[JBoss-user] [Persistence & CMP/JBoss] - Re: Mapping Entity Beans to Database Tables
Well, I have some news, but I don't know how thrilled I am with it. First, without changing anything WRT my Question bean and descriptors, nor without redeploying, I added a view in my database called "question" which maps to "Questions" and maps the fields like category_id to categoryid. The result...it worked. But it seems like a hack. I just spent half the day cursing about Microsoft and now this. There has to be something else we can do, especially since legacy database schemas will not always conform. And with PostgreSQL, quotes are needed to distinguish not only spaces but case, like "Questions" from "questions". Not to mention, BTW, that you can only read from a view, which, of course, is a problem. In response to loubyansky: anonymous wrote : There is no bug wrt . The problem is the space in the table name. It should be quoted in queries but it's not. This can be considered as a bug in JBossCMP. While it's not fixed you have to use table names that can be used w/o quotes. Could you please elaborate on distinguishing a bug with and JBossCMP? Knowing what I do (which is only at the novice level) I don't see how we can make this distinction with the information at hand, i.e. it is all JBoss to me. Note also that my test case with Question worked without doing anything to QuestionCategory or descriptors, so again I am suspect of this analysis. But if it is a bug with the container, and it is not JBoss's responsibility to fix it, from who and where can I get another one? In response to ironbird: anonymous wrote : I don't understand you don't have a deployment error. [JBoss-user] [Nukes User] - nukes 1.1RC1 available
the first release candidate for the nukes 1.1 release is now available. you can check it out from cvs using the following tag: Nukes_1_1_0_RC1 i've also made a precompiled version for mysql available here: http://www.scriptkitty.org/nukes-1.1.0-mysql-RC1.zip if you want to use a different database, you will need to check out from cvs and compile the code on your own (checking out against this tag will only pull the files for inclusion in the 1.1). some things to note... this release marks the first attempts at a "pure" cmp implementation in all modules except the core. if this is your first time setting up nukes, the ddls will handle setting up the tables required for the "core". all other modules will have their tables created upon deployment. if you had previously tried the news module prior to this release (this includes any of the alpha/beta releases) you should drop the tables and allow them to be re-created. if you have tried the downloads module since it "pure" cmp support has been added and are a postgres user, you should drop the tables and allow them to be re-created. pls report any problems you encounter back in this thread, so the issues can be tracked in one spot, and there aren't a ton of duplicate threads posting the same problem over or just adding "me too!" noise. thx and happy hunting :) View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3837154#3837154 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3837154 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the new InstallShield X. >From Windows to Linux, servers to mobile, InstallShield X is the one installation-authoring solution that does it all. [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Re: Invalid Column Type
Aha, it is working. I can excuse incompetence if it looks like you are making the effort :-) Although you broke my other rule. ALWAYS POST THE FULL STACKTRACE. For reference: http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=ConfigJBossMQJDBC2Persistence OCI works better than thin (thin has a 4k limit on inserting blobs. I suspect your problem relates to the original error (why couldn't it create/find the table?). Try dropping the JMS_ tables, enable TRACE logging as described in "READ THIS FIRST" and post the output from log/server.log for where the PersistenceManager is "starting" i.e. doing its recovery, creating the tables and checking the state of the db. [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Invalid Column Type
I am trying to reconfigure JMS to use Oracle instead of the Hypersonic database default. To avoid Adrian's wrath, I did quite a bit of research on my own ;) Looking on the forums, I found the references to docs/examples/jms, and copied over the XML file for oracle, pointing it to my oracle DS, running against Oracle 9i, JBoss 3.2.3. Even though the create_tables flag was set to true, when I first tried to run my sample test, I got exceptions claiming that the table did not exist. So I created the JMS_Messages table using this command: CREATE TABLE JMS_MESSAGES ( MESSAGEID integer NOT NULL, DESTINATION VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL, TXOP CHAR(1), txid integer, MESSAGEBLOB BLOB, PRIMARY KEY (MESSAGEID, DESTINATION) ); Now, when I try and run my tests, I get the following exception: [OIL Worker-9] 17:27:52,063 WARN [OILServerILService] Client request resulted in a server exception: org.jboss.mq.SpyJMSException: Could not store message: 1 msg=0 hard NOT_STORED PERSISTENT queue=QUEUE.QueueInvokerManage r priority=4 hashCode=15590814; - nested throwable: (java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column type) Did I not create the JMS table correctly? Are there any problems using the OCI driver for oracle instead of the thin driver? Any help would be appreciated. Hi Adrian, You are right on and it had something to do with JNDI access. I had to add the following to the conf/jndi.properties file: | java.naming.security.principal=dude | java.naming.security.credentials=dude | That did the trick. Thanks for your help! Sorry, i posted an older log. Meanwhile i had changed jboss.mq:service=Naming in jboss:service=Naming, but i still got the same error. Then i thought it was something wrong with the classloader because of the error you mentioned: Depends On Me: java.lang.RuntimeException: [Missing message conf.noDefaultConfigurationFile], ObjectName: jboss.web:service=WebServer state: FAILED I Depend On: jboss:service=TransactionManager I was using jdk 1.3.1 with jboss when i got that error. Now i changed to 1.4.2 and i don't have this error anymore. The problem is that i still can't have the mbean working with dependencies. If i deploy the mbean after jboss starts, it works fine, but i can't get it to work on start up. What am i missing? I thought that the order of deployments is decided by dependencies. Hi pilhuhn, But there's a problem. When a user (scott) creates an account he has to enter a password. this password will be stored in the database, using EJB. Before this password is stored I would like to encrypt it, that the db-admin can't read it (in the ejbStore()-method). When this user (scott) want's to login and fill in the password in the from, then jboss would compare it with the stored password in the database and logicially it doesn't match, beacause it is stored encrypted! so that never matches. But there should surely be a way to say jboss how the password is stored (with wich encryption) in the db, that jboss could match the entered password with the encrypted... isnt't it? thanks a lot for repy View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3837128#3837128 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3837128 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the new InstallShield X. >From Windows to Linux, servers to mobile, InstallShield X is the one installation-authoring solution that does it all. There is an example interceptor on the WIKI. But the user/password have been discarded by the time you send messages (replaced with a security token) so you would need to keep your own cross reference of which ConnectionTokens map to which users. [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Re: context.lookup takes 7+ _seconds_ to return over LAN on
While I generally agree with you about names and numbers, it is too naive for more complicated network configurations. e.g. 1) If you are using a firewall, although the firewall will rewrite the packet headers to translate ip addresses, it will not rewrite ip addresses embedded in the packet bodies (like the RMI codebase) 2) If your machine is multi-homed with NICs accessing networks that cannot see each other, you cannot send the ip address to the client, because it will be wrong on one of the networks. 3) The default configuration binds to all ip addresses 0.0.0.0 (which is useless to a client) Where I will agree with you is that if you do specify an ip address, it shouldn't then change over to using the host name. [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Adding header properies prior to insertion in queue
I would like to add a header property prior to messages being inserted into a jms queue. The problem is that I do not have control over the client application. Is there any way on the server side to recieve the jms message from the client, run some code to add the property, and then continue to insert the message in the queue? What I am really trying to accomplish, is to get the username for the user that sent a message into a queue at the time that is is recieved by the queue listener on the other side. My solution is to add a username string property to the header. If there is a better way to do this , I have not been able to find it. Any help is appreciated. [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Re: context.lookup takes 7+ _seconds_ to return over LAN on
OK, so sorry to be posting 8000 messages, but I solved my problem, and I believe that it was the result of a bug in JBoss that I was thankfully able to workaroud. In org.jboss.web.WebService there is a method: | protected void startService() throws Exception |{ | // Host must be set to continue (either by user or detection) | String address = getHost(); | if (address == null) | throw new MissingAttributeException("Host"); | | // Start the WebServer running | server.start(); | log.info("Started WebServer with address: " + server.getBindAddress() + ":" + getPort()); | | // Set the rmi codebase if it is not already set | String codebase = System.getProperty("java.rmi.server.codebase"); | if (codebase == null) | { | address = ServerConfigUtil.fixRemoteAddress(address); | | codebase = "http://"; + address + ":" + getPort() + "/"; | System.setProperty("java.rmi.server.codebase", codebase); | } | log.info("Using RMI server codebase: " + codebase); |} | What happens is that if you do not set the system property in question, it uses your configured host (which, by default is jboss.bind.hostname system property). That is reasonable and correct. THEN, it puts the address through ServerConfigUtil.fixRemoteAddress, which turns your host address into a servername. This, IMHO, is incorrect behavior. At least, it seems incorrect when you've specified the jboss.bind.address to be something other than the default. Names are for humans. Numbers are for machines. The number is always correct, wheras the name is dependant on the DNS server and client configuration, and introducing this dependancy by default seems wrong. Maybe this is addressed in a later version, but FYI, the solution was to set java.rmi.server.codebase=http://my_ip_address:8083/ in my SystemPropertiesService MBean. If there's a bug tracker for JBoss, I'll submit this if anyone agrees with me. BTW, it seems that the WebService MBean controls the RMI Codebase, and it's "Host" attribute controls the 'name of the public interface'. This is set to ${jboss.bind.address} and as such I would expect it to get my IP address as its value, based on my system properties MBean setup. [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Re: context.lookup takes 7+ _seconds_ to return over LAN on
OK, part of my problem seems to be that JBoss sends, to the client, a URL like http://hostname:8083/ and in the log, this appears as: Using RMI Server codebase: http://hostname:8083 It seems to be happening during the JNDI handshaking process (presumably JBoss is telling the client where to go for RMI calls) Why this is a problem is that "hostname" is not in DNS (and, for my case, cannot ever be). Furthermore, the machine in question must be named "hostname" (don't ask). I am not sure where it gets this from, so I created a SystemPropertiesService MBean in jboss-service.xml (xml below) to set the property jboss.bind.address to be my ip address. This did not have any effect on the RMI Server codebase, nor my problem. The change DID have an effect, as anywhere in the logfile that '0.0.0.0' showed up, my ip address now shows up; just not for the RMI Server codebase (or what is getting sent to the client). I figure as long as JBoss is sending over an invalid hostname (invalid to the client that is), then all bets are off regarding my problem. The linux vs. windows things is coincidental, because our linux boxes have the servername in question in their /etc/hosts, whereas windows boxes do not. So, how can I control the hostname that the RMI server codebase uses without modifying the network configuration of my machine? I tested the fix with a single message in the transaction, and access was denied as expected for users without authorization. Thank you sir! I noticed two minor issues with the fix though. 1) It appears that Nukes interpreted the array index [ i ] as an italics style in the code that adds the destination names to the Set. 2) There is a redundant authorization check for transactions with > 1 message. I believe the final code should be (see bold-faced lines for corrections): |// Check that a transaction request is authorized to send the messages |public void transact(ConnectionToken dc, TransactionRequest t) throws JMSException |{ | if (t.messages != null) | { | // Optimization for common case | if (t.messages.length == 1) | { | String dest = ((SpyDestination) t.messages[0].getJMSDestination()).getName(); | if (authorizeWrite(dc, dest) == false) |throw new JMSSecurityException("Connection not authorized to addMessages to destination: " + dest); | } | else if (t.messages.length > 0) | { | HashSet destinations = new HashSet(); | for (int i = 0; i < t.messages.length; ++i) | destinations.add(((SpyDestination) t.messages[ i ].getJMSDestination()).getName()); | | for (Iterator i = destinations.iterator(); i.hasNext();) | { |String destinationName = (String) i.next(); | if (authorizeWrite(dc, destinationName) == false) | throw new JMSSecurityException("Connection not authorized to addMessages to destination: " + destinationName); | } | } | } | super.transact(dc, t); |} | View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3837103#3837103 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3837103 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: Oracle 10g Get certified on the hottest thing ever to hit the market... [JBoss-user] [O'Reilly JBoss 3.0 Workbook] - Re: remote clients
Depending on what you need in your client, different jars in the /client directory will be applicable. For brevity, we tend to simply use jbossall-client.jar but there are bits and pieces you may need in other jars. One bit/piece in particular we always use is the LoginInitialContextFactory (a convenience class to make a secure JNDI connection) which is in /server/default/lib/jbosssx.jar. With respect to packaging and distributing remote clients, I assume you mean Java based (Swing or AWT) rich clients. We have found that Java WebStart: (http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart) is an excellent resource for doing this. There are also a great resources for Java WebStart at the Vamp HQ site (http://www.vamphq.com), expecially their Unofficial Java Web Start/JNLP FAQ (http://www.vamphq.com/jwsfaq.html ). [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Re: Extreme Beginner Question
