[jboss-user] [JBoss Cache: Core Edition] - putForExternalRead doesn't solve our problem
After porting to 3.0.0.GA and putForExternalRead, it turned out we hadn't read the fine print, which says nothing happens if the node is already there (not the data itself--the node containing the data--we had misread the Javadocs). Because we have more than one piece of data stored in a node, the node is often there even though some data is not. So, puts of data weren't happening when we wanted them to, and the cache was returning nulls instead of data fetched to fill the node after a cache miss. We realize this is by design and documented as such, but the design puzzles us. The put should succeed if the node is there but the key for the data being put is missing, and should succeed if the node and key are there but the value in the node for that key is null. We are, after all, trying to do a cache fill after a cache miss. A fill that doesn't fill isn't very useful. Furthermore, if all of the data in a node ages out of the cache due to LRU, is the data removed from the cache and the node left in place, or is the node also removed? Because if the node is not removed, then PFER wouldn't work in that case either (which makes the design even more puzzling to us). JBoss support's suggestion was that we mimic PFER ourselves, which was what we had originally asked for help with, but when it got to the part about suspending transactions ourselves, that's when we said we're using JPA and the JPA spec says we'll go to JPA jail if we try to muck with transactions at all while being managed by the container. So that's not an option. For now, we're hoping changing the isolation level to READ_COMMITTED from the default helps. If not, we'll have to lengthen the timeout. Ideally JBoss Cache would have a method with a better name than putFastForCacheFillFromExternalReadAfterCacheMissEvenIfNodeIsPresent, but with that semantics. The behavior of PFFCFFERACMEINIP would be remarkably similar to the behavior of PFER, except for modifying the first bullet in the Javadocs: - Only goes through if the node specified does not exist, or exists but does not have the specified key for the value being put, or exists and has the specified key for the value being put but the value is null. - Force asynchronous mode for replication to prevent any blocking. invalidation does not take place. - 0ms lock timeout to prevent any blocking here either. If the lock is not acquired, this method is a no-op, and swallows the timeout exception. - Ongoing transactions are suspended before this call, so failures here will not affect any ongoing transactions. - Errors and exceptions are 'silent' - logged at a much lower level than normal, and this method does not throw exceptions. However, it occurs to us that the folks at hibernate.org seem plenty satisfied with the current behavior of PFER, and their use case is basically the same as our use case, which gets us to wondering why they're happy and we're not. Is our problem due to storing multiple items per node by key? If so, we could change to storing each item in a separate node. That seemed expensive (a lot of maps), but maybe that's how this is supposed to work? If so, we have a followup question--currently when we invalidate data locally (to force a cache miss and cache fill on the next access to that data), we just clear the data in a node, but leave the node in place. Are we supposed to invalidate by deleting the node itself? If so, how does *that* work when multiple threads are trying to access the same node? Won't readers back up behind a write lock, thereby re-introducing the very problem we were trying to solve with PFER in the first place? (Puts due to cache misses on reads timing out because of contention for write locks.) Ronald, maybe I am wrong, but it is talking about your Action within the moving the exception to an arbitrary node. But before that, it states: anonymous wrote : | In the case of jBPM, control flow cannot be changed by the jBPM exception handling mechanism. | I guess its saying that in Java, you can have nested exceptions, and the thread execution will move to whatever point the exception is caught. In other words, JBPM does not move its token automatically to like a global exception handler... it just executes a script or action within a given exception handler. It is the responsibility of the action within the exception handler to actually move the process to another node. anonymous wrote : | No, it is clear (to me ;-)) | What are you saying no about? [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: A question on Transitions
I agree with Ronald. Using the explicit signal() is the better way to do it. It allows the code to be read and understood more easily. The problem with the default signal() is that it is completely order based. If anything, there should be an attribute to mark it default. But there isn't, so I suggest using the explicit signal. No, it is clear (to me ;-)) If you handle the exception IN your actionhandler, it is normal java exceptionhandling and you can put the token anywhere. If you do not handle it in your actionhandler, it it 'bubbles up' to the engine and a specified error handler can handle it or the engine handles it. In both latter cases you cannot put the token anywhere. [jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration & DEPLOYMENT] - Re: JDBCAppender not logging stacktrace
Are you sure you want to log trace messages to the database? But then, I wouldn't want to log debug messages there either. Anyway, there are two requirements to log messages at a given level (such as TRACE) to an appender: 1) The appender must allow log entries at that level (look at the Threshold setting). 2) The category priority for the loggers must enable that level. In other words, setting level to DEBUG will prevent trace messages from being logged. [jboss-user] [JCA/JBoss] - Re: Microsoft JDBC Driver for SQL Server 2008 Failure
