5 due to its sun specific base
class not existing in the java5 release.

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-1063606 ] EJB Timer DatabasePersistencePlugin issue

Summary: EJB Timer DatabasePersistencePlugin issue

Initial Comment:
In 4.0.1 RC1 the
GeneralPurposeDatabasePersistencePlugin was changed
to use constants from the DatabasePersistencePlugin
interface for column names of the Timer table instead of
settable properties. One of the columns (INTERVAL) is a
reserved word in MySQL 4.1

I can see three possible routes for the GPDPP:
1) Reinstate the column name properties (perhaps
defaulting to the standard values).
2) Respect the reserved word list in standardjbosscmp-
jdbc.xml (which can be easily expanded for particular a
DBMS).
3) Change the INTERVAL column name.

Regards,
Peter Yuill

[JBoss-dev] [AOP on JBoss (Aspects/JBoss)] - Re: Asynchronous Aspect for Tomcat

2004-11-10 Thread claudehussenet
1/Yes.The asynchronous aspects does support timeout value.

With jdk1.4,u have two options to specify the value:
  * In your code,when u flag the method as an asynchronous method
/** @@org.jboss.aspects.asynchronous.aspects.jboss.Asynchronous
(timeout=5000)*/
  public long myProcess(){...}
  * At run-time ,before calling the method flagged as asynchronous
POJO p = new PO JO();
((AsynchronousFacade)pojo).setTimeout(timeoutValueInMilliSec);
long result = myProcess();

With JDK 1.5,the timeout value is mandatory when u specify the
annotation.However,u can still overwrite the value specified in your annotation
in your code as described below.

2/
The first configuration proposed in the previous post should work in any WEB
container .
I tested with WL 8.1 and I didn't encounter any issue.

Let me know..

Claude

[JBoss-dev] [AOP on JBoss (Aspects/JBoss)] - how to change the arguments of a method by AOP?

2004-11-10 Thread huqiao
Asking for help from a beginner of JBoss AOP.

I am trying to replace the values of arguments in a method by Interceptor.
but it seems does not work.

  | public class SimpleInterceptor implements Interceptor
  | {
  | public String getName() { return "SimpleInterceptor"; }
  |
  | public Object invoke(Invocation invocation) throws Throwable
  | {
  |
  | try
  | {
  | System.out.println(">>> Entering SimpleInterceptor");
  | MethodCalledByMethodInvocation mi =
(MethodCalledByMethodInvocation)invocation;
  |
  | Object arguments[] = mi.getArguments();
  | String oldArg = (String) arguments[0];
  | System.out.println("ASPECT -> oldArg : " + oldArg);
  |
  | ArgConvertor convImpl = new Convertor();
  | String newArg = new
String(convImpl.Convert(oldArg.getBytes()));
  | System.out.println("ASPECT -> newArg : " + newArg);
  |
  | arguments[0] = newArg;
  | mi.setArguments(arguments);
  |
  | return invocation.invokeNext();
  | }
  | finally
  | {
  | System.out.println(">>> Leaving SimpleInterceptor");
  | }
  |
  | }
  |
  | }
  |

  |
  |
  |
  |
  |
  |

the argument was not changed, what's wrong?

Thanks,

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

PS:I have tried the similiar thing by AspectJ, it is OK.

  | public aspect MyAspect {
  |
  | pointcut SimpleExecute(String arg) : call(*
SomeInterface.someMethod(..)) && args(arg);
  |
  | void around(String arg) : SimpleExecute(arg) {
  |
  | System.out.println("ASPECT -> oldArg : " + arg);
  |
  | ArgConvertor convImpl = new Convertor();
  | String newArg = new String(convImpl.Convert(arg.getBytes()));
  | System.out.println("ASPECT -> newArg : " + newArg);
  |
  | return proceed(newArg);
  | }
  | }

After getting the 4.0 iiop tests to run under java5, I
merged the iiop and jacorb jars back to 3.2 and all iiop
tests are running under java5. Neither the tm or csiv2 stuff
was backported.

The tests run fine in 4.0 against java 5

So it looks like it has been fixed in more recent versions
of jacorb,
or jboss/iiop.

Hi Adrian,

You showed the problem in branch 3.2. Do you know if it also
happens on HEAD and branch 4.0? If I remember correctly,
JacORB has been updated in HEAD and in branch 4.0 (for
certification), but not in branch 3.2.

[JBoss-dev] [JBoss IDE (dev)] - Re: Step debugging JSP pages

2004-11-10 Thread jlu1202
I now can debug JSP code. Hope I did not waste anybody's time. It had to do
with both Lomboz and JBossIDE plug-ins were installed. This kind of mistake
tends to be made easily by a newbie like myself having a couple of days of
experience with J2EE and trying to go through a sea of information to get a
development environment set up. It sure was not a walk in the park, but I
finally got the tutorial example (with my own JSP experiment) working! Quite
frankly, I have been spoiled by M$'s Visual IDE and was trying to check out
J2EE/JBoss, and man, I'm impressed. Hats off to people who worked on JBoss and
Eclipse coz they rock!