Competitor XYZ may be running, say, a web reservation system on JBoss (just a guess!). Integrating their backend system to a web front end by putting a JBoss application server in between. They may want to handle the customer registration, store that information, manage user sessions, run availability queries on customer request, periodically send news letters and offerings to the customer, track points and bonuses, profile customers etc., all securely and within transactional work flows, using standardized APIs. JBoss (J2EE) allows you to handle all this within the same platform umbrella rather than duct tape many different technologies together in an ad hoc way to achieve the same. That's one example. [JBoss-user] [O'Reilly JBoss 3.0 Workbook] - remote clients
I have seen a few postings on running clients remotely. It sounds like people are installing most of the server environment on the client machine just to run a client. What needs to be installed on a client machine to run a remote client? I realize it depends on the client. Let's take ex04_1 as a simple example. In this example the client simply accesses an entity bean with CabinRemote and CabinHomeRemote interfaces. It uses JNDI to lookup the remote context. Are there tools for packaging and delivering clients? Is there a reference that describes this that someone can point me to. Thank you. Try adding TRACE logging for org.jnp (this is the naming category), it might show something useful. You should also look at installing some packet sniffers/network monitoring so you can see which network requests are taking time. I still think a host lookup timeout is the most likely cause. Try doing the initial stage of the lookup yourself: telnet server-ip 1099 Have you been through the FAQs? e.g. /etc/hosts Like I've said many times before, these forums are NOT network support forums. My code: InitialContext ic = new InitialContext(); DataSource ds = (DataSource) ic.lookup("jdbc/eurDS"); dbConnection = ds.getConnection(); when I do the lookup I get a Naming Exception telling that jdc is not bound. [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - XDoclet, value-object and not-null FK
Hello, I'm using XDoclet to generate my value objects, and I'm having trouble with the compose tags. The scenario is as follows: I have a Country entity bean, and a State entity bean. A Country can have many states. In the DB, I have a foreign key on the states table, and the foreign key is setted up as not-null (required by the DB team). On the Country class, I'm using tags such as: @ejb.value-object compose = "test.ejb.StateValue" compose-name = "StateValue" When I generate the CMP classes, I get a bunch of methods, such as addState(StateValue v). I would really like to use the addState method, however that method creates a state, and only after it, it adds it to the states collection on my country bean. This causes the not-null FK to throw an exception. Is there any workaround for this? I'd really like to keep using the generated code from XDoclet, and I cannot give up on the not-null FK for now. It is all restricted content. The whole website contains confidential information: Restricted Declarative security tests /restricted/* HEAD GET POST PUT DELETE role1 no description GUARANTEED It looks like it has something to do with datasource JNDI binding, as if the first datasource is the only one to get a user. It does login correctly, but after that the page just shows the elements that are not user-dependent. For example, I have a menu. I have struts in conjunction with XML/XSL setup. So the controller struts processor executes by passing the request form (action form) to a class which retrieves XML from businessobjects. So the menu page loads by getting user, and depending on the user giving back xml: if (_user.shouldChangePassword()) { | buffer | .append("\n") | .append(" \n") | .append(" login\n") | .append(" true\n") | .append(" menu1\n") | .append(" move('userdata.do');\n") | .append(" ") | .append("Inloggegevens") | .append("\n") | .append(" move('userdata.do');\n") | .append(" \n") | .append("\n") | .append("\n"); | } else { etc. The menupage also has an xsl, and the action transforms the xml to html using this xsl. The page the is written to the response. In the case of jboss 3.07, alls well. In the case of 3.2.x, first realm to login is well, even multiple users on that realm get their own menus perfectly. However, loggin in to a second realm (different customer) the menu just shows the stuff that is not user-dependent. All is https... The problem, as the error suggests, is in your ejb-jar.xml file. The ejb spec states :- The abstract-schema-name must be a valid Java identifier and must be unique within the ejb-jar file. The error is stating that one of your abstract-schema-name elements is not a valid Java identifier. This still is not telling me much. Why should the principal not be null, is there a security-constraint enforcing this? If there is not, you have to track the user in the session as there is no definition of how a principal propagates from secured to unsecured content. The only time request.getUserPrinicipal is guarenteed to return non-null is on secured content. For a atart, modifying the run.sh script is not the best way to do it. Any time u update to a new version of jboss this file will be overwritten and you will have to remember to update it again.