1. Here is what I wrote: anonymous wrote : I just now looked at the docs/examples/jms directory in 5.1.0-beta1. The file you need is not there. Looks like you will have to download JBoss Messaging and get the persistence config files from there. after which I wrote: anonymous wrote : I looked at messaging in AS 5.1.0 - it is version 1.4.3.GA. But there is no such version on the JBoss Messaging download page, so it would appear that version 1.4.3.GA is a AS 5.1.0 Beta-specific version only. However, I noticed that there is no difference between the hsqldb-persistence-service.xml file in AS 5.0.1.Beta1 and in AS 5.0.0.GA. Therefore, you should be able to use the docs/examples/jms/mssql-persistence-service.xml from AS 5.0.0.GA in AS 5.1.0.Beta1. Those steps worked for me with both MySQL and PostgreSQL. They should work for SQL Server as well (I am still debating if I really want to install SQL Server, perhaps I'll place it in one of my Windows VMs, maybe Server 2008, but I refuse to install it on my main machine.) 2. Of course that works fine - hsqldb is still being used for the messaging service. (I fail to understand why this is an "issue".) You also have to realize that you are using a beta - the missing messaging configuration files will show up in time for GA, and hopefully in time for CR1. For AS 5.0.0, those files didn't show up until CR1 - before them you had to get them from the JBoss Messaging download, and you had to make sure you used the exact same version of JBoss Messaging (ask me how many times I ran into problems because I failed to do this). If you dislike having to do that kind of work, you should stick to the released versions. With TaskMgmtSession.findPooledTaskInstances(String actorId) or TaskMgmtSession.findPooledTaskInstances(List actorIds) you can search for task instances that are not in a personal task list (actorId==null) and for which there is a match in the pooled actorIds. I should point out that JBoss EAP (the for-fee version) comes with the services already secured. So secure, in fact, that you cannot access them (there is no valid login id defined). So customers of Red Hat that purchase support to JBoss EAP are already covered. Yes, that wiki page is about the Web Services stack, and not the Web Server (having two different components with names that are almost the same is confusing at best). If you really want to upgrade Web Services so that WSRP works, you should use the "native" stack. [jboss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - Propagating custom principal
Hi, After upgrade JBOSS from version 4.0.5 to 4.2.3 (requirements for EJB3 and JAX WS) I have problem with propagating custom principal. I have web application (used as a presentation layer) and EJB component (used as a business layer) both on the same JBOSS version (4.2.3) but different machines. JAAS based login mechanism (with login modules) is mixed (LDAP + database) which provide custom principal class with additional informations like language in UI (multilingual application). Before for propagating principal to EJB I had to use SecurityAssociation.setPrincipal() for pass my principal class (unless JbossGenericPrincipal was passed) in filter class (in WebApp) with currently used lang (java.util.Locale), now (after upgrade) principal is passed without any extra code but I can't set current lang (in passed principal). [jboss-user] [Persistence, JBoss/CMP, Hibernate, Database] - Re: Dynamic Datasource invocation at runtime in JSF-EJB3-MyS
I manage to solve it but need to fine-tune as per the Seam/Hibernate-JPA standards before using it in the application. (1) Create multiple envelopes with different JNDI names, in the single mysql-ds.xml datasource file. e.g. 1TestDS .. 2TestDS .. (2) Create multiple envelopes with different persistence unit name, in a single persistence.xml file of your application e.g. java:/1TestDS ... java:/2TestDS ... (3) In my case, the persistence unit name is the same as User branch office name. So it will be available in User entity which has Seam SESSION scope after user logged in. (4) Here is the Stalteless bean which uses different persistence unit as follows @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; @PersistenceUnit private EntityManagerFactory emf; { // get the persistence unit name from User Entity and invoke below method } public List findOms(String puName){ emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory(puName); em = emf.createEntityManager(); List x = (List ) em.createQuery("select t from Om t").getResultList(); em.close(); return x; } I hope this helps you. I work for Unisys corporation. I'm attempting to certify JBoss EAP 4.3 CP04 running on our MCP system. This apparently includes JBoss Messaging 1.4.0.SP3_CP07-brew. [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - A question on Transitions
Hi all, i ahve a little question. This is a part of my Process definition | | | | | | | | | | | | In this case i have a stateA that have 2 transitions, one is related at normal workflow, the transition named to stateB, and the other that is invoked only from a timer. And it work properly if i invoke the signal() method from a webapp that i use to test the process workflow. But the question is: there is any chance to configure the transition nodeMail to be invoked only by the timer? and not from the signal() method? Because if configured as i described before, the signal() method is perfect anyway to call correctly the transition to stateB, but if the order of the transitions is changed in: | | | the transition named to nodeMail is the only one transition available invoking the signal() method. I know that i can call transition by name too, but i was looking if there was a chance to lock some transition to be executed if who is calling is not the one i expect. I can't seem to find an answer to the above question in the JBossWS documentation. Without the Servlet interface's init and destroy methods how would we clean up threads on undeployment? This seems to be constructed whenever a SOAP request is received, and does not seem to be linked to the lifecycle of the underlying servlet. Any help would be appreciated, thankyou. I know that it is fault of the admins, but there are techniques how to prevent it. Maybe collegues from RedHat security can advise. Something like: - the console is secured and random password for admin is generated during the installation process (or maybe during the first run of the server? or anytime a password is null a random password is generated?) - the console is not configured by default. instead, the localhost:8080 points to a static web page, which tell the user how to start secured (or unsecured) jmx-console View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4220569#4220569 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4220569 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user