Jim

Summary: JBoss 3.2.6 cannot be build using IBM SDK 1.4.2

Initial Comment:
Whe trying to build JBoss 3.2.6 using IBM's
JDK1.4.2-1.0 on a Linux box, I get the following
exception during the compile of JBoss JMX:
error: IO exception sun.io.MalformedInputException

I get this error exactly three times but no further
message nor a stack trace.

I assume that there are some dependencies to Sun's SDK
in the build system (Ant) because of the sun.io
exception which I should't see using IBM's JDK.

Howver, the precompiled version (with Sun's JDK, I
assume) seems to run flawlessly on IBM's JDK.

I would really like to build JBoss with IBM's JDK
because IBM's javac produces much more optimized code
and performs much faster on Linux with the 2.6 kernel.

As a guess, try "export LANG=en_US" before running the
build. I had similar problem building other software on
redhat 9 box. It turned out that sources had non-ascii
characters in comments. IBM I/O libs correctly rejected to
read them using default UTF-8 encoding.

[JBoss-dev] [JBossCache] - SERIALIZABLE Bug? Read of null, put, another thread reading

2004-11-10 Thread tallpsmith
I'm not sure if this is a bug, or a feature I can't have! :)

Lets assume a local TreeCache with isolation Level set to Serializable.

Initiall when the cache is empty, the initial read will of course return null.
Lets assume within this same transaction for this first thread that this thread
then goes off to get the data from the DB. It holds a Read lock on the item at
this point, I assume while it goes to get the data.

Mean while, another thread comes along and does the same thing. It starts a
transaction, reads the value, and finds it null and will do the same thing...
Hitting the db.

However what I would really like is for the second thread to block on the read
until the first thread has finished. Basically I want any read or write to
hold a write lock only on the ID node in question. Because the node in
question is a logical ID of a row in a DB, it is better if the other thread
waits for the first, because we only want 1 thread retrieving that value from
the db.

Here's a test case method to show you what I mean:

  |public void testRaceConditionOnNotInCacheCondition() throws Exception{
  | UserTransaction tx = jotm.getUserTransaction();
  |
  | tx.begin();
  | // we now read the null entry, and decide that we need to go do
something.
  |
  | Object cachedObject = cache_.get("/SecurityInfo/",
Integer.toString(23));
  | assertNull(cachedObject); // we expect this in this test
  |
  | /**
  | * now start another Thread to go do the same action, looking
for the value, but it SHOULD
  | * see the result of the main thread put once it commits.
  |  */
  | Thread thread = new Thread(new Runnable() {
  |
  | public void run() {
  | try {
  | UserTransaction tx = jotm.getUserTransaction();
  | tx.begin();
  | log("OtherThread: inspecting the cache");
  | Object cachedObject =
cache_.get("/SecurityInfo", Integer.toString(23));
  |
  | log("OtherThread: read from cache:" +
cachedObject);
  | Thread.sleep(3000);
  |
  | cachedObject = cache_.get("/SecurityInfo",
Integer.toString(23));
  |
  | log("OtherThread: read(second time) from
cache:" + cachedObject);
  |
  | /**
  | * This should really fail because the other
thread should actually have put something else there.
  |  */
  | cache_.put("/SecurityInfo",
Integer.toString(23), "HelloWorldDIRTY!");
  |
  | log("OtherThread: Has put something in the
cache tha shouldn't be there");
  | tx.commit();
  | log("OtherThread: Committed... OH my.");
  |
  | } catch (Exception e) {
  | e.printStackTrace();
  | }
  | log("OthreThread: exiting");
  |
  | }});
  |
  | thread.start();
  | log("MainThread is now waiting a little bit");
  | Thread.sleep(2000); // wait long enough for the other thread to
block a bit. Simulate a DB read
  | log("MainThread is now putting something in the cache");
  | cache_.put("/SecurityInfo", Integer.toString(23), "HelloWorld");
  | Thread.sleep(2000); // wait long enough for the other thread to
block a bit. Simulate a DB read
  | tx.commit();
  | log("MainThread: committed");
  | thread.join(3);
  |
  | log(cache_.get("/SecurityInfo",
Integer.toString(23)).toString());
  |
  |
  | }
  |

The output I get when running the above is:

MainThread is now waiting a little bit
OtherThread: inspecting the cache
OtherThread: read from cache:null
MainThread is now putting something in the cache
OtherThread: read(second time) from cache:HelloWorld
OtherThread: Has put something in the cache tha shouldn't be there
OtherThread: Committed... OH my.
OthreThread: exiting
MainThread: committed
HelloWorldDIRTY!

This to me should have failed at some level, because the 2nd thread clobbers
the first threads put. I want the 2nd thread to block on the first read, and
only then read the value the first thread put there.

Any ideas what's wrong here?

>Summary: EJB Timer database check

Initial Comment:
Hi.

The GeneralPurposeDatabasePersistencePlugin class
doesn't use SQLUtil when checking if the "TIMERS" table
exists.

This leeds to an error, since PostgreSQL stores
tablenames in lowercase - SQLUtil uses
DatabaseMetadata to do the right checks.

The attached fixes this problem by using SQLUtil.

Let me know if I can provide more information.
 Juan

Please apply the patch attached to this issue for JBoss-4.0.1

This should solve all the problems with the EJB timer
persistence that people are having.

Kind regards,
 Juan
